Belize - Faye Lin Cannon, 13, brutally slain, San Pedro, 3 July 2017 *American parents arrested*

We don't really know what DC is like as a father. So I don't know what to hope for.
Hat's off to him though to come to Belize for his daughters. That's a good sign.

I went to look for video/news and found this. https://www.facebook.com/SanPedroSun/videos/vb.246187688749182/1605528766148394/?type=2&theater

That's not the oldest daughter with Anke, is it?? The female in the white pants is clearly with her, but I couldn't see clear enough when her face was in the picture. I sure hope it's not her, for several (obvious I'm sure) reasons...

Oh my gosh. The people there are not 'appreciating' Anke's presence there!

[h=1]Anke Doehm met by angry residents[/h]
When Anke left the island, some angry residents also waited for her at the Water Taxi terminal in Belize City. She arrived in Belize City with several suitcases.

Activist, Jose Espat questioned Anke and while she tried to avoid him. When asked why she didn’t report it to the police, she replied saying that she did call the police.

Richard “Dickie” Bradley, Attorney for David Doehm

“The arguments to support that ground of objection were not forthcoming. In the affidavit of the police officer which went to something like twenty-eight or twenty-nine paragraphs, was a chronology of him being called by the very accused persons to say that the child appears to be very sick and is not breathing; and so they are just recounting that ‘we went to the house; we met the family members, we saw the child on the bed, she was not breathing; we did this, we called the doctor, we then did that, we did this, we did that…gone on and on for paragraphs but did not tackle the issue that is the sole ground of objection, meaning will these people cut out the moment they get, or as soon as they get an opportunity to leave the country? There was nothing to substantiate that. You may have heard our learned friend, the Crown Counsel, say that Mr. Doehm was working at one of the local airlines and had lost his job; when we were shown the letter, it was a panicked decision to respond by saying, ‘Oh! We don’t really want you working here when those kinds of allegations are flying around your head;’ but he was working for the past five years that he stayed in this country. Both parents are permanent residents; their passports has in that they are permanent residents of our country, they had in fact started the process to apply for citizenship. So the ground that they are flight risks was not enough to convince a judge in the Supreme Court to lock them up until 2018 or 2019.”
Copies of the order are to be served on the Chief Magistrate and the U.S. Embassy in Belmopan; the latter are also to take custody of the couple’s U.S. passports until the case is concluded. The Doehms are to report to the Queen Street Police Station between seven-thirty a.m. and four p.m. on Mondays beginning on July thirty-first until the conclusion of the case and are to attend all hearings beginning on August twenty-fourth until the case concludes. They are barred from leaving the country and are not to interfere with any prosecution witnesses.

So what did the police officers do? Perform CPR? :waitasec:

An interesting video on FB by a local ( Jose Luis Uc Espat) intimated inside info and said he was being careful what he said but that there are strong controlling men and Anke told him she "did call the police-they did nothing".Lots of info on his page. Including a book he found called Ruby Moon that parallels what happened.

Anyone else have issues posting on here? Freezes, typing this took 15 mins-frustrating.

The comments from certain people in the videos we are watching of AD"s quick return to the island are just self serving and have nothing to do with concern or welfare of the three young girls . The sorrow and sadness I have for those girls is just indescribable . But listening and watching the behavior of certain people following AD as she leaves the island is sickening and ,IMO, does nothing to help anyone except somehow making themselves feel good . There are some with personal grudges due to business "competition" and nothing to do with the children, are now the loudest of all and it's uncivilized and egocentric.
My dismay and disapproval with the mob mentality ,by no means , indicates any lessening of the heartache and tragedy of the death of Faye , nor wanting justice served .
I would also love to know how many times D.C. visited his daughters . I know of once a few years back for a couple of days . If he had weekend visitations, as his legal council stated in an interview, thus making it difficult for him to visit , then as the (concerned?) father who has agreed to this type of visitation schedule when his daughters move to belize, I can't understand why he would do this. How concerned is that?

Publishing license plates , calling for boycotting taxi drivers etc is helping how?

sorry; can't seem to edit. Anke would NOT have ever talked to Espat. There may very well be agendas (people running for political office in a country as you see run on emotion--and cheap payoffs for votes like BBQs with beer; I am not making that up) of those "speaking up for justice for Faye Lin," many are not there for altruistic reasons but many are there too feeding off the drama. As Saatchi and Snoopster say, the charges have been drastically reduced. No mystery as to why DD is not out on bail. He doesn't have the money.

Everything Mccaar says. Everything. Let the courts do their job. Nothing but rumours and whipped mob mentality and hysteria at present; but remember many of those do have an agenda; it's a simple dog eat dog country. If you want to rely on Belizean news sources I recommend you read many other crime articles. Sloppy reporting at best. They will refer to sexual assault of an underage person as illegal carnal knowledge!

They're protesting the bail. I have the same feelings. This couple will get off.

Hello everyone! Just joining here. IMO the tensions are running so high on this case because of the notoriously shoddy police work and the low rate of conviction in Belize. I'm not sure if Mr Espat has a political agenda or not but I surely respect his loyalty to bringing justice. Belize has something like a 7%conviction rate (that may be up or down a few points, can't remember). These points are a small part of why the tension is so high in this case IMO. Such a travesty. I truly hope that we see just a smidgen of justice for Faye because I have seen first hand of how poorly the judiciary system is in this country.

I have no idea what this guy is trying to say regarding what AD supposedly said about the police but is this the first inkling that she's completely throwing her husband under the bus regarding this? She could bail him out if she wanted and it appears that she is choosing not to?

And what's this about the Mayor's sister being her landlord and the person she is seen with who is helping her to gather her stuff? So this person is not from her attorney's office?

MOO

yes, the Doehms IMO are simply the lightening rod for frustration at the terribly low conviction rate and also all the terrible societal problems Belize has. Might pay to go on Espat's page. OMG so preposterous it's funny. Revolution, Barrow (Belizean PM) bad, Jesus is on my side, some crazy thing about an obscure work called Ruby Moon that I can't even follow and I'm an Eng. major grad, we are sick of politicians lining their pockets, Jesus is with my party.

A few people have noted that the charges against the Doehms have been drastically reduced. It may not play into this forum's ethos to consider that a person may not be guilty of what they are charged with; that's why most countries have a legal system so that evidence is weighed--not giving the biggest voice the say on what a person's punishment should be even before evidence is weighed.

Not saying AT ALL that there is not responsibility on the Doehms for the death of Faye Lin; that's a given IMO. But honestly the conclusions jumped to; Belize is not the US! Not, not, not!

BTW I have communicated with one of the parties charged. This does not mean I don't believe there is culpability in Faye Lin's death. <modsnip>

Maybe there could be outrage at a banana republic's total disregard for the legal process? For letting known criminals go for bribes (the Doehms BTW do not have the money for bribes) or because they're related to a cop on SP? It really is that simple in Belize. It is not the US! Giving this Espat guy the time of day; what can I say? he is using this for attention for a platform to run; it's a simple country; <modsnip>

Just to play devil's advocate for a moment,but ...

If AD was found guilty the anger expressed might be one thing, but what if AD is not found guilty and is perhaps herself a victim?
Wondering if people yelling, swearing and stalking, are otherwise gentle, patient and non-violent with their own families?
complete speculation, imo.

The Doehms are widely disliked right now, and as we told you, they have moved out of San Pedro. That's what their attorneys told the court when the judge wanted to find out which police station it would be most convenient for them to report to, as part of their bail conditions.

They've relocated to Belize City, and after this weekend, it appears that leaving the island, was a good decision. That's because Anke Doehm went back to the island, and as soon as she hopped off the boat on Saturday afternoon, she was harassed by residents throwing insults and accusations at her. It was recorded by our colleagues at Ambergris Today, and for legal reasons, we've edited the the video. Here's how they made sure to show her that she is not welcomed there:
Residents
"You are a monster, we don't want you here. Get out of this island. People like you don't deserve to be in this world. Get out of here you @#!@#..... disappear... people like you don't deserve to be in this world."
"You are supposed to rot in hell. You are an evil person."

I still laugh at the statement early on that Grande Caribe would certainly have a doctor on sight. no, there would be NO place in Belize that'd have a dr. on sight and Gr. Caribe is about the most high end for tourists. Belize is not the US. Leave those thoughts behind. But there is a clinic in SP. many places do not have even a clinic.

dotr; IMO you hit the nail on the head

  • #260
dotr; Belize has a very high rate of domestic abuse, sex traficcing, rape, incest; those people yelling have all been victims or are simply running for office; it's the only way other than drug running to get rich. Unless you have the money to start a tourist business and most won't. I believe the Dohms are responsible for Faye Lin's death. I don't believe they murdered her. My opinion.
