Choice is a powerful act of freedom. Whatever I might feel about the injustices of my country taking place each day. I'm always grateful to remember I live in a free society. The laws being enforced in Brunei go against the very essence of humanity. The United Nations must speak out with the loudest voice possible! These barbaric crimes will now be enforced in the most brutal sadistic ways. My heart goes out to LGBT community of Brunei who no longer have a Choice over their basic human rights. Its 2019 wake up and smell Humanity! Freedom for all.
Brunei to punish gay sex with death

This is so awful. I do hope that world leaders (lenders, supporters, and strategic partners) speak up or sever ties with Brunei on this issue.

Absolutely appalling. I was at my Hairstylist this morning who is gay and married to his wonderful male partner. We had discussion about this. Breaks my heart.

I was told on the Christchurch thread that New Zealand has a right to make their own laws according to their wishes and desires. I guess that applies to Brunei also ?.....moo

This is a human rights violation.

Do people agree with the law that Jews were to be put to death?

This is a difficult one.

Homosexuality is still frowned upon or has illegal status in 100 countries and is still criminalised in 72 countries...

Gay relationships are still criminalised in 72 countries, report finds

....the vast majority fall under christian and islamic countries within Africa, Middle East and Asia. In addition 10 countries, (including Brunei), have the death penalty for homosexuality, while some of the 10 have punishments restricted to only men.

Death penalty for homosexuality - Wikipedia

There is no doubt that these type of punishments are extreme, but who are we to lecture other countries on how they conduct their national policies when they don't poke their noses into ours?.

Suppression of the gay community in countries where they often don't have the means to emigrate is unfortunate. However, I'm just wondering whether this could fall under a valid claim for international asylum?.

Needless to say, majority and longstanding Christian and Islamic countries will likely never change policies significantly on this issue. For them homosexuality is a taboo and they simply don't want to accept it in they're countries.

Killing Jews was acceptable in Germany along with homosexuals.

The world dealt with South Africa.

There are countries in the world that do not accept US death penalty so they will not send criminals back to the US.

The world intervened in China using prison labor to make prodcuts.

I am sure there are plenty of examples.

Right, because you can absolutely equate gun control laws with a law that demands death by stoning for abortion, gay sex, anal sex, and all unmarried sex.

China still does that. China has horrific human rights violations and the world does NOTHING! Brunei will cozy up to China on this issue and again the world will do nothing. I think Brunei's policy is horrific. But leaders and celebrities calling them out and urging boycotts etc are incredibly hypocritical.

Why? South Africa changed.

China because of its huge tentacles everywhere on earth gets away with so much. They are slowly but steadily taking over fhe world with nary a shot fired
