.

SS appears to be a good witness for the defense. At least so far. Who called him to the stand I wonder , the crown or DMs lawyer , maybe doesnt matter.

Who Knows - probably was initially intended for that purpose (Burning Garbage) so they could get rid of stolen items perhaps - then they came up with other ideas after the fact. IMO

That was exactly my point.

BBM

I find the statement that he was a friend but didn't hang out with him odd. Isn't going all the way to Mexico with your friend, hanging out. What I do with my friends is hang out. Isn't that what you do?

MOO He's trying to distance himself from DM to save his skin. Buddies talk to each other when they're hanging out. So he's a friend but kinda, not really. It was more of a work friendship?

Interesting.

I'll add a bit of a guy viewpoint on this....believe it or not, this type of relationship is not that odd in the male world. I actually have a couple of guys that I have business type relationships but we never socialize outside of those interactions. We get along great and always enjoy working with each other but it never crossed over into a true personal relationship. The trip to Baja would have been based on SS being his mechanic first and social friend a distant second. As far as the tattoos go...well...guys tend to do dumb things, especially when in groups. :D MOO

My sense is that SS was DM's right hand man for the operation of his "business" but may not have been a true confidant. The fact that he was never charged with any part of this would tend to support this thought. MOO

Why do you say that? Seems to me that he is throwing "Dell" under the bus.....MOO

If SS was the person DM asked CN to talk to about changing his testimony do we think that the Crown would bring that up and tell the Jury here and now?

A lot of us suspected that it was SS that DM was talking about.

If the Crown doesn't bring it up here then I am assuming that it was someone else.

Thoughts? Am I on the right track or am I heading down a path I don't need to take?

Aug. 13, 2012 Schlatman to Penner: "BTW- SN 500 is working great now..Sounds awesome when the afterburner kicks in!!"

Ok, maybe the contact was in August after all.

Okay I went back. SS said on the stand that he did the test burn in mid August or early Sept and gave DM instructions in September. But he contacted Penner on Aug 13th, to get the copy of the invoice and he said it was working great "now". Which indicates that the problems he had and the correction were all complete by that time. Also, how many "test burns" did he do until they got the larger tank?

That is a major discrepancy IMO.

That was exactly my point.

Problem with that theory is that DM showed deception prior to even purchasing the incinerator with the story about the pet business. If it was needed to burn garbage, SS never saw it. I highly doubt that the farm was producing any garbage, so what was its purpose? We know it wasn't for pets and we know it really wasn't used for garbage.

Unless CN actually talked to SS about changing his testimony, SS wouldn't have anything to say to testify about this. This would be something CN would have to testify about.

Maybe it was DM's uncle? His testimony seemed pretty damning to me.

Wasn't it also tweeted that DM went to SS's wedding, and that SS had been to DM's home a few times, and DM had 'recruited' from his previous job, bromance in full effect

You're right. Male Friendships take on a different life than female friendships. Thank you for pointing that out.

MOO, I still think he is trying to downplay his "friendship" with DM.

May I ask, was SS one of the Steam players?

I thin it was AM that they were talking about - AM is actually a personal friend. SS is just an associate through work, it seems.

Schaltman says he was working 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. "Generally, I was doing oil changes, fixing cars, there was a kit car to be built ... basically it was all automotive work."
by Adam Carter 10:47 AM

This sounds like an awful lot of work. Was there an actual business behind this, or was it all just pet projects for DM? For whatever reason, the Crown did not dive too deep into this subject. It seems their intent was just to highlight that there was no work happening on airplanes.

BBM I agree. And to be honest...he'd be crazy not to! But I have a strong feeling the Defense is going to be giving him a rough time with regards to this. MOO

True...but he did say he went to his house to work on cars and they didn't hang out otherwise. And for reference, my boss came to my wedding despite us not being very close at all. Just a person you tend to have to invite and they feel obligated to come for some reason.

And yet AJ claims he used to go over to SS's home and have breakfast with the kids before the two of them went to work. Most days arriving around 9am or later it seems. :waitasec:

And despite the massive amount of work taking place, there was never any income to the business. :waitasec:

Could be the roommate as well. It's got to be something pivotal around guilt as it was the difference in DM's mind between 25 years and not. Admitting he planned to steal a truck and then did steal a truck could fit that bill.

I do think it was likely September before the incinerator was mobile and left the hangar though. It was probably once they got it up onto the trailer, after it was built, that the video of it driving around in the hangar in Sept 2012 was made. And then after that it was driven to the farm and stayed there. You'll notice from the still shot of that video that it also had a generator on the trailer. So how does that fit in to the LB situation?
