The Searles had just married in 2023 but had been together for at least 10 years before that, living in France. Probably together even longer as I wouldn't expect they would move to France together right after meeting one another.

The mayor is clear (BBC article above) that he believes it wasn’t a robbery gone wrong but a homicide.

I think he is probably correct. Robbery gone wrong =homicide. How else does it go wrong? I guess a basic B&E but most of those are about no one being in the place of the B&E. This seems different.

I think the 'violent deaths' were in reference to the couple, not the dogs. The reporting just wasn't very clear.

Occam’s razor strikes deep - it’s most likely a murder-suicide sadly; ignore all the froth of hitmen etc - could be that he killed his wife after a violent argument then hanged himself.

It was reported that his hunting dogs were taken for DNA testing. I didn’t read the article closely, but it was before I saw the details about how they were found and so from a scan read I felt the intimation was the dogs might have attacked. Clearly not the case.

Anyway, dogs seem to have survived.
