Yep, just got back from the dr. and benadryl is the answer! It's just an allergic reaction to a bug bite. He's had reactions before, but they weren't like this. So we just have to benadryl him up-which I had done last night just so he wouldn't scratch just in case it was impetigo-and keep it clean.

Cocoa Beach--An 8 foot alligator was found under a car in a car dealership today--trappers were called and it was removed--drought is causing gators to search out for water and this one settled in a big puddle under a Mitsubishi

Im so glad it was that! Impetigo sounds like it could be a mess and he would have to be out of school. I hope it heals for him soon :)

Thanks everyone. I'm certainly glad it wasn't impetigo too. I still can't seem to figure out whether impetigo is caused by uncleanliness or is just a common skin rash. Some online sources say one thing, and others say another thing.

I don't know about now, but impetigo was very common when I was in grade school; of course that was many moons ago.

Glad it wasnt Impetigo, I had that when I was very young, it is very contagious and I had to be isolated for ages - boring. I find it odd that they prescribe Benedryl for problems like this. Benedryl here is for coughs and colds.

I didn't know Benadryl was formulated for different things in different places around the world. the Benadryl we have has an antihistamine, which is exactly what he needed. We've been giving him that, and then cleaning the bites 3 times a day and putting bacitracin and gauze on it, just to be sure they don't get infected. They haven't gotten better or worse.

Benadryl is used to lessen allergic reactions, be it pollen, mosquito bites, spider bites, poison oak, poison ivy; anything that one might have an allergic-type reaction to. Formulation may be controlled, or changed, based on our changing laws on drugs. Many common drugs can be used to help create illegal drugs; i.e methamphetamine, so recently, formulations have been changed, and/or, restrictions have been placed on their sale.

We have antihistimines that help with all of the above symptoms, one that I do know is phenergan, there are many others but cant remember the names, but Benadryl here is definitely for coughs and colds.
