S: On May 7, you received a text saying airport politics...no one goes to the hangar today. Not even just to grab something." V: Yes. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 35s36 seconds ago
May 7 Villada received text from Millard saying "Airport politics. No one goes to the hangar today. Not even just to grab something." #bosma

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 26s27 seconds ago
It was unusual to get bc V says they weren't even working at the airport. First time ever received such a text. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 44s44 seconds ago
Text was unusual. #Bosma

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 7s7 seconds ago
Millard didn't mention anything about a hangar closure when they saw each other on May 4 or May 6. V agrees, no. #Bosma

My brother has a construction company and he sends his lackeys all over Ontario and occasionally to the US to pick up stuff, because it does not make sense for the boss that's running things to do it. Who should pick up equipment - a guy who my brother already employs as a float driver, or my brother? Who will run the business when my brother is gone?

same with a family member of mine who owns a paving company.

and also for another family member who works for Miller Paving. I never know where is off to for work, or training.

Am I the only one who finds it in extremely poor taste for Sachak to be attempting to joke around?

  • #144
Sachak now asking about the text he got from Millard on May 7 that said "Airport politics. No one goes to the hangar today, not even just to grab something."
by Adam Carter 12:09 PM

Villata says Millard made no mention of shutting down the hangar on that date when he saw him earlier in the week.
by Adam Carter 12:10 PM

"The shutting down of the hangar came to you as a surprise?" Sachak asks. Villata says yes.
by Adam Carter 12:12 PM

Sachak is done. Smich's lawyer Thomas Dungey now cross examining.
by Adam Carter 12:13 PM

Villada got the "airport politics" text from #Millard on May 7 (like others)Had never before been told not to go near the hangar. #TimBosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 18s19 seconds ago
Millard saw Villada twice May 4 but didn't say he would be closing hangar on May 7.

  • #146
"When Mark worked for you for that short period of time, his girlfriend was there also?" Dungey asks. "Working? No," Villata says.
by Adam Carter 12:14 PM

Dungey says she worked at Riverside, Villata says he has no memory of that.
by Adam Carter 12:14 PM

Dungey asks why the company he had with Millard was called Villata homes. "That was the only name that came to my mind," he says. "I believe I suggested it to Dellen and he kind of liked it."
by Adam Carter 12:15 PM

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 42s42 seconds ago
So the text came as a surprise, Sachak suggests. V agrees.

That's it from Sachak
. #Bosma

Lisa Hepfner ‏@HefCHCHNews 29s29 seconds ago
Villada says he was surprised at "politics" email" but "it surprised me more when he was arrested." #TimBosma

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 39s40 seconds ago
Now Dungeys turn: you said you hadn't seen Mark for about 6 months. V says with Millard yes. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 18s18 seconds ago
Sachak done is hours-long cross of Villada. Now Dungey doing cross for Smich. #Bosma

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 21s21 seconds ago
When Mark worked for you, his gf was also there, Dungey says.
V disagrees.
I suggest to you she did some work at Riverside, Dungey says.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 22s23 seconds ago
Dungey says she was doing some work in the apartment. V says he doesn't remember this girl working. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 13s14 seconds ago
Asked if Meneses, Smich's girlfriend, also worked at Riverside. Villada doesn't remember her.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 25s26 seconds ago
Dungey: I'm confused, why was the company called - and I'm going to use the gringo (pronunciation) - Villada Homes? #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 24s24 seconds ago
Why was it called Villada Homes? Villada says he suggested it.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 8s8 seconds ago
V says it's all that came to mind. Dungey: it was bc you and DM were in an agreement to work together. V agrees: yes sir. #Bosma

  • #149
molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 9s10 seconds ago
You'd do the work. And as Millard's counsel pointed out, you were virtually working 7 days day and night. V agrees. #Bosma

Lisa Hepfner ‏@HefCHCHNews 15s15 seconds ago
#Smich lawyer now up. Asks why company was called Villada Homes. "That was the only name that came to my mind." #Millard set up the company

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 6s7 seconds ago
Dungey: and the idea was Millard, bc he was English, Cdn, he'd take care of financial aspect of company. V agrees. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 16s16 seconds ago
Dungey suggests Villada did the labour, 7 days a week, night and day. And Millard would take care of finances "because he was Canadian."

  • #150
molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 12s13 seconds ago
You left these things to Millard bc he was English, Cdn, and knew how things worked. V: not because he was Cdn, bc he was the boss. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 19s19 seconds ago
"Not because he was Canadian but because he was the boss," says Villada.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 18s19 seconds ago
Dungey: I understand the company was formed to build houses...but never did you ever build one house. V: no never. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 25s25 seconds ago
Villada Homes never built a house. Renovated a house in Burlington.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 20s20 seconds ago
Dungey: on the farm, never any work done by you to build homes? V: no it was never done, only talked about. #Bosma

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 14s15 seconds ago
Villada says he never built a home during his time at Villada homes even though that's why the company was formed

"You were working virtually seven days a week, night and day," Dungey says. "The idea was because Mr. Millard was English/Canadian, he would take care of the financial aspect of the company."
by Adam Carter 12:17 PM

"Not because he was Canadian, but because he was the boss," Villata says.
by Adam Carter 12:17 PM

The idea was the company would build and renovate homes -- "Never did you ever build one house, correct?" Dungey asks. "No, never," Villata says.

Am I the only one who finds it in extremely poor taste for Sachak to be attempting to joke around?

