BP Oil Spill Approaching Gulf Coast

Oilgate! BP and All the President's Men (Except One) Seek to Contain Truth of Leak in the Gulf (PHOTOS)(VIDEO)
snip-
The official story emerging now from BP and most of the president's men - and now being echoed by some national media - is: the oil is gone; the danger is past and was exaggerated; the dispersants were effective in keeping oil from reaching the shore; the oil that does reach shore is mostly weathered and not toxic; and federal officials have found no unsafe levels of oil in air or water samples and no evidence of illness due to oil or dispersant use.

As my father used to say: Good story if true.

The official story does not match the reality that I saw from the Cessna or have heard from people I have met during community visits since the well was temporarily sealed - and ever since I first arrived in early May. Public health is a huge concern - and with good reason.

The fact that the official story in the Gulf does not match what people are experiencing is more alarming to me than the oil disaster. How can our president hold BP accountable if he accepts - or worse is complicit in - the crime?
Correcting the false official story is the first step toward holding the criminal accountable to the law and lore of the land. If the government fails to hold the criminal accountable, as it did during the Exxon Valdez, then the people and environment will bear the costs of this avoidable tragedy.

BP oil spill officially largest on record

~snipped & BBM

The BP well has released just under five million barrels--roughly 210 million gallons--of oil. That's 20 times more oil than was released during the Exxon Valdez spill--which previously held the record for the worst oil spill on American territory.

That figure also decisively surpassed the 3.3 million barrels released during the Ixtoc spill in the Bay of Campeche off the eastern coast of Mexico in 1979, heretofore the world's largest accidental oil spill.

First I would like to give each of you a warm, genuine hug...thanking you all for caring about what is truly important and for sharing all of the links full of information!!! Essies a special thanks to you for linking the TED conference...oh how I wish the Ted conferences were mandatory if not in all households then at least in colleges and high schools...this is what we need to know and care about, not how much time lindsey lohan spends in jail!!!! UGH!!!

The sad part is more people do seem to care about lindsey lohan and other gossip than our environment. I hope the birds don't start getting sick and spread that pandemic President Bush talked about. I worry that something is going to get in the air and cause a really bad virus. This is jmo and I hope I'm wrong.

BP Cover Up? Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser Says Oil Giant Lies About Oil Spill Cleanup
snip-
We used to get that information from BP, but it's obvious now that their job is to fly out there and say there's no oil," he said. "The local people are having to go out and look for it ourself."
Depending on the technique used, the permanent plug could come as soon as this week, and late August at the latest.

But Nungesser said that even then, the crisis will not be over.

"The big question is, how much oil is out there beneath the surface? And how long will we have to fight before all the oil is gone from the Gulf?"

IMO those dispersants did nothing but weigh down the oil and made it sink. There was an expert who spoke with NBC news and said it took a year for all the oil to show up on Prince William Sound and that was only one third of what this spill was.

And the hits just keep on coming. Cure for certain diseases on hold due to oil.

It’s going to impact the discovery of new medicines from the sea,” says Gregory Roth, director of medicinal chemistry at the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute in Florida. “We don’t know what’s going to happen. Certainly, something negative will happen, I mean, this is a mess. How exactly that is going to impact medical research is difficult to assess. We know it will on some level.”

One of the most promising treatments threatened by the spill is a possible cure for malaria under research at the University of Central Florida. There, molecular biology and drug discovery expert Debopam Chakrabarti is testing compounds taken from sponges collected off the coast of Florida and other waters in the path of the spill—and finding some success with them.

Submersibles being used to find oil:

Water samples are analyzed after the recovery of the AUV for a range of chemicals related with dispersants and oil. DNA analysis of these water samples helps detect the presence of types of bacteria, algae or other microorganisms. This AUV can dive to 5,000 ft below the ocean surface for gathering water samples in the seafloor’s vicinity of the oil spill. The AUV usually adopts a roller-coaster route through the water, so that its instruments are able to monitor the ocean’s cross section.

The Crime of the Century: What BP and the US Government Don't Want You to Know, Part I
Jerry Cope and Charles Hambleton.Posted: August 4, 2010 11:46 AM

JC(Jerry Cope): Whales?

