Agreed. How many times have we gotten a good smack and didn't think anything of it? I know I have, as recently as a couple of weeks ago. I was in a hurry and smacked my head with the corner of the car door. Didn't think anything of it until I saw there was a small dented spot on my forehead a couple of days ago.
If a person is on a blood thinner or even taking aspirin it increases the chance of a brain bleed. Not saying he was but it is a possibility.

People who have recently recovered from COVID are often on medication to prevent blood clots.

When someone has a head injury, even a minor bang on the head, medical advice is to have someone wake them up every hour and watch them for the first 24 hours. Someone with a minor head injury can go to sleep, the bleed or brain swelling begins, and the person never wakes up.

Remember the death of Natasha Richardson from a seemingly minor head bump? She felt fine and refused medical care.

Although her fall may have first appeared minor – she reportedly refused to be taken to the hospital at least twice – the head injury she suffered is a type that can turn fatal if not treated in time.

“I spoke to her and she said, ‘Oh darling. I’ve taken a tumble in the snow.’ That’s how she described it,” Neeson told Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes back in 2014 — his first time speaking since the accident.

Moments before her death

Though Richardson initially waved away ambulances sent for her care, she later started showing signs that her condition was worsening. The actress was evacuated to a hospital in Montreal a few hours later and joined there by Neeson, who had been filming in Toronto and quickly left the set to be by her side

That’s no longer the protocol. It’s the reverse now - let the patient sleep.

Respectfully, I would say that would depend on the type of injury, the assessment of the treating physician, and the protocol of the medical establishment.

While someone watching the patient closely would notice changes in breathing, you can’t assess level of consciousness changes while the person is asleep, and that would be an important clue that the patient’s condition is worsening.

Protocols for concussion management are dependent on factors like age, where the person hit their head/how the injury occurred, and the severity of symptoms. Many sites (even the sleep foundation one) suggest that you follow medical personnel advice while stating that waking the person up every hour is not necessary but every few hours or staying with the person to continual monitor might be warranted. If what happened to Mr. Sagat is what has been reported, we do have an instance where being seen by medical personnel, having tests, and being monitored would have saved his life.

So many people do not seek medical care after hitting their head because an ER trip is prohibitively expensive. For those people, it might be a good idea to carefully monitor for decline in condition by waking or really focusing on breathing and body activity, given that they do not have tests and diagnostic work ups to ensure that they don't have a bleed or other brain issue that can cause them to deteriorate rapidly as in the case of Natasha Richardson. JMHO.

Here's the full autopsy report. Would love thoughts from those with medical backgrounds

It's possible he texted someone and said "Ouch, I just slipped and hit my head but it's not too bad." That would be an important clue.
I was thinking that, but if so it wasn’t his wife. I saw an interview with her, and she says the last time she communicated with him was when he was on his way to the hotel after the show. They said they were excited to see each other.
I think it must have happened in his room after that, and they said he was in bed like he went to sleep normally. He must have been in pain though—after reading the autopsy findings, it sounds pretty nasty. I wonder if he fell in the shower. Such a freak accident!

eta. I can’t imagine hitting my head hard enough to break skull bones and think I was fine enough to go to bed. But maybe he was confused due to the injury?

No medical background here, but it sounds like more than just a minor injury to me. I’m also interested what medical members think.
Hmmm. The autopsy report sounds much different than the “minor head wound” that had been previously reported.

A skull fracture, comminuted fractures of the roofs of the orbits, fractures of both sides of the frontal bone.

Contrecoup contusion, which is an injury on the opposite side of where the impact occurred. So a blow to the back of the head would result in a brain injury on the opposite side.

I would think an injury of this sort would result in loss of consciousness.

MOO that is a serious injury to result from “hitting the back of his head on something.”

Questions I would ask: Was there evidence at the scene that indicated a fall occurred? What do they suspect he hit his head on? Did anyone hear a fall or disturbance? Did he post his 3:42 am tweet before or after he fractured his skull??

I heard a doctor on the news explain it like this. The victim hits their head, is confused and groggy for awhile, maybe a little headache even and then they start to feel fine. Afterwards their injury quickly turns fatal.

Now saying several skull fractures at the base of his neck?

One of his friends that was interviewed right after he died said that Bob had covid 2 weeks before. Paraphrasing but Bob said to him that covid was no fun but he was passed it.

This is odd.

Sorry, no medical background, but after googling all the medical terms, this appears suspicious at the very least. There’s a linear fracture across the base of the skull and bilateral (meaning both sides of the head) frontal skull fracture across the eyes.

If there was no alcohol involved, I can’t see how he could possibly fracture both the back and front of his own head?? Giving himself 2 black eyes. Wouldn’t he call 911? Head scratcher for sure.

MOO

A passing out and hitting head on toilet and tub could do it if the fixtures are porcelain. It seems like he would have had to hit everything just right but it seems possible.

If I were his family I would be wanting more answers. It seems like they are comfortable with where this has ended up though.
