Black Friday/Cyber Monday-How's it going in your neck of the woods?

I wouldn't go near a shopping area on Black Friday - Geez! I hate that term  - or any other day this weekend, for that matter. There is nothing that I need badly enough to risk my safety. DH and I do very little holiday gift-exchanging. I will bake goodies for those whom we remember at this time of year, and we will make our annual donation to the Michigan Humane Society .

Sort of off topic, but I was wondering what people think of the Amazon.com ad that shows "consumers' using their smart phones IN retail stores to take pictures of product bar codes, then going home and ordering that product from AMAZON rather then purchasing at the retail store. To me, that commercial is a slap in the face of small business.

Just a reminder: Today is Small Business Saturday. Please...if there is a small business you value that provides good customer service, shop there and stop by today!!!! Small brick and mortar businesses are the backbone of our economy and most are struggling to stay afloat.

I think that the people who do rush out to face the masses must get something out of it (besides the sales)...I am finding super bargains online and free shipping for the same stores having the midnight sales...

I too am one of those folks who cannot think of any item in the world I would line up to buy, unless it was food during rationing, perhaps...

I hadn't heard of it. Does Amazon do a price match? Because if I was already at the retail store, why wouldn't I just buy it then?

I hope people find this pepper spray lady soon. I hope they publicly release video of her.

Los Angeles police gave a fuller description Friday of the woman, who they say sprayed customers in an effort to gain a competitive edge during a Thanksgiving night Black Friday sale on video-game consoles. About 20 people were hit -- including children -- but no one was seriously hurt.
Police described the woman as a Latina, in her early to late 30s, wearing black pants and a black sweater during the late Thursday night assault. Los Angeles Police Department Det. Gus Villanueva said the woman stands about 5-foot-3 and weighs about 140 pounds.

I'm looking online for a laptop for my daughter who will be starting college in the fall. I've seen a couple of good deals for $299 + free shipping, but by the time I tried to buy it they were sold out.

Hubby thinks that there will be better deals on CyberMonday but I don't want to end up on a back-order list or having to buy a fancier model because all of the best deals are sold out.

I'm looking for a 15.6 inch with an Intel processor, 2.3ghz or better, 3-4g ram, for less than $350. Any leads or advice would be appreciated!

I'm going to start a cyber monday thread. Waiting on the mods to let me know to put it in Up to the minute or The Jury Room.

I went to Wal-Mart today. While it wasn't busy, no one was willing to do their jobs. Several items had signage that was WAY off on price (rang up HIGH), but no one would do price checks. No one wanted to open the changing rooms for us to try on clothes even though there was someone assigned there. It was absolutely ridiculous. I've NEVER left items at check-out before; I did today. I also sent an e-mail regarding my experience to headquarters letting them know I won't be going back. Times are hard here, I have no doubt many left after having spent much more than they intended. :(

Watching the local news the day before Thansgiving, molto report @ black friday, one news article @ Thanksgiving.
