How can people who work in law enforcement stand this? I was a dispatcher for a few years in a small Nevada police station. Nothing like what officers and detectives and investigators do, but close enough to see what they do...day after day after day. All that hard work and all those emotions and then to have the courts let the perv go to offend again! It's just so heartbreaking....sorry for the rant...

The Occupation of Corrections Officers and Law Enforcement run in my family. Some have since retired and some are still working in those fields here and in other states.
I worked for a police department prior to becoming a Correctional Officer.

At least, I got to read it here first before I heard it on the news. It is heartwrenching and my prayers go out to Jim, Janet, and her siblings.

I will say an extra prayer for AR. For the courage shown by her telling the truth and allowing Brooke to come home to the family who truly loves her, I applaud her. I hope she gets the help she needs to come to terms with all that has happened.

I don't think we've heard the entire story, yet. I think something happened with Brooke the night before she was taken to that store.

The next arrest I want to hear about is Denise....and the 3rd man....

In the affidavit, it states that Gagnon had pictures from Jacques showing juvenile 1 having sex with her minor boyfriend-any chance the minor boyfriend is the same person she supposedly left with once Uncle J told her to go from the house?

I think Gagnon knew exactly what was going on. He accessed her myspace at Jacques request and made changes.

Poor Brooke, she did not stand a chance with a mother like she had who allowed her to be subjected to the presence of known sex offenders. It sounds like Brooke tried to fight and he killed her.

May Jacques be someone's little in prison for years and years and years to come.

Police Believe They Have Found Brooke's Body

"Bethel, Vermont - July 2, 2008

Police believe they have found the remains of Brooke Bennett, 12, of Braintree.

"It is with a heavy heart... and deep sadness... that I announce we have located what we believe to be the remains of Brooke Bennett," said Vt. State Police Col. James Baker. "This death is clearly suspicious. It appears to be foul play."

Police say the remains were found on property on Crocker Road in Randolph near the home of Michael Jacques. Tuesday, investigators found ground there that had been recently disturbed. Wednesday, a search found the body there. Police say Brooke's body was recovered at 4:45 p.m.

"Brooke was located as a result of information developed during the search of Michael Jacques' residence. The information developed led investigators to Crocker Road," explained Baker.

An autopsy will be performed in Burlington to confirm it is Brooke and to try to find the cause of death. Brooke's family was notified of the discovery.

"The painful discovery of Brooke's body today is tragic and heartbreaking," said Baker."

Well, this just breaks my heart! I can't believe this has happened again, but at the same time I'm sure many of us suspected this would be the outcome.
So many people failed this girl and her cousin. Her cousin is so damaged right now she can't be held responsible for anything. She'll always survivor's guilt now to contend with.
Maybe now Vermont will get it's act together. Over and over again, this state has sided with judges' rulings and gone soft on the offenders, and they almost always repeat. They can't be stopped, no matter what type of "treatment" they get. Jacques should NEVER have been allowed to be out of prison for his last offense.
The moms- don't even get me started. I can't feel sympathy for them right now. I truly believe this woman Denise had to have known what was going on, Cassandra- who knows right now, but where was she through all of this- not there for her daughter, that's for sure. Ignorance is NOT an excuse. If my kids go off for more than an hour without checking in, I'm out there checking up.
Shep Smith just indicated that she was raped by one or more men that day! I can't stand this. My deepest sympathies for Brooke's Aunt, Jim Bennett and his wife. My own son was due on July 12, 1995, but came out on the 9th instead. He's healthy and happy, and she should be too.

I think Shep might be going on what was told to AR prior by her uncle about Brooke going off to the program to have sex with adult men. No mention of other men were in the affidavit except for the minor boyfriend of AR and it stated he never entered the home at that time.

I can't help but think that they both were in cahoots and were somehow going to abduct Brooke. There would be no other reason to post that message the day BEFORE her disappearance. Jacques was setting it up to look like an Internet abduction. Maybe, he was doing this just in case she threatened to tell and he decided to kill her.

I just cannot see Gagnon agreeing to get involved in a murder coverup unless this is the tip of the iceberg for both of them. I just have to shake my head. You mean to tell me that Brooke's mother and AR's mother knew or suspected nothing. You will never get me to believe that AR's mother did not know that something was going on with all of those (neon) signs at her house.

I could be wrong, but from what I understood, the last message on Brooke's MySpace blog was originally posted the night before she disappeared (or early a.m.). However, it was accessed twice or so the next evening and 'altered' by the San Antonio based computer (which would be the step dad). FWIW, the original message could have been something completely benign, and changed to make it look sinister (ie she was meeting someone). I'm not quite clear on this, but I'm thinking they may have even attempted to alter the posting time of it.

I'll wait until everything comes out. I know that just prior to the uncle calling LE early the morning after Brooke was reported missing, the uncle and step dad had a long conversation (about 20 minutes). It was after this conversation, I believe, that the uncle called LE to find out what the LE plan of action was for investigating Brooke's disappearance.

Sounds like he was fishing, IMO, to see what to get rid of.

interesting...I thought most crime labs didn't do autopsies, only ME's do. I looked up the Vermont State Crime Lab (one came up in Waterbury VT) but it said nothing about providing autopsy services. Just evidence, DNA and such. Wherever she is, I hope they are the best and find out everything about what happened to Brooke.

The sickest D part of this is that Brooke's death was SO friggin preventable....

As a mother and as a former teacher, I have always felt that my #1 job was to keep my children safe and to protect them in every way humanly possible.
