Does anyone know if any members of the Smich family have attended the trial? I am curious to understand who is covering his legal bills. Family or Legal Aid?

Wow. I did some sleuthing in the early days when the Twitter photos were still public. Either she has no conscience or she was trying to make things appear normal or maybe it was both.

That was quite the vacation that he was on...if you consider being incarcerated a vacation.

So, the people she was going out with were co-workers and they are in no way a sketchy crowd. Typically, working full-time she would have spent up to 40 hours a week with them. She would not have said anything in the environment she was in because that would have made her work life and social life, very awkward. No one knew what was going on in her personal life because she was not very open about it. People found out about what was going on after DM was arrested, when someone put a name to a face. Also, from what I hear she was completely in love with him.

In the second video posted, the ipad is on and I can't see what the chat is that opens up. help?

He stated it was the chat screen as soon as he turned it on and didn't move from it, so I assume it is the comments that were posted in the tweets today. JMO

The orange thing in front of the can of Axe looks like a buster, a device with teeth inside to bust up marahoochie buds into something you can smoke. Fisherman's Friend for that annoying cough, Advil, lots of batteries, a bottle of Polo, South Park "Kenny" and "Cartman" dolls, jar of cash including $5, $20, $50, half-eaten Lindt chocolate bunny, watches, cheap lighter, and one bill of Canadian Tire money?

LOL. I spy some Oral B floss.

I was just trying to zoom in on ABro's site. Looks like someone sent him a photo of a tattoo before asking about what's wrong with his phone.

Hard to say for certain, but his family would not be in the income group that qualifies for Legal Aid. He was living at home, so apparently his family looked out for him. In the case of Guy Paul Morin, his parents had to put another mortgage on their home and liquidate all their retirement saving to pay for his lawyers.

This document explains what the criteria are for Legal Aid:

His parents aren't legally obliged to pay his expenses, I suppose, but from the parental point of view, whatever mess one's child has gotten into, one would want his (or her) interests looked after to the best extent possible.

I can't imagine being that "in love" or being delusional enough to think that any of the situation was normal...especially since we now know that she wasn't completely in the dark about what happened.

The messages were sent the morning after. I wonder if MS was ignoring him for a reason??

Sorry, now I see it was not DM's #.
All I can make out is "Whats wrong with your phone" and "Why can't I call you" on the bottom right side.

I don't use apple. Can we see the name of the person who is chatting? Is it a phone number?

Just a phone number. Generally this means you haven't set up a "Contact" entry for the person.

Seems to mention a Liz.

Edit: I think I can make out "Liz is getting pick up at 5" at the bottom. Last four digits of number look like 2700 or 2790.

Wouldn't the income calculation be based on his income alone, since he is an adult not a dependant?

Yup - at the top of the screen you can see the number. It looks like 416-472-2790 to me. I can't find the evidence slides now that had the full phone numbers for the main players but the cell tower map exhibits list "2790" as being MM's phone.

Edit - MM's number is 416-877-2790.

DM with a wad of cash in the envelope. What did he need 3 grand for that day? The $350 in his front pocket is also curious since it was separate from the cash in the envelope.
The thing with DM and his band of merry attorneys is they have a bottomless pit of excuses. On the surface, 3K in your back pocket sounds suspicious, but DM had just closed a real estate deal. Excuses? Could have had to pay a contractor cash (plausible) Could have rented out one of his units in Riverside or his new condo and the tenant paid him cash (plausible) Could have loaned someone some money and they paid it back (plausible) More nefarious reasons why he may have had the cash? Paying cash to have the truck painted. Payment/cut for drugs/guns. Hush money for the people who knew too much- i.e.) CN, SS, AM.

IMO, if DM withdrew this money there will be a paper trail. The fact that it was separate from the $350 in his front pocket and in a Canada Trust envelope tells me that it didn't come from one of his homie buddies and it was for a very specific purpose. Like seriously, when was the last time any of his pals would have gone into a Canada Trust to withdraw 3K?

In the Yukon search pic's, DM is shown to have 3 TD Visa's and a TD Canada Trust Business Access card. TD/Canada Trust and RBC where his banks, leading me to suspect that a scrambling DM had withdrawn the money and was on his way to deliver it, but had to pay MS a visit first. Perhaps DM, in feeling the heat coming down, thought he better give CN a bit of cash to retain a lawyer in the event he was arrested. MOO

Like the accused, I don't think any of their 'supporters' <modsnip> thought there would be this much compelling evidence, with so much more to come IMO

It's all up to how smart the lawyers are now. Since RP has not played the "accuracy of DNA" card, which would have surprised me since it's a good argument in some cases but definitely not this case, I'm thinking he is going to go for a time discrepancy scenario. He has to show that some evidence is off. Let us see...

Yes, he on his own would qualify for Legal Aid from what we know of his less-than-steady employment history (unless he has mutual funds or savings or something his parents set up for him).

But GP Morin would have probably qualified for Legal Aid, too. His parents bankrupted themselves because they wanted to hire a good lawyer with the budget to pay for researchers, investigators, whatever. Legal Aid is very bare-bones. It doesn't pay the lawyer very much and doesn't provide for much investigative work or support staff. So, while MS can probably get a Legal Aid certificate on his own (providing he hasn't got assets he could liquidate - we know nothing about that), it could well be that his family want to select a lawyer for him that can do a more thorough job. Not all lawyers take Legal Aid cases, but some of the top ones do, and donate other services pro bono but quietly.

We will probably find out in the end, but that sort of information rarely emerges during a trial except in obvious cases (clearly Bernardo couldn't pay a lawyer).

They appear to be nike Air force Ones, referred to as "all whites"

Thanks. Ah, all white G-Nikes, the sneaker choice of aspiring gangstas. Really, I'm not kidding.

That pic of the tattoo was a message sent from that iPad out to the other number. I cannot make out what the tattoo says.

EDIT: In my opinion, that number up top looks like 416-877-2790. The blue bubbles and the tattoo are being sent from that device to someone's phone/iPad. The blue means it is being sent to another Apple product, as in iMessage.