I agree. And it's not because he's fighting for the side I'm against. If a Crown lawyer joked like that it would be just as bad. There's a mocking/intimidating aspect to Sachak's humor that is inappropriate IMO.

  • #153
molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 32s32 seconds ago
Dungey: all this hard work was bc you thought you'd be building homes & sharing in them. V says yes he was going to have a steady job #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 1m1 minute ago
Villada thought Millard was taking care of the company's taxes.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 53s54 seconds ago
Dungey: you thought DM had taken care of taxes. You were taken aback when govt came to you saying you were owing. V agrees. #Bosma

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 55s55 seconds ago
Mark Smich's lawyer Thomas Dungey is now asking Villada questions

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 56s57 seconds ago
Dungey asks about Shane Schlatman. Notes Sachak had suggested what a competent mechanic and V agreed. #Bosma

Lisa Hepfner ‏@HefCHCHNews 45s46 seconds ago
Villada says business plan never realized. Dungey: did #Millard take care of finances bc he's Cdn? "No, bc he's the boss."

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 28s29 seconds ago
Schlatman knew how to take windshield out of vehicle? Yes.

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 55s55 seconds ago
Villada says he was taken aback when he found out he owed taxes because Millard was supposed to take care of it

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 1m1 minute ago
So It would be very easy for him to take out a windshield, Dungey says. V agrees. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 15s15 seconds ago
Millard gave Villada 2 VISA cards for New Mexico trip. One belonged to Wayne Millard.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 15s15 seconds ago
Dungey asks about credit cards he took on New Mexico drive to get dune buggy. Only name on card V remembers was Wayne Millard. #Bosma

  • #155
Villata says at the outset, he thought Millard would be taking care of taxes. "When the government came to you and said you owe all these taxes, you were quite surprised?" Villata says yes.
by Adam Carter 12:21 PM

"It would be very easy for Mr. Schlatman to take a windshield out of a vehicle, would it not?" Dungey asks. "I would think so, yes," Villata says.
by Adam Carter 12:22 PM

Dungey now asking about the trip to pick up a dune buggy for MIllard. "We were to drop off a bike in Reno for Dellen when he was going to travel again, and [pick up] an engine for Shane and the dune buggy," Villata says. Dungey says none of these things had to do with MillardAir, but instead Millard's personal lifestyle.
by Adam Carter 12:24 PM

  • #156
molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 11s12 seconds ago
They also dropped off a bike in Reno, V says. That he was going to pick up when he travelled again. And then an engine for Shane & the buggy

I guess that's why it took them the extra days?

  • #157
molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 39s40 seconds ago
These had nothing to do w Millardair--personal biz for Millard, Dungey says. V agrees: "I suppose so." #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 14s15 seconds ago
That trip for the dune buggy had nothing to do with Millardair, says Dungey, who suggests other VISA was for Millardair.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 8s9 seconds ago
V worked at many properties for Millard. Farm, hangar, distillery district condo, Maplegate, riverside... #Bosma

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 12s13 seconds ago
Villada agrees that many of the things he did at work were for Millard's personal lifestyle, under his direction

So sometimes DM paid JV with cheques through MillardAir that were being put on the books under JV's SIN and other times he was paid cash. There was confusion about submitting receipts and he never received a T4. So because of this odd business arrangement, DM had to bail him out regarding taxes on the claims that DM was putting through MillardAir, as a contractor likely.

In 2012 he was finally put on the payroll after 4 years of this other "arrangement". Did he receive a T4 for 2012? I know he said he received one for 2013. Just a mess.

MOO

What a shady setup, indeed.
Pay the poor worker with a company cheque tagged with his SIN number and then what? Either they didn't make tax deductions or they did and then did not submit the funds to CRA. What about other deductions, what about other workers? The employer has to submit the company's share of EI, CPP at well.
Casual labour is one thing, guy gets paid a company cheque with no deductions for a very occasional work day, but certainly not a regular employee like JV. But send 10K to LW2 "for nothing done" Being self-employed as an agent, I wonder if she claimed this money on her tax return?
What a mess is right.
I really, really hope Millardair and all get a thorough audit, if they haven't already.

Worked at all Millard properties under Dellen's direction. Other than the hangar, rest had nothing to do with Millardair.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 1m1 minute ago
Dungey: Besides hangar, all of that other work had nothing to do with Millardair, correct?
V: yes. #Bosma

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 55s55 seconds ago
Outside the hangar, "all the things you had to do had nothing to do with MillardAir" Dungey suggests

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 32s32 seconds ago
"All that work was for the personal gain of Dellen Millard and had nothing to do with Millardair," says Dungey.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 23s23 seconds ago
.D: All that other work was for the personal gain of Dellen Millard and had nothing to do with Millardair, correct? #Bosma

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 35s35 seconds ago
"All that work was for the personal gain of mister Millard, right?" Dungey asks.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 12s13 seconds ago
V says there were also the fathers properties, that he also worked for Wayne Millard. #Bosma

Lisa Hepfner ‏@HefCHCHNews 8s9 seconds ago
All the work Villada did was for #Millard personally, not Millard Air

  • #160
Dungey now listing the several properties that Villata worked on for Millard. "And these were all jobs for Mr. Dellen Millard ... under his direction," Dungey says. "Outside of doing some work at the hangar, all of the other jobs you did at the other properties had nothing to do with MillardAir, correct?" Villata says only what was done at the airport.
by Adam Carter 12:25 PM

"All that work was for the personal gain of Mr. Millard and had nothing to do with MillardAir, correct?" Dungey asks. Villata says they took things out of the hangar and took them to the farm.
