I didn't realize a flame would be visible on the outside of the incinerator. Can anyone explain why that would happen?

  • #63
Sorry if this is a dumb question, and I admittedly haven't gone through the whole incinerator thread, but are there viewing windows or where exactly would the flame be seen? The evidence photos of the Eliminator made it appear solid black. Have people sleuthed video of one being ignited (by the manufacturer or w/e)?

ETA - Haha beat me to it billandrew :)

I spend quite a bit of time with the Bosma family and their friends.

The reporters tweeted "At 1:12am the SUV returns to the hangar."

What did they mean? Did the SUV leave the hangar? Or did it just drive back to the north end (where the trailer was left) from the south end (where the pickup truck was left)?

Courtroom 600 is once again at capacity. There's a sign on the door encouraging overflow to go to a second room. #Bosma

I was a bit surprised by that as well. One of two things....it is either part of the initial firing up (which I didn't think would happen with a propane driven machine) or these guys really have no idea how it worked.

Did we get information at some point about the incinerator taking a couple of hours to heat up to usable temperature? If I did indeed read that, maybe these guys tried to help it along and speed up the process by adding in additional fuel? MOO

That's what I asked...and realized it must have gone somewhere because why would they drive around the hangar when they could just walk through it? Of course this is MOO and it's certainly possible they just drove around the building. AC made it seem like they'd left though.

It is quite likely the roar of the after burner firing up on the top of the incinerator would cause some visible flame. I bet MOST users of this product use during the day and may never even notice a flame. I recall SS commenting on the roar the thing made when the afterburner was turned on. MOO

I suppose they could've opened the hatch, turned the propane on for moment, then tossed a match in? This might've created a fireball of sorts, like when you wait too long before lighting a barbeque. But an incinerator of this kind should have a more advanced ignition system!

At the beginning of the trial when the court heard testimony from the guy who sold DM the incinerator (transaction handled by SS) there was an email from SS to the guy saying something along the lines of how well it worked. So I'm assuming at least SS knew how to light it and use it properly.

If the SUV leaves the hanger for 20-30 mins where or what could they have gone to and returned? Toss burner phones? Fetch bbq lighter? propane? Is the farm 15mins away perhaps they forgot some piece?

Ugh. It just occurred to me, since at no time do the video surveillance cameras show anyone putting anyone IN there, once they arrived at the hangar, Tim had to already be IN the incinerator when they arrived.

Well it's disappointing that the videos so far have not shown anything distinctive but perhaps for the family it's for the best. I expected the nighttime motion detected video to be pretty dark and shadowy as I have a security camera of my own and know it does not pick up much in the distance. I don't know why I didn't expect that they would be walking around with a flashlight inside the hangar but then I forgot to factor in that airport security would have been right on it if they had lit the place up in the middle of the night.

I assume that there is footage of at least the SUV coming and going during the daylight hours to tie it in as the vehicle that was also seen going to the hangar in the middle of the night. It's a pretty long shot for the defense to expect the jury to disregard this video because it does not clearly show the accused at the hangar.

And where was Pedo that night? He must have been in the Yukon. According to the cell records, DM hadn't been at the hangar for a few days prior to that night so he couldn't have been left there. :waitasec:

Millard and Smich sit, as they have all along, at a desk behind their lawyers. They each monitors in front of them. #Bosma

Afterburners was also my thought.

Thoughts to the Bosmas.

Good catch. And it makes sense. Transfer TB to the incinerator at the farm. MOO

On their [DM and MS] screens right now is a still image from 0133 AM May 7, showing two men and a dog inside the Millard Hangar #Bosma

But was SS there? He likely could have explained how it worked to DM a hundred times and DM still wouldn't remember. ;) MOO
