Do we know if the family hired the PI or if MSNBC hired the PI or just whom or what?

He will not answer the question. Me thinks he is 'just here' maybe hoping somebody will pay him. (?)

Just conjecture, but I think HE has "clued" LE into a tip they didn't previously know. And he stayed in the car because he's not a cop - they may have wanted to talk to the grandparents in private. And then Stanton stayed in the car in case it was one of those "uh, they have no idea what you're talking about" situations. For further info if needed.

Just my thought. I can't imagine if they had the tip, and Stanton didn't, they'd be sharing it with him. They already said they wouldn't.

Or he just showed up at the LE station unannounced saying he was now working with the parents and wanting info. LE may have went to confront the parents and wanted him close until they determined just what his situation was. Finding that the parents did not hire him, but did intend to cooperate with him may have changed things.

In this article, it discusses how he manipulated his social contacts so he could climb up into Elaine's. This may be similar manipulative behavior, but now he will appear on television nightly instead of in Elaine's.

Would that really change things with LE? Aren't they just going to go about their duties in their normal way? Having this PI around might complicate LEs job but it doesn't really change it anymore than a neighbor lady deciding to help the family find out information does it?

In one of the articles, Capt Steve Young says that Stanton will not have any more privileges than any other ordinary citizen, and he included that Stanton would not have crime scene access.

I believe that's why Stanton stayed in the car.

IMO yes it would change things.

FWIW think of LE if they were suspicious of a family member. Now that family has been cooperative or at least trying to appear cooperative. Suddenly a PI shows up hired by the family? I would guess that it would change the whole tone of the relationship with LE.

Now if the PI shows up and the family denys hiring them, but says they intend to cooperate with the PI, then LE may feel they have to outline how it changes things with them, perhaps even warning them about how they could be being used. For instance if the family tells LE about something, then LE has been trying to keep it confidential. But if they tell it to the PI (hired by the media) and he is supposed to tell the LE, it is more likely to get out into the pubic arena via media. It might even have merited a warning to the effect that giving info to the PI instead of to LE could be considered obstruction of justice.

And yes I know that the grocery trip got into the public arena. But I don't think that was released by the LE. I think that perhaps there was talk at the store that she had been in just before Lisa went missing. Then with LE showing up and asking for the video there would be more talk. I think that got to media and media went to the store asking for more info and trying to determine what LE was looking for. And they found the video.

Well the trouble with that is that myself, and several others were in here last night, when we were waiting for the presser to start. We had the live broadcast up. Several heard the folks setting it up, who were unaware their mikes were open, say that the network was paying for it.

Now either they were mistaken or the network is paying for it. I believe the network is paying for it.

Possible, but I don't remember it being that definitive. I thought the comment was something like he is usually paid by the networks. I'm sure it can be replayed somewhere.... I don't think it's quite clear who hired him at this point. Whoever it is is a moron.

Hmm. He arrived at the grandparent's home with police in an unmarked car, and the cops went in and he stayed in the car.

Sounds like they're working cooperatively together.

Either that or they've already arrested him. (One can only hope.)

My family hired private investigators early on. We were desperate for any help to find my baby brother. They had never worked on a missing childs case and were just as baffled as LE. I don't remember exactly when into my brothers disappearance my Parents decided to get their own tip telephone line set up, but they did (i think w/in the first couple months). He does security analysis for NBC and ABC (probably already mentioned), so, IMO, he's there for them since the parents aren't talking and LE seems not to want to say anything to run back to the station with.

Someone mentioned Leonard Padilla - perfect example of someone who is less than accurate most of the time, but he leaks information and opinions like a sieve.

He's just an information gatherer for the networks, IMO. I hope he will at least try to be accurate. Even if he had a license in MO, he'd still suck at investigating.

I looked for that. LE will stay far away from him. Unless they decide to use him to decimate info in a deniable way. They could have a "source close to the investigation" mention something to him, then deny it later.

But he still may be able to get quite a bit of info. Family would be more likely to talk to him than to LE. So would the extended family. And the neighbors, ordinary citizens may like the idea of giving any little tidbits to him rather than going to LE. (all those little odd "I don't think it is related but.... statements."

So now is when we are more likely to hear about any past temper problems or outbursts from family members or any relationship problems if this guy is easy to talk to. Financial problems if this guy is good at his job.

It will change how open LE is with the family because now they know that anything they tell the family will end up on the evening infotainment shows but that doesn't affect LE it affects how LE communicates with the family. Having anything to do with this PI hurts the family not the LE as far as I can see.

One thing, rare or not, on this case we have an infant missing and a poster whose brother went missing as an infant. Both deny (and i believe them) that it wasn't a family abduction/murder.

Statistically the odds of walking into a case and hearing of another are astronomical but it happened. As do stranger abductions.
