Dearest Wicket,:blowkiss:I cannot remember who told me this or if I read it somewhere, but homes that are built quite a distance apart many times are filled with troubles. You can look down a road and/or street and homes are situated nicely within distance and then you see one or two homes that are six to eight lots apart. There's a reason, some abuse experts say. It could be spousal abuse, child abuse, alcoholism, etc. but voices travel -- please don't go nuts thinking I'm picking on homes that have no close neighbors. I'm not at all. They say it's not usually the homes that are newly built but homes that have sat empty for a bit. But I guess it's something to think about. This case has made me check sex offenders in my city - I have three within three streets of our home. One is actually living within a school zone. I'm calling my council person on Monday to find out why - if schools should be a drug-free area shouldn't pedophiles be excluded from that area?
From the bio dad's SIL (sister of his present wife, Janet, step-mom of Brooke), who was posting here prior to the announcement of Brooke's body being found, the father did know of the uncle's history and had talked to Brooke and her mom. IIRC, he told her mom he didn't want her around him and he wasn't aware of just how much she had been spending time with her cousin (ie him). Her bio dad and step mom Janet had spoken to Brooke about 'things,' and she assured them everything was ok. They had no clue.
In defense of Brooke's bio dad and his family, Brooke did not live with her father and there was most likely a lot he wasn't aware of. He also had just spent some time in Iraq. So, it's not like he didn't try.
To be honest, I believe there are MANY people who think just because an offense is years old, the perv hasn't been caught doing anything since, they're cured..............WRONG!!!!!!!!............as we here at WS have learned. Some people just don't get it.
I'm not saying the dad didn't understand, but I believe he did what he could and I believe no one, except maybe that parole officer, knew just how dangerous this guy was. Oh,.......and of course AR who didn't tell anyone, that we know of.
The mom on the other hand, especially the perps wife, well, that's a whole different story, IMO. She had to have known.

Just getting through the affidavits is tough. I can't imagine how horrible it is to hear all of this in person for LE. I am sure there are many more horror stories that we don't want to know.I missed most of yesterday's thread as well as this thread today due to real life commitments and errands that had to be done. Two members here were kind enough to email me a copy of the affidavit, and for that I thank them! I printed all 18 pages of it and took it with me when my daughter and I made a 60-mile round trip to pick up our grandson for the weekend - his mom has to work late all weekend (major dept. store). I read it all and was shocked and sickened at the disclosures made in that affidavit! I realize that what's been disclosed is only the tip of the iceberg too and that leaves us to only imagine what horrors Brooke endured.
I'm not up to speed with the thoughts of those here, but I wonder what everyone's opinion of AR is? Is she a victim or is she a perpetrator? When she agreed to being part of the initial "take down" of Brooke, by tying her up did AR know that the outcome would be death, or did she think she was participating in some sort of sadistic bondage???
One conclusion I have come to is that Cassandra, Denise, and the grandmother had to have been aware of what was going on and I count them as complicit in all that happened.
Many years back, my town was so outraged that LE was about to release a SO into our community that they kept him in custody. I'll have to go back and check how they manged to do it. It was some time ago.If only more towns and cities here in Vermont were like these two .......
The power of public outcry
There was a sex offender that was to be released to the public from the unit I was working in.
The community of Winooski (a few miles from the facility) was alerted of his pending release. He was going to move in with his mother.
City officials held a meeting to alert the residents of the concern of this high risk offender securing a residence there.
A high risk, untreated sex offender.
Media release;

The residence were outraged and the media then came to the facility to cover the story.
Here is an article;

So because of the public outcry, it was decided that he would live in a motel room close to the facility.
So, the South Burlington Police Department alerted their community about his release to the community.
He moved into the motel and shortly after, he was told to leave by the owner.

He then went to a halfway house in Boston.
He decided to leave there and hopped a bus back here. He violated Federal probation and was arrested when he exited the bus.

It took me for ever to peck this post out. (I am a pecker, not a typer)
I just want to point out the power of voices.

No! Absolutely not. I need to go back to read what she wrote again about her relation to Janet, but often if you have older cousins or relatives...they are referred to as Aunt. I haven't seen one post of her's that is in any way suspicious.Can we be clear from now on that it was not Brooke's aunt posting here, so anything said by someone posing as Brooke's aunt should be suspect.
He did not buy that digusting equipment

I think that AR is both a victim and a perpetrator.
She didn't admit any role in Brooke's disappearance until after she was confronted with her own emails. I believe there is a strong possibility that she participated in harming Brooke. We have her own words agreeing to help tie her up, is undecided about having some 'time' with her, and further wishes that Brooke would suffer and have someone urinate in her mouth. Good god. There is too much detail here for this to be her simply going along with Jacques plan. What caused this rage against her cousin, we don't know now, we may never know.
Certainly having been abused by a total sex freak for several years and having a worthlessmother who looked the other way set the stage for her pathology. It appears that she strongly identified with her abuser...who knows what else he did to her, gave her drugs, alcohol and at what age. She's absolutely a victim, but that cannot absolve her of responsibility for actively assisting in the planned abduction/rape/suffering of her younger cousin.
I had first thought she assisted because perhaps she wanted someone to share her misery with...the two cousins could 'share' the secret, but her emails made it evident that she had a lot of hostility toward her cousin. I believe that AR is damaged beyond repair, she has shown herself to easily controllable and came, it appears, to identify strongly with her abuser...this doesn't bode well for her future, when you add in the guilt of assisting in the killing of her cousin, I can't see her being 'fixable'.
I also think there is a chance that the boyfriend [Juvenile 2] semen may have been used as a means of either framing him or keeping him quiet. We don't know enough about AR's relationship with the boyfriend. Jaques planned this out very carefully, so carefully that I believe he either intended to keep Brooke as a sex slave or he planned to fulfill his ultimate fantasy...to torture a child to death.
Can we be clear from now on that it was not Brooke's aunt posting here, so anything said by someone posing as Brooke's aunt should be suspect.
IIRC: She was Janets cousin however Brooke called her Aunt.

At 14 yo and having been abused for so long, I have to believe she needs to be looked at as a victim still even if she went to great lengths to perpetrate the abduction/torture/murder. Shawn Hornbeck is a good example of this. He abducted Ben and helped keep him in hiding, but he is considered a victim not a perp.
I don't doubt that AR did have to participate in many forms of abuse over the years. However, the take down/tying up doesn't sound like part of the sexual assault...but simply part of the plan to control Brooke until the assault could happen.
Sorry, Taxi...but if they had drugged her...they would not have needed to use such tactics. I only wish they had.He wanted to torture her and know she was in pain. :furious:
