British Researchers Create Human-Animal Hybrid Embryos

No, not now. But at the rate our understanding of genetics is increasing, no one can say what will be possible in 5, 10 or 20 years. Crossbreeding hybrids would be impossible naturally. But with genesplicing who knows what they will be able to do.

We can only hope that our wisdom will increase at the same rate as our scientific understanding. Given our past history, it doesn't look good.

No?! Not possible, ever, ever ever ever EVER! Not the same species. NOT POSSIBLE. ETA: The number of chromosomes differs. I don't think we can even crossbreed with chimps, or other Apes because they also have different numbers of chromosomes. That's how much difference there is. ETA: Ok, they say it *MIGHT* be possible one day. Keep in mind, it isn't easy to make a mule, and they are likening the chromosomal similarity between chimps and humans as like those amongst the equus species. For now though, it isn't even possible to inter-breed with the species that is closest to us genetically. It won't be possible to inter-breed and make hybrids with cows ANY TIME SOON!

KatK, with all due respect, you can't tell me someone won't try to do that someday. It wasn't that long ago that S. Korea created kittens that glow in the dark. The Salk Institute in SD has created mice with small amounts of human brain cells. Yes, yes, it's all for the good.

Many years ago, cloning was just a wacky storyline in a comic book. Nothing is sacred anymore, and nothing would surprise me in the future.

I was so pooped last night and let my imagination run away.
I should have taken the time to read the articles.
Anyways, if it will help further medicine and do no harm, I'm all for it.

(getting cow with human face outta my head... )
LOL...I understand. Some days are just crazy. I hope you are feeling rested today.:blowkiss: :blowkiss:

Ok, you don't want to hear the Mr.'s opinions on those who are panicing. He was reading over my shoulder, I had to make him read all the topic to get him to simmer down a bit, but he is still grumbling. It's a hot button issue for both of us. (He is like his mother in this, she was a Scientist, with a cold logical mind, who would cut you to ribbons with her sardonic very intelligent verbal lashing if you were not logical, and allowed emotion to cloud your vision. She was actually a microbiologist, as in, with a degree, an actual Scientist. He is only like this, cold and intolerant towards those who he sees as blindly panicing and not thinking. I'm resisting saying what he wants me to say, and being kinder.) Look, we have to find ways to research these terrible diseases, right? Don't you think, that (to borrow some of the Mr.'s phrasing) a lot more lives would be saved, if we could grow organs in vats for those who need them, instead of waiting for a donor to die? They aren't going to waste time and money on making cow/human hybrids, when there is more profit and benefit to all mankind in figuring out our ailments. I do believe, they were studying bio-luminesnce with their glowing kittens. (And also possibly how such creatures adapted, either it was vision or cold climate survival and this was an offshoot.) And, weren't the rats with human brain cells test subjects to study a brain illness or the effects of a medicine on brain cells too? That *IS* for the good. *RAWR*
