Driving to New Mexico doesn't sound like a fantastic all expenses paid vacation. Even though I have been to many conferences and work trips etc. I have been reimbursed for all of the expenses. The only things I never expensed if there was some tourist attraction/night life I wanted to experience on my own time. Otherwise all my food, gas, mileage, hotel, wages, flight, airport limo/parking and whatever else with the trip was paid for. I have brought my wife on trips as well and ordered in food to our rooms to meet my meal allowance each day.

You are a contractor that builds decks and driveways right? No? Because I'll bet you can ask a thousand of them and 99.9% of them will tell you they've never been sent anywhere.

It wasn't his job to ask questions, Sachak says. V agrees but says sometimes DM would take his suggestions. He had the know how, S agrees.

Lisa Hepfner ‏@HefCHCHNews 45s45 seconds ago
"I'm not going to say he was Pinochet or anything but he was your boss, right?" Sachak, of his client Dellen #Millard

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 36s36 seconds ago
He wasn't a dictator, Sachak suggests. Makes a Pinochet reference.
"He was a good boss, yes," Villada says. #Bosma

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 18s18 seconds ago

And since Sachak has been nice enough to point out that JV was added to the MillardAir payroll in 2012, likely when WM was still alive and he and his brothers were doing work on the hangar, what is the explanation for why he was once again not on the payroll after WM's death? Remember, according to LW1, all employees, including JV, were "let go" at that time and only SS was left on the payroll. So if Sachak was trying to point out how DM was helping JV, it was another epic fail. Either after WM's death, or after the work was done on the hangar, JV was taken off the MillardAir payroll and the old routine started back up. Hope there is someone on the jury with some basic accounting knowledge at least to pick up on these things.

MOO

Hoping things like this will be pointed out at the Crown's closing statement before it's time for the jurors to begin deliberation.

When Villata went to New Mexico, he was driving Millard's red Dodge pickup. He was given two credit cards, he says. One was under Wayne Millard's name, the other was under MIllardAir.
by Adam Carter 11:42 AM

"Dellen gave me both cards, and I used them mainly to pay for gas. For meals and things he gave me cash," Villata says.
by Adam Carter 11:43 AM

Sachak now asking about the photo of a black truck Villata testified to seeing on a computer screen at Millard's home. "Anyone who walked into that room would have seen that picture of a black truck," Sachak says.
by Adam Carter 11:46 AM

Sachak also asks if Villata was a close confidant of Millard, and he says no. "He didn't confide in you and give you all his secrets or anything like that?" Villata says no.
by Adam Carter 11:46 AM

The two had more of an employer-employee relationship, he says.
by Adam Carter 11:47 AM

"He was a good boss, yes." Villata says.
by Adam Carter 11:49 AM

Villata says he can't see Smich sitting next to Millard. "That's not Mark."
by Adam Carter 11:50 AM

Sachak says he looks very different than he saw several years ago. "The Mark Smich that you knew would wear a hoodie and a sweatshirt," Sachak says. Villata says yes.
by Adam Carter 11:51 AM

Smich worked a half day for Villata was let go. "He was taking big breaks. I came down after two hours work and he was gone."

You are a contractor that builds decks and driveways right? No? Because I'll bet you can ask a thousand of them and 99.9% of them will tell you they've never been sent anywhere.

My brother has a construction company and he sends his lackeys all over Ontario and occasionally to the US to pick up stuff, because it does not make sense for the boss that's running things to do it. Who should pick up equipment - a guy who my brother already employs as a float driver, or my brother? Who will run the business when my brother is gone?

Just for clarity, Smich is here in the courtroom. Villata just says he doesn't recognize him. He does look very different from his photos.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 20s21 seconds ago
Smich was not always with Millard, Sachak suggests. V agrees. Was just one of his friends. #Bosma

  • #135
Is anyone on here in the court room today? Wondering what DM and MS reactions were when JV said that he didn't recognize Mark? I think that Sachak is going to try to distance DM from MS the night of the crime. Try to plead the case the MS committed the crime when DM wasn't around.

A quite a few of my friends work in refrigeration, electricians, carpenters, concrete, and paving. Most of them are sent wherever the work is for upwards of 6-8months. Their room and board was paid for along with periodically flying their wife and kids out to visit.

If my boss asked me tomorrow to drive to pick up a car for him. I would not do it unless my wages were paid and all expenses. Trips for my company are not something I enjoy doing regardless of where they are. In fact I hate them. I bring my wife a lot because eating a lone and going back to a hotel room alone is not enjoyable for upwards of 2 weeks. Regardless of your career path doing something for work is never a vacation.
