I've kind of come in on this story at a late date. Haven't read everything that has been posted about BK. But there is something I'd like to offer - and of course it's JMO

Reasons no one has come forward and identified BK:
Quite possible he came from parents where neither of them had siblings - no real extended family, parents may possibly be dead or in a nursing home suffering from alzheimers/dementia. (Which the giving of DNA could come into play here - why not give DNA if he knows that it's not going to link him to anyone - it may link him to a "family group" through genealogy - but it still wouldn't give anyone a clear picture of who he is.)

It's also possible that his parents moved around from place to place and he developed no lasting ties with anyone.

Just because he seems intelligent - he may not have received all of his intelligence through school. Maybe he was a bookworm...spent a lot of time in libraries... Then there are people who just have that natural ability of being intelligent and they are able to soak up knowledge.

Since no one has come forward to identify him - it is quite possible that his appearance has changed so much since his younger days that no one does recognize him. (O/T: at a HS reunion a couple years ago I at a table with a guy that I didn't even realize I went to school with him...The change was amazing. Even when someone told me who he was I couldn't believe it - this guy had absolutely none of the physical traits he had when we graduated).

Other reasons for no one coming forward: Not everyone knows about BK - even despite media coverage. Not everyone watches Dr. Phil, or CNN or any other media outlet that may have covered his story.

I live in VA and I will guarantee that I can ask every one I know if they have heard about BK's story and 98% of them will say, "who?" I can say with 100% certainty, if I had not been a member here at WS I would have no idea about BK - because I can assure you I have personally seen nothing about him in the media.

Things started to unravel for Benjaman Kyle last fall when believe09 began the
fresh start thread.
The idea: to go back and verify / vet every part of his story.
What was based on fact and evidence and what was just 'out there.'

Some of us have had doubts for quite a long time. I kept thinking and occasionally posting that something felt 'off.'

And then when verifying the 'facts' started to bring out the details
of what really happened or in this case, what did not happen at
the Burger King dumpster, 8/31/2004,
it began to fall together.

There is not a word about his situation until 2007.
2007 is the year the Savannah news article appeared.
It is the year WS started sleuthing his case.

Interesting. I stepped back from this case ages ago because of something odd NB said or did. I don't even remember what it was now, but it caused me to step back.

Question for you. Do you know if anyone ever went to the homeless camp and did a pic ID or something with BK?

There was no reason to open up an investigative report because there was no crime. RHPD was not even told that BK was claiming amnesia until 2007 when NB called the dept accusing them of dropping the ball on the case. As far as they knew, he was treated and released. St Jos never contacted them for any follow up.

Either way, they've got the material for a good story, whether it be mystery or fraud. A good filmmaker can make lemon aide with pretty much any raw footage. Ever see "Lost in LaMancha"?

It is up to you to decide what circumstances might lead to someone falling asleep naked in a dumpster covered with scabies, waking to find the police staring at you and no longer knowing who you were or where you came from. For almost 5 years. Maybe he has Alzheimers?

I think it's unlikely to have been the cause of the reported amnesia. Alzheimer's disease rarely if ever starts with someone forgetting who they are. It starts with difficulties in learning new things and as the disease progresses the patient can forget the last ten, twenty, forty years and gets various other cognitive difficulties. But old information is retained better than new information is learned, especially things that have been learned so thoroughly in early life such as your name. The patients may eventually become unable to tell you their name or anything else about them but at that point they're pretty far along in the course of the disease and it's already been obvious that they're severely demented for a while. I didn't see it myself but I understand that he is thought to be intelligent and well spoken and was able to present his story coherently on Dr. Phil. When was that show taped? I thought it was several years after his being found but I'm not sure. Anyway, Alzheimer's disease is a progressive condition and if he was far enough gone to have forgotten his identity due to Alzheimer's disease in 2004 it would be very unlikely that he'd be functional enough to tell his story to a talk show host several years later.

Thank you for posting on this thread.

My heartfelt thanks to all the great sleuthers out there who are helping me help everyone else understand why we closed this forum.

As was said before I knew there would be people that wouldn't like what I was going to say and would disagree with my actions.

We will be going around and around on this thread if I keep it open.

For now, I am going to close it and ask anyone with any doubts to take the time and read all the info in this forums. Especially start with Believe09's thread called, "Starting From Scratch"

I was replying as the thread closed and my post wouldn't go through.

I would love to hear from BK and of course my curiousity will still linger about "Who is BK?" If he knows or ever finds out, I pray he is able to make peace with whoever he is or what his life has been.

Can't say I worked as hard as many here did, can't say I didn't have some reservations about the story at different times.

