A Brazilian tourist who vanished after falling during a hike near an active volcano in Indonesia has been found dead, the country’s government has confirmed.

Juliana Marins, 26, was last seen early Saturday morning when she slipped from a cliff edge bordering the hiking trail.


Despite initial signs of life – including screams for help reported by park officials and drone footage showing her conscious and moving – teams struggled to reach her due to fog, treacherous terrain and worsening weather.

That is so sad. I had seen the story the other day and that they were trying to get to her. Horrible that she laid there for a while alive and apparently conscious. I hope she wasn't in a lot of pain.

this is so sad, i hope she can rest in peace.

ifc i read somewhere that she had asked the guide if they could stop for a moment because she was getting tired but they chose to push on. she stopped with their knowledge to catch her breath but when they went back she was missing. i tried to find where i had read it but can't find it.

Marins had been hiking with five other foreign tourists and a local guide when she lost her footing and plunged down a cliffside, falling about 600m in two stages. She survived the initial fall and was seen moving and calling for help, but successive rescue efforts were thwarted by fog, shifting sands and steep, unstable terrain.

Her body was finally located another 450m down the cliffside by rescue workers using a thermal drone on 24 June, near the crater wall. She was declared dead at the scene.

Based on her being described as an influencer, I wonder if her reason for wanting to stay behind was to capture photos and selfies.

As we know, this type of activity has lead to many people falling. Her last photos will tell her family a lot. Sad for them.
