“Jasmine is being detained at the Belize border while trying to enter Mexico with documents provided to her by the Canadian Embassy, they are emergency travel documents because Belize won’t release her passport,” a source with knowledge of the situation told the Sun.

“That’s even though she paid the fine in full. And so the Canadian government gave her an emergency travel document.”

The source said border officials got on the phone with immigration officials who “verified everything” and “sent additional documentation.”

On Wednesday morning, Jasmine Hartin was still locked away in the cells in Corozal on the coast of Belize.

For those of you keeping score, Corozal is the speck on the map where Keswick realtor Francesca Matus and her American boyfriend were strangled to death in a sugar cane field in 2017.

Matus, also a mother of two, was slated to fly home the next morning.

The double murder remains unsolved. Like a lot of others in Belize.

Take from that what you will.''

''Cops in Belize have now sprung Canadian socialite Jasmine Hartin after admitting she hadn’t broken any laws as she attempted to cross into Mexico.''

After Hartin paid the $37,000 fine via her lawyer, Belizean officials declared there were “discrepancies.” Of course, Hartin has been engaged in a bitter custody battle with her former common-law husband, Andrew Ashcroft.

He is the son of the richest man in Belize, Michael Ashcroft, a Tory member of the House of Lords in London.

Even after paying her fine, a court official refused to return Hartin’s Canadian passport. As a result, the embassy had to issue emergency travel documents so she could cross into Mexico.''

''But Belize border guards instead jailed Hartin in a sweaty cell where she was forced to strip to her underwear to keep cool.''

Updates to the saga:

Brad Hunter seems sympathetic to JH's predicament: pleading guilty to manslaughter, cocaine possession charges, community service work, etc.

Personally, I would think JH would be insane to return to Belize for her community service work or the cocaine trial. She's already got a taste of Belize's justice system. Whether you believe her or not regarding her exact role in Jemmott's death, whether you sympathize with the deceased's family with wanting compensation for his death, the incompetence of the justice system in Belize would keep me away. Canada does not have an extradition treaty with Belize. Her ex lives in Turks and Caicos now with his children, whom he has legal custody of. Apparently, he has gifted JH with a 10% stake in his new business venture there.

By the way, Brad Hunter doesn't seem to understand the usage of the mob-related 'large" slang when related to $$. Fifteen large means the same as fifteen grand. $15000 large is redundant.

''The Kingston native could be forgiven if a hair was out of place after the ordeal she endured in Belize for the past three years. Now, a new podcast called White Devil takes a deep dive into the investigation.

In an exclusive interview with the Toronto Sun, Hartin explains that her odyssey through the country’s legal system seems unending. She has a gag order regarding any discussion of her children, who were whisked out of the country by her ex-husband.''

Pregnancy Delays Jasmine Hartin’s Court Case AgainJasmine Hartin’s long-running court case has been delayed again, this time, because she’s pregnant. Her attorney, Arthur Saldivar, told the court she’s dealing with health issues and can’t travel. The case, which began in San Pedro in 2021 and was later moved to Belize City, involves drug and assault charges. Saldivar is challenging the delay, arguing Hartin’s constitutional right to a timely trial has been violated. He’s filed a “case stated” application to take the matter to the High Court. The magistrate has given the prosecution until September fifteenth to respond, with the next hearing set for October first.'