I just want to say "thanks" to so many of you who worked hard on this case and others. A hearty "thanks" to Tricia for supporting the efforts on this case and all the others. (A special thanks to Anna's mom for her assistance to Cubby, as Cubby helps so many with her time.)

One good thing I can see that was accomplished here is that many, many missing men's profiles were looked at and researched. It's my prayer that while BK's story didn't reach the conclusion we'd hoped for, there are many other cases that were looked at with new eyes and possibly new hope.

Some time ago, my computer crashed as a result of getting a virus while researching Benjamans case. My computer hung on for sometime until it finally pooped. Was it the direct fault of Mr. Kyle, no..... but it was the direct result of sleuthing his case, believing he was a victim of some sort who needed our help.

I don't understand why you never took my offer to help you fix what was wrong.. I do this; build computers & fix them.
Hopefully you got your files off of the old one and donated it to a group who will give it to a needy person.

Can this post stay opened a little longer please? I lost a post or 2 trying to submit when it was locked and will need time to rebuild it. Had we been able to click subscribe to this post when Tricia made it, I would have know it was open yesterday & am really frustrated with WS right now that here I spent more time reading today to have it locked while I was replying.

Giving us one day to let out how we feel is not enough time when we've worked so hard. I've been extremely upset since the forum was locked; to know all of my time was spent doing stuff & now I can't even vent or have my say.

I am still very sadden about this. I truely feel in my heart Mr. Kyle doesn't know who he is. To me, the finding of BK doe on Aug. 31, 2004 were never clear. I didn't come on here with the intent of finding out what happened, my intent is to help find who he is.

I've come to like BK in the time I read about his case & I wish he would come & post so people understand.

I wish "Mr Kyle" well. I don't know how I feel because I am not privy to documents others here have seen or information they've gotten directly. I've always wanted to buy the Dr Phil episode but never did. In my heart, I think he may have had amnesia in the beginning but I don't understand why misinformation was out there. What does not make sense to me is what does he have to gain? Is there a big pot of money somewhere that is more then what he could make working? I want to slap myself in the head. I just don't get it. I guess seeing what Colleen is going to do next is what I'm wondering.

I found something else to give my time to.. what I was going to do electronically for BK; I found something else to do that with & started it 2 days ago. It has nothing to do with missing people as I think I'm soured on this for right now.

I've been debating unsubscribing from posts here and just getting away from here.
So, if you don't see me around you know why. I'm just too upset & have simmered since the forum was locked.

What about him being hypnotized? I haven't seen anyone address that. He was hypnotized and asked very pointed questions about his identity. Why wouldn't it have come out then if he was lying?

All of it. Although I respect others opinion that he is a liar and a fraud, I am not yet ready to label him as such. It doesn't mean I haven't read about the case, it means I have not come to the same conclusion as others.

Wow-Believe, that is one thing I had no idea on---I thought RHPD knew from the beginning that he "supposedly" had amnesia. I could not figure out why they had such a hands off approach with his amnesia. It all makes sense now...sort of. So, I guess my question would be---when he was in the hospital in the beginning, when he had his cataract surgery etc., did the hospital think he had amnesia, and if so, why did they not contact RHPD for assistance? Or was the amnesia thing not even a factor at ALL until 2007? Why then I wonder...?

I do not understand your comment about stepping away a few days ago. Do you have information about BK's case other than was revealed in the RHPD documents? Can you elaborate? I think we are all trying to make sense of all this, and I do not want you to be upset with WS. Thank you!

Same here... I've been following this case for months and read everything there is to read, and to me it isn't as settled as many here have made it seem. While it is obvious that BK & NB haven't been completely honest, I see no reason to call the ENTIRE case a fraud. It can be easy to draw conclusions when one part of the story doesn't check out, but I think it's important to remain completely objective when there is still so much we do not know. For this reason, I feel that it was very harsh for Tricia to call BK a "lying " on her twitter account and completely close down this forum.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful, after all it was Tricia who so thoughtfully created this whole forum and made this all possible.... but I see no reason to close everything down and stop, when now more than ever so much remains unclear. I know that whatever happens, I will continue to follow this case until the whole truth comes out.

If you check out Kent's post, he was treated at ST Jos for his scabies and tested for his stated amnesia. The amnesia was of unknown origin, had no physical cause, was not trauma related because there was no trauma, so they transferred him to a psychiatric hospital. There was no reason to involve the police because of whatever determination the medical folks made concerning the origin of his statements....RHPD called EMS for a scabies covered vagrant who would not identify himself to them. I dont know what hospital policy is regarding an unidentified living adult-I dont know if they believed he knew who he was or if he had a mental health issues-it must have been something along those lines because they sent him to a psych hospital.

Come to think of it, NB is a psychiatric nurse...I wonder when she really met BK?
