Police have opened a criminal investigation into the disappearance of Tasmanian man Bruce Fairfax, who was reported missing on a bushwalk with his wife six years ago.

Mr Fairfax, 66, was reported missing from the Duckhole Lake Track area at Strathblane, in Tasmania's south, on October 14, 2017.
