CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — It will be 30 years in November since a Charleston cab driver disappeared, never to be seen or head from again.

His bloody taxi cab was found abandoned over a hill, but there have never been any answers on what exactly happened to Bobby Adams.

The investigation started on Twilight Drive on Nov. 30, 1991, when a neighbor found Adams' C&H taxi cab. Adams, 31, was from Huntington but spent most of his time in Charleston.

Adams had simply vanished, leaving few clues behind.

"Not knowing where he is, that's the part that hurts," his father, Bobby Clark, told Eyewitness News in December 1991. At the time of the interview, Adams had been missing for three weeks. Clark also drove a cab for C&H.

"I hate to think that he's dead, but under the circumstances, I can't think of anything else. He wouldn't stay away this long," Clark said.

Adams was last seen driving his taxi on Washington Street East about 4 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, 1991. By 5 p.m. that evening, a neighbor had discovered the cab near his home in a wooded area of Twilight Drive. A parking light was broken and a large pool of blood covered the rear floor and seat.

His colleagues at C&H were at a loss to explain what happened.

"I think it's a shame that a man can't go out and make a living without getting shot or cut up," a dispatcher told WCHS at the time.

In the early stages of the investigation, police didn't know if the blood came from Adams or someone else. Investigators weren't sure if he was a victim or a suspect in a violent crime.

"Right, at that time, you had no clue because you have the cab, you have the blood, and no one around it," Charleston Police Chief of Detectives Lt. Tony Hazelett said.

In an interview with WCHS in 1991, Lt. Pat Epperhart said Adams was a victim or someone else was a victim.

"At this point, we are treating it as if he is a victim and is a missing person. He is going to be listed as a missing person in NCIC, which is a nationwide computer system," Epperhart said.

I think it's very likely that Bobby is deceased, but I hope this brings new attention to him. I also have some thoughts I want to toss out and I would like to hear what you all think. If the man he picked up killed Bobby, why take the body and how far could he take it? It would appear that he didn't try to clean up the cab, so why not just leave Bobby there? I can't see him burying a body unless he got into the cab with a shovel and I can't see that being likely. If this were a robbery that got out of hand, again why not leave Bobby there? Was this planned? Did someone follow the cab, say an accomplice of the man in the taxi? I just can't make any sense of this. It reminds me of the Paul Stine case in San Francisco murdered by the Zodiac Killer... What do you think?

Details of Disappearance

Adams was last seen in Charleston, West Virginia on November 30, 1991. He worked as a cab driver for C&H Cab at the time of his disappearance, and began his shift that day at 4:00 p.m. He was supposed to return the car to C&H Cab at 3:00 a.m. the next day, although it wasn't uncommon for him to not return it at that precise time.

C&H Cab received their last radio communication with Adams at 11:45 p.m. He was last seen on Washington Street east at 3:45 a.m., accompanied by a Caucasian man in forties with blond or light brown hair. He was about six feet tall and wore a brown jacket. He has never been identified.

Adams never returned his taxi has never been heard from again. His cab was found at dusk near Twilight Drive on December 1, parked about 70 feet off the road and partially concealed with branches. It had many scratches on it and one of the front lights was broken. Christmas presents Adam had purchased for his family were in the trunk. On the floor of the passenger side backseat was a pool of blood; authorities stated there was enough blood to presume death had occurred.

Foul play is suspected in Adams's case, which remains unsolved.
