"A 17-year-old boy is dead and five others were wounded after gunfire erupted in Mississauga on Saturday evening, Peel Regional Police say.

Speaking to reporters from the scene Saturday night, Chief Chris McCord said among those injured are a 13 year-old, a 16 year-old, two 17 year-olds and a woman in her 50s. One of those victims is in life-threatening condition, while the others are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, McCord said.

Police are now searching for what they believe are "multiple individuals armed with semi-automatic weapons," who fled from the area after the shooting.

"There is a concern for public safety," McCord said, though he added police have combed the area and don't have reason to believe the suspects will return.

Peel Regional Police were called to an apartment building on Darcel Avenue near Morning Star Drive and Goreway Drive at 6:22 p.m. ET. Multiple vehicles with bullet holes could be seen in the area.

Investigators believe the shooting took place at a parkette behind the building. McCord told reporters that investigators have information that a music video was being filmed behind the building, but it's unknown if the shooting was related to that filming in any way."

He said a 17-year-old old boy died at the scene and that five others — a 13-year-old, a 16-year-old, two 17-year-olds and a woman in her 50s — were wounded. McCord said one of the wounded was in serious condition and that the other four suffered non life-threatening injuries.

The chief also noted that “a lot” of shell casings were found scattered over a wide area and that several vehicles had been hit by the gunfire, though police had yet to determine whether any of those vehicles belonged to the shooters.

Speaking at a news conference late Saturday night, McCord said it was very early in the investigation and that many questions about the incident remained unanswered, including the motive, whether the victims were targeted and whether the shooting was gang related."

"A woman in her 50s was one of the six people injured, and she remains in serious, life-threatening condition. Two 17-year-olds, one 16-year-old and a 13-year-old have also all sustained serious but non life-threatening injuries.

One neighbour said the 13-year-old girl, who was one of the shooting victims, was a Syrian refugee, and had only recently arrived in the country.

"I know her mother," said the young man who did not want to be identified. "She was just playing in the grass in front of the building, minding her own business."

Sadly, it could be all three.

How terrified everyone must have been with so many shooters.

I do know that gangs are found far, and wide, and their violent infestations are ruining cities everywhere.

They seem to be in every country now, and spreading like a deadly virus.

And what is even sadder in many cases here in the states LE knows who they are, but in so many cases, the elected officials dont have the officer's back in order for them to go in, and clean all of these gangs out that are taking over communities, and terrorizing them.

Teen killed in 'ambush' shooting in Mississauga an innocent victim, says police chief
"MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — A teen killed in an “ambush-type” shooting Saturday night west of Toronto is believed to be a bystander and police are searching for at least seven suspects who fired semi-automatic handguns in Mississauga, Ont., said the chief of Peel Regional Police.

“The attackers had complete disregard for public safety within our community,” Chris McCord told reporters on Sunday."

"He said the suspects were dressed in dark clothing, some hiding their faces with balaclavas and that they made their way on foot to a parkette behind an apartment complex where a rap video was expected to be filmed.

McCord said the suspects then fired gunshots “indiscriminately” at around 6:20 p.m. before fleeing the scene.

“This was very brazen. It was a beautiful evening. There was an ice cream truck here and there were families lined up outside the ice cream truck and then they (the suspects) came in and just indiscriminately opened fire with no regard for any of the innocent people gathered here,” he said."

I'm confused why would this happen because of the rap video being made?

Why would they want to shoot up totally innocent people because of that?

I admit, I don't know anything about this area of Ont.

No matter what it's so terrifying for those who thought they were all going to die in all of the hail of bullets flying.

Have they had this same type of violent activity before in that area?

Well, it is something perhaps to tiptoe around these days, but Toronto and the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) have been experiencing a very high number of shootings that often seem to kill/maim innocent bystanders as well as the targeted people.
It seems to be a gang thing, people here are (quietly, imo) getting very upset that this usually very safe city, has been seemingly hijacked in recent years by violent people, "gun play" is no longer limited to "bad areas".

It's no different in our states either. Many once very safe beautiful cities, or rural communities are now plagued with violent gangs which are also the main drug pushers, and they rape, and rob at gunpoint along with drive by shootings.

In the many areas infested now the elected officials tried to ignore it was even happening for 20 years because they wanted outsiders to think they were safe. It was more about money than protecting their citizens.

When they no longer could pretend it was happening it's been too late to even begin to get a handle on one of the worst problems facing our nation. Imo

Many still tiptoe around it here too as if it doesnt exist while in the US ..gangs alone are killing thousands each year collectively with thousands more being injured.

And they are selling illegal drugs, and drug overdoses are killing more in many states than vehicle accidents.

I will never understand why many seems to never want to talk about such a serious issue our country has been facing for decades now, and in most cities it continues to be the violent homicides being done by gangs in them for the citizens living there. Sigh.

TO is my hometown and I'm back often. I left my neighbourhood at age 11 to attend a specialized arts school way across town, in a much rougher area -- metal detectors, self-defence classes, armed officers, gang swarming etc. It was worth it, but even then many of the kids I went to school with, malled with, were fascinated with the street and gang cultures we read about, heard about, soaked up with the music we loved, copying the clothes, parlance, postures, beefing, excitement, danger, even the cliff edges. Sometimes it felt like these kids -- good, smart, talented, engaged, sometimes struggling -- couldn't wait for it to jump the border from Detroit and NYC, and get to TO, and dig in.

Well, it's here now. Time to sort out a coherent set of action plans, and get to work I guess.

"It was a sunny Saturday evening when 17-year-old Jonathan Davis decided to walk from a parkette to his nearby apartment and change his shoes.

It was warm, and a group of people were people lining up for an ice cream truck nearby.

Then the shooting began.

Selma Alincy, a family friend of Davis's mother, said the bullets came so fast that "everyone who heard it thought it was fireworks."
"He went inside to change his shoes, and he did not even make it back to his apartment," Alincy said."

"Davis's father, who is going blind, was there. He asked Alincy if his son was dead.

"I said. 'No, he's not, they're working on him,"' she said. "When I saw them take the cloth and put it over his body, that's when I knew that he had passed."

Alincy was holding Davis's father. When his mother arrived, she collapsed in her arms as well."

"Alincy described Davis as quiet and intelligent — an honour roll student who loved video games and helped his father navigate the world as he lost his vision.

"He was his father's right hand," she said."

"Members of the Peel District School Board's Critical Incident Response Team will be at Lincoln M. Alexander Secondary School today to support staff and students."

A joint-forces operation dubbed "Project Siphon" has linked the gang to drug trafficking, human trafficking, money laundering and a series of shootings, Peel Regional Police Chief Nish Duraiappah said during a Wednesday morning press conference.
