'Forest boy Ray' identified as Dutch

I hope he can work out whatever it was that made him feel like it would be a good idea to leave himself behind and invent "Ray".

The English-speaking 'Forest Boy' who said he lived in a German wood for five years is actually Dutch and only left home five days before his 'discovery', it has been claimed.
German police said the man's stepmother had identified the 'boy', who had called himself 'Ray' and said he had been living rough with his father in the wilderness before wandering into Berlin in September, as being called Robin van Helsum.
He is 20-years-old, and not 17 as he had previously stated, and went missing from his home in Hengelo, near the Germany city of Gronau, less than one week before he told his story.

I agree. Very strange case and I also believe there is more to this kid's story.

If he's American, he may not have shown up in the European database. Also, Justin's (Ray) case was removed from National and International databases so there was no match.

I wonder if the German and Washington officials will do a further investigation. Doubt it.

A Dutch website on missing relatives carried an entry on Robin van Helsum, saying he was born in 1992 and had been missing since Sept. 2, 2011 — three days before he arrived in Berlin.

He was reported missing just 3 days before he showed up and noone connected the dots?

It is strange. One article did reference that his parents are separated but sent out a twitter looking for him and also that, during the disappearance, his father actually died! WTH? I hope authorities have spoken to his birth mother if a step-mother id'ed him.

This may be out of left field, but something happened to Justin. He is somewhere. I do note what wfgodot is saying about the earlobes but I can't tell with that too much. Need a clearer picture.

How did his dad die while he was missing? Has his mother been contacted and did she report him missing or was it only his step-mother and father who did so?

If this kid has problems, could that be from parental alienation, being given a new identity, being lied to for years?

At this point, I doubt it, but it is worth a look, IMO:

According to Die Welt, it emerged Friday that van Helsum had been officially been reported missing on September 2, 2011 by his separated parents.

"His parents called the police, but the search was not made public, as he was not a minor and there was no danger that he would harm himself or anyone else," the Dutch police spokeswoman said.

The parents wrote a message on Twitter in December 2011 that read, "Who knows where Robin van Helsum is." The Dutch police also said the boy wrote his parents a letter from Berlin. His father then really did die in February of this year.

That is exactly what I have been trying to say. You put it in much clearer terms. There is definitely something more to the story. I agree about the earlobes, but would need clearer pictures.

I don't see anything unusual about his earlobes. abc has some clearer photos of him and videos. His earlobes look normal. He does have a strong resemblance to what a missing boy Justin would look like at this age (at some angles his photos look very similar to the age advanced images of Justin), although that appears to be just a coincidence at this point.

Article states he could face criminal charges soon and could be kicked out of the social care where he is living very soon.

The pictures and videos on ABC are very clear and you can see "forest boy's" (van Helsum) earlobes. They look attached to me.

Justin's earlobes appear to be the unattached variety and Robin's are attached.

What really gets us with Justin Jeschke is Robin's resemblance to Justin's mother. I had the photos up and was beginning to explain it to a friend when she piped up "Oh, was the Forest Boy actually a woman?" She thought the forest boy looked exactly like Justin's mother.

Also, Robin told German authorities his name was Ray. One of the names the Doenetwork states Justin may go by is Ray. Robin said his mother's name is Doreen. Justin's mother's name is Debra. Robin had a chain with the letter "D" around his neck in a photo released by, IIRC, friends.

Robin's dad is reported to have just died this past February, while he has been missing. How? How old was he? His step-mother identified Robin. Where is his mother? Who is his step-mother? What's her name?

Robin's friends came forward. An ex girlfriend identified him. How did his parents miss that the Forest Boy emerged in Berlin just 3 days after their son went missing while on a trip to Berlin? How come they never called German authorities to check? Could it be they don't want publicity?

Robin gave a birth date that more closely matches with Justin's than his own, reported age of 20. Some think he looks younger than his peers.

In sum, I agree it is likely just a coincidence, but Justin is somewhere. He went missing in Germany, kidnapped by his mother. He is a U.S. citizen whose parents lived in Washington State but his last name is German (immigrants maybe)? Linguists could not figure out the linguistic origin of Forest Boy. Is that because his English has a mixture of an American sound to it, with perhaps German and maybe a Dutch accent, if he's been living there for a while? Maybe the mix of accents stumped them? Because how hard would it be for German linguists to detect English with a Dutch accent, since Holland is a border country?

I would just like the authorities to make sure and investigate Robin's roots.

Yeah, you are right. The ABC video has clearer shots and they really do look like very different earlobes than Justin's.

I guess just an incredible coincidence!
