From your link:
"The Nation News in Barbados reported Saturday, July 6, that the crew of a French naval ship spotted a jet ski floating in the sea off the southern coast of Guadaloupe, approximately 250 miles northwest of Barbados. The ship notified the Barbados and Guadaloupe coast guards of the discovery.

The jet ski is reported to have the same registration number as the jet ski, described in media reports as a blue 2016 Yamaha jet ski, that Suarez and Devil had rented at Holetown Beach on June 24. The jet ski was recovered and handed over to authorities in Guadaloupe for further examination Saturday."

Wow! 250 miles away! Obviously ( pretty much) that hey fell or maybe were thrown off. Still, they had life vests so why were they not found? Sad.

Also, they could've had engine trouble, or went out too far and encountered rougher water, or got caught in a sudden storm.

Somehow they became separated from the jet ski. But searching started within the hour and with life vests one would hope and believe they would have been found. Possibly they were too far out by that time. Imo.

This is so sad. I wonder if there are any diagnostics on a jet ski that can help them solve the mystery.

I used to live in the Florida Keys, and have probably 5,000 miles on the sea. What I learned from the salty old captains is that the sharks are the last ones to bite - when you're in the ocean it's the small fish that come first; they start biting you, pecking off pieces of your skin. As you begin to bleed, you'll be attracting larger fish that begin to rip significant amounts of your skin off (and fingers, toes, hands, etc). Finally, your profuse bleeding attracts the sharks - but they're not really interested in eating people, because we don't taste that good. Sharks like sushi. Our diets are terrible, we take medications etc all of which make us taste gross to sharks. So, they take a bite into us, and then spit it out. Usually they tear arteries and veins, so you bleed to death.

Wow. This sounds like one of the worst ways to go. The thought of then out there, current pulls the water craft away and they just wait. :/ I hope their stranded on a sand bar or a small island.

Following.
Like the "Open Water" movie -- or did they meet with foul play ?
Either way.... what a horror for their families. :(
Suarez has two children from a previous relationship.

Been to Barbados. The west side, where they departed is the heavy tourist side. Beautiful beachs, beautiful slowly sloped land, gorgeous vegetation. But the west side is extremely rocky and you are told that by everyone. Barbados appears big on a map but it is a small island you can cover easily in a week or two of vacation. Lots of sugar cane fields in the center. Police did not carry weapons when I was there and there was a huge penalty to having a gun when I was there. I felt very safe there. Smiling police. The one city where the ports are on the south side was very busy and that was the place that you were warned about, typical busy city. I found it very nice there too. I can think of two or three possible scenarios. You rent the jet ski and they start halfway up the west side. You head north and easily have enough gas to check out the other side of the island. It is just beautiful but so dangerous. Huge rocky ledges where you could easily get caught in heavy waves. Or possibly, you go out too far on the west side and run out of gas and have to drift. But also worrisome is the heavy large ship traffic on the calm western side. All night I would watch SO many huge ships, cruise ships, trawlers, yachts, freighters, with their beautiful lights. All night traffic. Just getting caught in their wake would be tough on a jet ski. And the ocean is very dark if you are drifting on a jet ski. I just feel it was an accident and not foul play at all. Very, very sad.

If anyone goes on vacation and rents a jet ski and a guide is not offered, get one. These places look beautiful but they are not your known place.

I jet-skied once in Grand Cayman. I was on a snorkel tour with tour guides. Luckily I had the guides with me because it was very difficult for me to hoist my body up onto the jet ski once we were done snorkeling. We were in about 10 feet of water and I just couldn't pull myself back up on it. I'm thinking that these two may have fallen off the jet ski and tried to get back up and were unable to? Just a thought, since I never jet-skied before and maybe they were also not experienced. Prayers to the families, such a sad story.

One thing for sure, Barbados is a paradise. Flowers of all colors and sizes. Kind people. Gorgeous beaches. Relaxing environment. Lovely service. All kinds and varieties of birds. Beautiful sunsets, that deep blue with palm trees swaying. The meals are all local vegetables and fish. At least they had a beautiful spot of paradise.

So sad!
After such a long time missing, the chance of them returning unharmed seems slight. Could have been an accident... or is there any reason someone would intentionally harm them? Would they have valuables with them like a wallet, cell phone, jewelry?

I doubt if anyone would bring those items with them in the ocean

I think you could be right and this was what happened. We own 2 jet skis and when I was thin I had a hard time pulling myself up on them in the middle of the lake. (I won't ride them since I gained weight because I can just hear the laughter as I pass by, being towed in behind the ski.)

Families have started a fund page to help with expenses and plan to hire a private investigator.

The Nation News reported Mottley met last week with the families of the couple and said they could return to the island at the government's expense over the next year while the case remained open.
