Body of dead teen, honored with ‘extreme embalming,’ is posed with video games, sunglasses, and snacks

A family whose teenage son died honored his memory in an unusual wake: His corpse was positioned in a chair facing a television screen, a video game controller in hand and his favorite snacks next to him.

The funeral home also hosted the 2014 wake of Miriam “Mae Mae” Burbank, 53, who was posed with a beer, a menthol cigarette, and an ashtray at a table. Burbank, a fan of the New Orleans Saints football team, had her fingernails painted in the team colors of black and gold.

Woman Holds Court at Own Funeral with Glass of Beer

Louisiana seems to be the place for "extreme embalming."

Why haven't I heard of this until now? I think it's safe to assume this is a New Orleans thing rather than a Louisiana thing. :)

In April, Mickey Easterling, a New Orleans socialite who passed away at the age of 83, was celebrated one last time at a grand memorial service, where the flamboyant philanthropist wore a pink feather boa and held a glass of champagne.

Famed jazz musician "Uncle" Lionel Batiste's body was propped up at a funeral home as mourners said goodbye to the New Orleans legend.

This just seems very wrong to me like your making a mockery of your dead loved one. I’m not even a fan of open casket funerals to be honest they are rare here in Scotland.

Personally, I think embalming is just macabre and bizarre.
What's next ? Hanging them on a wall like a deer head?