RO(Riki Ott): And whales. There would be stories from boat captains of offshore, we started calling death gyres, where the rips all the different currents sweep the oceans surface, that would be the collection points for hundreds of dolphins and sea turtles and birds and even whales floating. So we got four different times latitudes/longitude coordinates where (this was happening) but by the time we got to these lat/longs which is always a couple of days later there was nothing there. There was boom put around these areas to collect the animals and we know this happened at Exxon Valdez too. The rips are where the dead things collect. We also know from Exxon Valdez that only 1% in our case of the carcasses that floated off to sea actually made landfall in the Gulf of Alaska. I don't believe there have been any carcass drift studies down here that would give us some indication that when something does wash up on the beach what percentage it is of the whole. But we know that offshore there was an attempt by BP and the government to keep the animals from coming onshore in great numbers. The excuse was this was a health problem -- we don't want to create a health hazard. That would only be a good excuse if they kept tallies of all the numbers because all the numbers - all the animals - are evidence for federal court. We the people own these animals and they become evidence for damages to charge for BP. In Exxon Valdez the carcasses were kept under triple lock and key security until the natural resource damage assessment study was completed and that was 2 1/2 years after the spill. Then all the animals were burned but not until then.
So people offshore were reporting this first and then carcasses started making it onshore. Then I started hearing from people in Alabama a lot and the western half of Florida - a little bit in Mississippi - but mostly what was going on then there was an attempt to keep people off the beaches, cameras off the beaches. I was literally flying in a plane and the FAA boundary changed. It was offshore first with the barrier islands and all of a sudden it just hopped right to shore to Alabama that's where we were flying over and the pilot was just like - he couldn't believe it - he was like look at that and I didn't know what he was looking but then he points at the little red line which had all of sudden grown and he just looked at me and said the only reason that they have done this is so people can't see what is going on. And what that little red line meant was no cameras on shore and three days later the oil came onshore and the carcasses came onshore into Alabama.

The reason BP has gone to such great lengths to hide the devastation caused by the irresponsible drilling operations and blow out at Mississippi Canyon 252 is financial. Every death that results from the oil spill has a cash value, whether animal or human. Images of dead animals are difficult to spin in the media, and they resonate across all demographics. BP also has a strong interest in maintaining a business-as-usual model for the beach resort communities along the Gulf Coast that have been economically devastated and lost the majority of their annual revenue during the summer season of 2010. The only sharks circling the Gulf waters now are based on land.

Hopefully the oil has stopped-but the crimes and coverup continues!!:furious:

We walk the beach daily. We LIVE here. Now, today, there is this CRUD, for lack of a better understanding, CRUD in the sand. It kind of looks like plastic... but it sticks to the sand, and I'm thinking dispersants. Anyway, it's everywhere. I was worried that my son was even touching it.... Still see tar balls in the sea, and NOBODY is here picking the 🤬🤬🤬🤬 up anymore. They were only noticible ONE WEEKEND, and they just basically walked around with a few shovels, pretending to do something. No where near what needed to be done. AND OH NO not gonna be eating the local seafood. You've got to be kidding....
We did see a shark REAL close to the shore yesterday. Scary thing was with binoculars he was totally black.....hmmmm
Seaweed is mostly green, but an awful lot of black. Funny still, most of this green algae looking stuff is everywhere now. Did finally see a pelican. Just a lone one, but nice to see. Also, a lone sandpiper. Three seagulls, one looked black, and sickly. Son's boogie board has oil on it. Yeah, right, the oceans clean again. No longer on the front page. What BS. Now talking about lifting the moratorium on oil wells....Sick, I tell ya. Our government is ruining our children's futures. I'm disgusted with the "outta sight, oughta mind" mentality with the media. This 🤬🤬🤬🤬 didn't just evaporate. Remember, it was the size of Cuba. Hmmm....

This is just so devastating. I love the water and am so sympathetic to everyone living in the affected area.

We are on the Space Coast so of course I'm afraid it will come here. I keep praying for everyone being impacted by this.

We're diving the Vandenburg wreck in the Keys in a couple of weeks I am so freaked out about the oil. I hate to think I'm doing something just because of BP, but they are making me dive a dive I would have waited on because I am so afraid the oil will finally hit the Keys. I grew up watching the Vandenburg and the Redstone sit at Port Canaveral, I have to see it underwater.

If I was in charge of this criminal investigation I wouldn't sleep until somebody is under arrest. They are going to take their time now, because in their opinion it is over. I am so angry, and I just don't see a lot Americans all that concerned. Thousands of fish will continue to die as the fresh water and salt water mix. I wish I lived closer because I would be down there everyday yelling with a bull horn.

I 100% agree with you. The lack of concern or care from the general public seems to be unbelievable. I think way to many people are gullible and actually believe what is being told to them by BP...it's scary...that is MOO!!!

Beaches all along the Gulf Coast are clean, safe and open for business,” Mr. Obama said. He said he wanted to let “fellow Americans know that they should come on down here,” adding, “Not just to support the region, but also because it’s a beautiful place to visit.”

Today, the well is capped, oil is no longer flowing into the gulf, and it has not been flowing for a month,” Mr. Obama said at a Coast Guard district station here, with cutters behind him and his wife, Michelle. “But I’m here to tell you that our job is not finished, and we are not going anywhere until it is.”
