Grosenheider, Esther O'Neal Knabel
AUSTIN, TEXAS/ WONEWOC - Esther O'Neal Knabel Grosenheider, age 89, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Wonewoc, died on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006. She was born on Nov. 28, 1916, in Pocahontas, Ill., the daughter of Leo and Nellie Knabel. She was the sixth of Leo and Nellie's eight children. In 1933, she married Junas (J.L.) Grosenheider in Alhambra, Ill. Together they raised eight children while making a living farming in Illinois and Wisconsin. Her family is her legacy. Esther was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and participated in many church functions. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. She visited 48 states, Barbados, Hong Kong and Australia. She was also an accomplished chef and worked in restaurants in Illinois, Wisconsin and Texas, in addition to raising her children. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Junas (J.L.) Grosenheider; and her son, Elton L. Grosenheider. Esther is survived by her children,

Kevin Grosenheider of Anniston, Ala., Terry (Ave) Grosenheider of Madison, Wis. and Brent (Donna) Grosenheider of Georgetown, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Leonard Knabel of Decatur, Ill. and Donald Knabel of Melbourne, Australia. Memorial services will be conducted on Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at 11 a.m. in ST. PAUL'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, Wonewoc, with Pastor Kevin Cortez officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Wonewoc. Friends may call on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.
