Brandon Durham, shot dead by police officer when he called for help during a home invasion

Typical & sad. Calling the authorities under circumstances like this will almost always end badly for the homeowner/apartment renter. It is more than likely that they will unjustifiably shoot/assault/arrest the person calling them & that nothing will happen to the criminal/perp.

This happens all the time. And, one of the more well-known cases was back in 2017 - when an Australian-American woman in MI called the authorities due to a domestic abuse case happening near her home. And, they shot her dead:

So Boudreaux had been at Brandon’s house earlier that night, while Brandon was at a hotel with another woman. Brandon called 911 that night to get Boudreaux to leave his house (apparently he called when he was still at hotel?). So LE goes to Brandon’s house and Boudreaux leaves for the airport. The plane ticket was canceled because it was purchased with a stolen credit card so Beaudroux decides to go back to Brandon’s house, which resulted in second (and final) call to 911 that night. Brandon referred to Boudreaux as a male to police.

Still no matter what the background it doesn't make a difference to what happened over this 20 seconds of time.

This is just so sad and I'm praying for his family. I'm thinking the same thing...why would you shoot the person in their underwear? I couldn't watch the video but viewed a still shot of them in the doorway. I can clearly see the knife in the intruder's hand. The cop may not have been able to immediately distinguish this, but this escalated way too quickly. And oops, as a cop, I have to make quick split second decisons, sorry I killed the wrong person, just doesn't jive.

What type of additional training can officers take that will reduce the number of incidences like this from happening?

Someone posted up thread how some articles are still referring to the intruder as a she. And the cold and heartless things that were said to his daughter as the intruder was arrested.

For some reason I'm unable to replay the video you linked @autologicjosh but I think I might finally see what you're getting at? I was looking for black or silver and was seeing the jacket and jacket liner. When they are on the ground, there is something tan or off-white separating them. You can see later from the still at 6:49 that it looks like a chair was toppled over. You can see the chair leg and the label on the bottom of where the seat is. I think the beige thing between them is the back of the chair that was knocked over.

Is there something that I'm not seeing? It's weird how your eyes can play tricks when you watch it over and over so I start to doubt myself! Can you give the timestamp of where you see the shield being pulled out?
Thank you you are right its a chair!! Mystery solved!! Great eyes!!
