You would think this day in age you could tell the difference of the bones but i guess not.

You can, but it's not always easy if the bones didn't include skull or feet. I guess even hands can be ambiguous -- the paws of a young bear are apparently quite similar to the untrained eye. I presume from the lack of excitement and the sparse announcement yesterday that they were pretty sure but just needed confirmation.
