Went missing Monday morning 9/22/25 and was spotted Tuesday 9/23/25 in New Orleans driving a black 2016 Mazda CX-5 Texas plates VSR9888. He seems to be seeking an adventure hike after reading the book into the wild and watching the videos. Please help! He is from San Antonio Texas Case # is SAPD25193161.

Found this map on his instagram site. He changed the info today for his account he set up in May. You can see he changed his name to long.lost.cowpoke (from the movie)

My sister in law took and mapped McCandless’s journey, specifically significant milestones, with Blaine’s current and possible journey if he is trying to match it. This may help us continue to be proactive:

McCandless Pattern vs. Blaine’s Actions
1. House Icon → Leaving Home

McCandless: Burned bridges with family, left without notice.

Blaine: Walked out of school routine, left his phone/SIM behind, declared he didn’t want to be Blaine.
Blaine already hit this milestone.

2. Car Icon → Vehicle as First Stage

McCandless: Drove west until his car was lost in a flash flood, then abandoned it.

Blaine: Drove his own car east, plate pinged in New Orleans. If he abandons it, the “transition” to trains/buses begins.

Watch for him ditching the car near a hub — very symbolic.

3. Desert / Wilderness Stop

McCandless: Wandered in the desert before pushing further north.

Blaine: His “desert” could be a pause in New Orleans or along the road — buying time, scouting bus/train options, or camping in/near his car.

He might linger to test himself before committing to the “big push.”

4. Work / People Stop

McCandless: Took short-term farm and food jobs in South Dakota, bonded with drifters.

Blaine: Talked about becoming a lumberjack or cabin worker (cousins). He could try to pick up seasonal work in PNW/Montana/Idaho once he gets that far north.

Craigslist, Facebook groups, or bulletin boards in those regions could be where he looks next.

5. Ferry / Anchor Moment

McCandless: Tried to make it to Alaska by river and ferry crossings.

Blaine: Most direct symbolic step = Alaska Marine Highway ferry from Bellingham, WA.

This is the critical gate. He can’t walk to Alaska — he has to cross water. This ferry (or a possible flight, but less likely with $1k cash) is the predictable choke point.

Yesterday our focus was on spreading the flyers to parks and airports to try to make people aware of his description, and his vehicle description and plates and contacting local news media. Now we need help I believe in getting flyers to bus stops trains gas stations and news channels close to New Orleans or along the trail! Any of you have guidance or spreadsheets with contact info to help us get these out quickly? #bringhomeBlaine

Blaine is so smart, funny, he is an incredible cross country runner who can run long distances quickly, he is a great swimmer that can hold his breath for a really long time. He loves to make others laugh and smile, he is a giver and loves making balloon animals to brighten someone else's day. He is from a loving Christian home and attends an amazing Christian school. He has an older sister and a younger brother. He has not been in trouble or seemed depressed. He has good grades, but he is not sure yet as to what he wants to do after high school. We have not pressured him to apply for colleges and we are fine with trade-school, taking time to intern or shadow to help him know what he wants to do after highschool. He talked about becoming a Chiropractor or running coach in the last 2 years. Blaine has a very sensitive heart. He did not have a girl he was interested in. #bringhomeBlaine

Timeline:
Monday 9/22/25
5:30-7:30 am He attended Cross country practice .
Came home showered and dressed for school
went back to campus dropped a t-shirt off with a friend in parking lot and at
8:48am we believe he disabled life 360.
9 he went to the bank
9:29 am HEB to buy duct tape, rope, cables, jar of peanut butter cliff bars and got gas in his car. I did not know he left campus as Blaine phone is turned off every morning while at school.
10:45 am I texted Blaine letting him know I bought his homecoming dance ticket as I had seen an email form the school that morning. did not get a response and was not expecting one. later see this message was read but not any of the other texts were read after practice we think he connected laptop to data on his cell and then
12:20 pm removed sim card ( we did not know this til Tuesday)
1:00 pm I am home and think both of my boys are at school
3:30 pm was when his practice after school was scheduled to be over but it does often go over.
4:30 pm I am getting nervous but making dinner and still seeing his life 360 and start messaging and calling him looks like phone is off
5:14 pm I start reaching out to teammates moms
and go to campus looking for his car asking coach who thinks he went home not feeling well maybe kids said not at school after am practice. Then we call police to file missing person report.
Police are convinced he has run away with a girl even though we have zero signs of this and we are telling them about Alaska.
start calling friends that tell us he has been talking a ton about hiking Alaska for months and was even trying to get some of them to go with him. He did not say when he was leaving. Coach says he runs to the sound track for "into the Wild"
6:49am Tuesday 9/23/25 we get 1 ping on plates in New Orleans by border patrol. they only have a plate image. We suspect he is alone.
Yesterday is when he changed his instagram account to new name long.lost.cowpoke with tag lines
I don't want to be found
I don't want to be Blaine

We are heartbroken and want our son safe and to graduate high school some how. Even if that means he does not return to running or his school we love. We are fine with him doing adventure with safety nets in place like a way for us to call him, after graduation which is 2 weeks after he turns 18.

Does he have government ID? I don't think he'd be able to get on the ferry without it.

Have you tried contacting AMHS to let them know that there's a minor who may try to get onboard one of their vessels? Probably worth a shot.

5'9" and 120? On a 17 year old boy? Is he ill? Or does he have an eating disorder? My sons were about 185/190 at that age and height.
