Big storm in California?

Great links, Ranch. Thanks!

Just quite overcast; a few little spits down here, but nothing much at all. Had some wind overnight, judging by the leaves down in the back yard and kitchen area, but nothing too tremendous.

All critters and I are snug as bugs in rugs inside here...lovin' this weather. Just lovin' it. I wish I lived where it snowed, you know? How neat would that be...sitting here, cats and dogs, with a fire place and an adult hot chocolate...yeah, that would be delightful.

..."Pineapple Express" is one of my favorite movies. :)

I don't usually like slapstick, but the scene where James Franco tries to kick out the windshield "like they do in the movies" cracks me up every time I even think about it.

Head to Big Bear, you should get some good snow there!

Had to check on my Mom and Dad this morning - they're up in Humboldt County (yeah, yeah, yeah...bring on the Emerald Triangle jokes, haha)...

She said it's been wet and raining, but the wind hadn't been bad.

LOL, about 30 minutes later she emailed back and said "take back everything I said, it's pouring." They were hunkered down, had plenty of flashlights and batteries in case they lost power.

They had a new roof put on about 2 months ago, guess they'll find out if it has any leaks.

Not much rain here in Sacramento today but it's been windy. One of the creeks that's listed on the link I gave runs right behind my house. And we are in a flood zone. The Army Corp of Engineers isn't scheduled to begin work on this creek until 2014 so every winter we have a possibility of flooding. Mainly when we have a series of storms like this and a heavy thunderstorm right over where the drainage to my creek is.

This house has been here since 1964 and it has never flooded in the past. But we've had some close calls. The USACE plan for protecting my neighborhood is flood walls on top of the existing levies. Congress approved the funding years ago but with all things involving the government it take a long time before you see any results.

So when it rains hard, I look at the stream levels on the DWR site.

Still hasn't really started here yet...not too much rain at all. Again, only a few spits and tinkles, but no real rain.

And it's strangely warm for this time of the night - warmish and humid. I suspect this is the Pineapple Express I'm feeling. Just thought I'd mention it.

Ranch, hope you don't flood!

It's raining now!

It's been a constant misty sprinkle here in SoCal.

Finally, got some decent rain going on down here in So.CA. Nice, light rain all night, and continuing this morning.

And still quite warm...the house was 68 when I got up, and that's without the heater (the heater is set for 62 at 4 am). So it's still rather warm, considering the time of year.

I figure snow levels - at least this far south - will stay high...just rain. YAY.

Hope all up north are faring well. They say this will last through Sunday night, so we've still got a ways to go. But I'm pleased we're finally getting rain.

That was a great laugh-out-loud moment. I liked that movie until the last section...

Anyways, it poured yesterday and through last night and now has stopped. Yesterday I happened to glance at the creek that runs through town and it was raging! Of course all the usual "standing water" in the usual places.
I hope we get a day of now rain so things can dry out a little before the next storm. Also, I need time to clear the gutters and put up some lights.

I just saw on the news some reporting about flood levels and mudslides and some power outages. I don't think this is "worse" than it usually is, though, when a series of storms line up. It does happen this way, sometimes.

So No CA/So Oregon, check in when you can...

So OR here...

(I like this, it is like I am a news reporter)

Weather is pretty good. Just light "misty" type rain after moderate rain overnight. So far, it is no where as bad as initial predictions so I have to believe that everyone is happy.

Good luck to those in No. CA and So. OR!!!:please:

I am in SoCal... And have been enjoying the "tropical rain" these last few days... I even walked to my early a.m. meeting yesterday (instead of driving) to pretend we are having winter and Christmas weather! :giggle:

Saddleback Mountain is " right outside our front door".... But temps have not been cold enough to find snow up there... Highest elev.about 4,500 ft...

but I always love to see snow up there... DH, pup, and I like to drive the dirt roads up there when there is snow!:great:

Keep us posted, Western State Peeps!

Steady rain in N. CA tonight, but nowhere near a killer storm.

It has just been lightly sprinkling on and off all day.

Very frustrating because I have very expensive tickets [ luckily I didnt buy them] for the Tiger Woods tourney this weekend. They were good for either today OR tomorrow.

This morning we decided that we would skip today and use them tomorrow. But it barely rained today. So I bet it will POUR tomorrow. LOL

I have always wanted to quote myself!! But in this instance I have to disagree with what I said. I was wrong. It was a gnarly storm last night with howling wind (like the So Cal Santa Anas) and crazy heavy rain.

Because I am a dreamer, I started thinking about how safe and secure my modern little house is and how it must be keeping most of the noise out. Or course, that led me to think about what it would have been like, oh, 120 ish years ago- living in a house without fancy double paned windows and modern insulation, heat, etc. Boy, would that storm have been LOUD and scary!

Of course, I woke up and it is beautiful and sunny here. Sure, there are bogs were my lawn used to be- but hey, maybe that will stunt weed growth or something.

It poured heavy for about 3 hours this morning 7:30-10:30, now we have nothing but Blue Skies! So much for the killer storm!

Oh Katydid...

I hope you get to go to the golf tourney somehow!

I love golf... Am lower than amateur... But I have fun golfing.. And that is all that matters to me!

I enjoy watching TV golf tourneys on the weekends... Something I never thought I would say when I was younger. :D

Yeah... Speaking of what it was like 120 years or so ago...

DH and I camp in a little pop up tent trailer with no heat/AC... And no electricity since our battery was stolen years ago...

camping gives me a chance to get a small taste of what it must have been like in rain and wind...

But we have a choice when camping... We can not go.. Or leave.. If the weather gets too gnarly! :D
