I'm inclined to think you could be on to something with the idea of using a home equity loan for the vx. When I was car shopping, we looked into getting a home equity loan or line of credit for the car, as the interest rate was much lower.

I have a friend who was married to a guy who is bi-polar. During his manic phases, he would write checks like they had the money in the account, and also get loans (like from those cheesy loan companies) for $5k or $10k and he would forge my friend's signature on them. She found out about it when it was too late & had already screwed up her credit.

I believe that raven could have certainly gotten credit without Janet knowing.

True, except the Capital One and Discovers all have different mailing addresses which kinda through me off.
But changes in his mailing address could be why there are five separate listings of the account. If he had stayed at the same address the entire time he had the account, there would probably have been only one listing, I'd think. But each time he updated his information, it was re-reported to the credit bureau with the updated information. That's a guess on my part.

Whatever the situation, I do believe that you're right - Raven could indeed have taken that home equity loan to buy the VX.

I don't think he could have used a home equity loan to buy that VX. If I remember correctly the home he owned was in Smithfield, VA. If you read his blog he mentions a place Fredericksburg Academy. I looked this up and it is indeed near Fredericksburg, VA. He must have bought that car when living in Fredericksburg, VA. Looking over Raven's past history he lived in Fredericksburg up to a year before living in Smithfiled. I am thinking instead that Jim or Karen signed for that car and that is why it is not listed in the bankruptcy items.

True, I know people that took out home equity loans, and they had to write what the loan was going to be used for, but it's not monitored, you just have to state what it is going to be used for, so I think you are right on that.

Thanks for responding, I hope that what I was attempting to state makes some sense. It is to me now, moreso, considering the price of the VX.

It may have been easy for the Rave to convince Janet of the need for a "Home Equity" loan.

He problably did not state the real price of the VX, got a home equity loan, in the guise of making some improvements to the home, and paying off credit cards, etc.

If you look at all the loans, there are several capital one and discover cards that have a zero balance, but he could have gotten a new capital one and had the cards consolidated and paid off the balances and put on one card, considering there was like 5 capital one cards, and 4 or 5 discovery cards with only one of each with balances.

I know that he was controlling and probably controlled the money and paying of the bills, so Janet may not have known how much he owed to everyone and he quite possibly lied about how much he paid for the VX and how much home equity loan he took out.
..i've skimmed the posts, so maybe missed something--------but to take out a "home equity" loan, do you not need to HAVE equity in your home against the loan ? i thought raven and janet were renting in NC........and surely couldn't have built up any equity previously to off-set such a loan?

Ahhh, good catch. So Raven could NOT have used a home equity loan to buy it because he bought the VX within one year PRIOR TO owning that house.

I'm looking for the story of Raven's original purchase of the VX. While I haven't found it yet, reading this thread reminds me all over again just how desperate Raven was to keep the VX. It seems like it really pained him to have to think about the possibility of not just losing the VX but losing all of the attention he felt he was getting at that site.
..maybe this one ?

Who You Talkin' Bout Willis?
I've been driving my VX since 2000. I first saw it at an Iron Man event back in 96-97? I was in high school then and that car became my dream car. I sat in it and thought it was the coolest thing ever. In 1999 I was driving by the usual Isuzu dealership when I spotted the VX in their showroom. I traded in my 1997 Blazer ZR2 SUV which had 33's, all chromed out and cherry red. At the time it was the hottest little SUV around. My wife was furious, but shortly fell in love with the VX. She still thinks of the VX as a horrible investment because of how much it has depreciated in value. I was a little disappointed too, but after thinking about it, VALUE IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER. After 60,000 miles, two trips out West, a dozen camping trips, and many miles along the East coast, I have decided to finally put a stop to the nonsense, I am in the process of lifting and detailing the VX to become my new offroad machine, and I'm selling my 92 Jeep Wrangler with 35's and Spring Over to the highest bidder... Away with Jeep and Hello VX. I am excited to take it on some adventures as everyone on this post has such good stories to tell!

So, sorry for the detailed story, anyway, I'm 23, married, and work for Hewlett-Packard. I do some consulting on the side and just started my own business, the website is called www.pocketPCguy.com and one day it will be up!!! I am somewhat of a guru when it comes to handhelds, go figure, I like toys! Look forward to working with all you and hopefully meeting you at a few rally's!

"THE RENEWED 1999 BLACK IRONMAN... My Baby!
Long awaited release of my new look! I get even more looks now, and I've only been sporting the new look for 24 hours. I stopped by an Isuzu dealership and they were paging everyone to come out and take a look (however, I am not a big fan of their mechanics, go figure) and I've had approval by a few girls who weren't sure if they liked it or not. I've still got some mechancil issues and some more buffing to do, but I think it will all be worth it.

The big Question is, do I want to take it wheelin' now? Sure I do, but I'm gonna have to be very careful!!! Check out the StinkFab bent links I've got tucked under the rear wheels... The clearance looks awesome now!!!!

Let me know what you think!"

OMG, who really cares???? He's so into himself, I can't stand it. "Long awaited release of my new look! I get even more looks now..." Sickening. Absolutely sickening.

YOUR WIFE RAVEN YOUR WIFE..REMEMBER HER, THE ONE THAT YOU MARRIED FOR ALL ETERNITY....YOU CARE WHAT A FEW GIRLS THINK? YOU ABSOLUTELY MORONIC IDIOTIC DISGUSTING MONSTER!

..what about the new balding look we saw raven sporting at his embezzlement trial --------do "the girls" like that look raven ?

..and speaking of the "new look on the VX"------------if it went missing, was stolen!---how hard would you look for it ? would you be hounding the police ? as much as you're hounding them to get results on your wife's murderer? ( oh never mind...you're not talking to them AT ALL in that regard....) after all, that was just your wife and unborn baby-------------not the VX.

Good point, Laurie...my guess is that he'd be screaming in the phone to have the authorities return his precious VX in one piece, however, he seems not to give a damn about the life of his murdered wife. Priorities? It's clear. raven and his property are much more important to him than the woman who pledged her life to him and who gave her undying, unconditional love for her child.
Nice, raven. You're quite a piece of work.
