BP Oil Spill Approaching Gulf Coast

Keys resident: Florida Bay is “definitely contaminated now”; BP’s claims office in Marathon “has brought in security”

The anger of Keys residents over the spill was apparent when BP set up a claims office across the street from the Marathon airport, Hernandez said. “People went over there, and they wanted to kill them.” The claims office has brought in security.

Thanks Tony what a wonderful job you did. Are you going to donate some of the money to he people?

He is set to be replaced by US managing director Bob Dudley in the first step to a "Future BP". A huge restructuring could see the firm sell its refining operations and petrol stations to concentrate on finding oil and gas.

In other words they are going to change the name and start over.

Nothing we can do but shake our heads, and thank all the people who pushed for drilling in the ocean.

The company offered settlements to coastal residents of no more than $5,000 if they give up their right to sue.

They have got to be joking. I swear Tony and his executives think Americans have stupid written on their forehead.

Where's the oil gone?

REP. MARKEY: It leaves the Gulf of Mexico as a toxic bowl of materials which is going to haunt this region for months and years to come...

MSNBC: ...longer than "years"?

MARKEY: All of that oil is still under the surface...

The dispersant broke up the oil and sent it under the surface-but it's still there!! BP was financially responsible for the amount of oil "spilled"=therefore it was their intent to break up the oil rather collect it so they would have less money to pay out!!:furious:
Also, dragging BP feet to pay out claims-they haven't even put the 20 billion into escrow yet!!:banghead:

Feinberg says BP hasn't put money in escrow account yet

Saturday, July 24, 2010,
BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala. -- Ken Feinberg said today he hasn't been able to start writing claims checks because BP PLC has not yet deposited any money into the $20 billion escrow fund it promised to create.
Feinberg, who was appointed last month to administer individual and business claims stemming from the oil spill, held an early morning town hall meeting in Bayou La Batre on Saturday before meeting with the Press-Register editorial board in downtown Mobile.

Feinberg said he is leaning toward giving partial payments to companies and people who are indirectly impacted by the spill -- an outlet store in Foley hurt by the decline in beach traffic, for example.

Thanks essies, I am so surprised that more people aren't worried. I guess out of sight out of mind. I've been noticing more people are talking about Mel Gibson and Octomom than this. To me this is the biggest and scariest thing since 911. IMO I think people are going to get a virus that will be more deadly than aids, this will be water and airborne and no fish, child , adult will be safe. I hope I'm wrong but something is going to give and when natures fury lets loose there is no defense.

Look at the numbers in only 100 days 640 miles. That is only what we can see. Imagine what's on the ocean floor or in the loop continuing on to Mexico, the Islands and who knows. Who is keeping track of what is happening in the air?

Observations by NOAA continue to indicate no significant amounts of oil moving toward the Loop Current. Nearly 90 percent of Florida’s more than 1,260 miles of coastline remains unimpacted.

If lying was an art these scientist would all be Picassos.

If your tired of hearing about the oil spill this should make you very happy.

"Anyone who thinks this wasn't a catastrophe must be far away from it," he said in Biloxi, where he announced that former Federal Emergency Management Agency chief James Lee Witt will be supporting BP's Gulf restoration work.
After an April 20 rig explosion that killed 11 workers, BP's blown-out well gushed an estimated 94 million to 184 million gallons of oil before a temporary cap stopped it July 15. Efforts to permanently plug the gusher had been expected to begin as early as Sunday, but the government's point man for the spill said Friday that those plans hit a snag.

We were out today, as we are everyday. Heat advisory, seaweed green/black. Tar balls still visible, got some lovely sand dollars covered in black oil. Tons of tourists, swimming way out. Green flag, but who knows?
We are all sick to see the media trying to downplay the reality, of what is yet to come. Did see one lonely seagull. No pelicans in sight. Where are the cleanup crew????? They aren't here. Sadly, I have read that most are being laid off, because why???? When the hell will someone stand up to this catastrophe, and shoot straight??? OH, yeah, anybody want to eat our local seafood, and find out it's toxic??? Dispersants??? WTH
Gonna stop ranting, but this is NOT OVER!!!!

By the way, Lynard Skynard is doing a free concert on Okaloosa Island August 15th.

Friends are coming down for that, so I guess we go, cause we are the locals. Still, how is that really gonna help???

I am so sorry ShowerSinger. I heard on the news today that BP is reporting that they can't find anymore oil. I know it's b.s. but it seems the people are all going along with it. I wouldn't go in that water. I heard it's going to be a trillion to restore the grasslands, my donation didn't come close to that. The bottom feeders like oysters and shrimp are all dying. I'm glad to hear a few rockers are still helping. The people in power know Americans are sick of hearing about it and now BP is going to leave. They are going to take the few jobs the fishermen have, helping clean up the oil, and leave them to catch poisoned fish. They are doing the same thing they did with Katrina, they built a few hundred homes and then moved on. Now they will turn it over to the lowest bidder and leave them to clean up the oil, who knows what kind of job they are going to do. I don't know what to say except I'm sorry and praying for all the coastal people, I hope nobody gets sick.

The Big Coverup: Land Farming
July 27, 2010 4:10 pm
snip

Another term to add to your BP spill glossary: Land Farming. And you should file it under “Oldest, Dirtiest Tricks in the Book.”
It’s a longtime practice of Big Oil to simply coverup its contamination, literally finding some place to dump toxic material then cover it up. A while back, the idea was that “dilution is the solution to pollution,” and of course out of sight means out of mind. Remember the subsurface use of dispersant at the well site to keep the oil out of sight in the now-notorious underwater plumes. Covering up the oil rather than removing it and disposing of it in an authorized way poses major risks to the environment and human health. Oil leeches into groundwater and can make its way into freshwater aquifers and be ingested by humans and animals. It kills marine life and marshes. It poisons grasses that are ingested by livestock and thereby can work its way into the food chain. And it can do all this damage AFTER land farming has taken place.

This is definetly not over. If we turn a blind eye to this disaster and coverup - we only have ourselves to blame. The people of the gulf coast and all the wildlife and aqualife are the first casualties -but they are far from the last casualties. This will spread in the air, the rain, and the ground water. Some people are back to swimming and fishing just because they are being told it's OK? Everyone must question what is being fed to us by the media and govt. authorities that are more interested in money than lives!:furious:

front page of the miami herald yesterday was about the "new" worry, less cleanup jobs with the cap working and permant fix started. they've been paying the fisherman, get this...
$1500 a day
to cleanup tar balls. i guess they have reduced the number of boats taking the cleanupers out, and are alternating weeks ( like switching the crews everyother week) but paying them the same as when they weren't alternating.

imo, this is why there is never enough of various types of help to go around, that is an insane amount imo!
