Fifteen people are reported dead and a large number are injured after a bus lost control, left the road and overturned on a rock massif near the Iskar Gorge in Bulgaria.

The crash occurred on the Sofia-Svoge road in the Leskov Dol area at about 5pm on August 25. The bus was reported to have collided with cars before veering off the road.

Fifteen ambulances from Sofia, three from Vratsa and three from Montana were sent to the scene. A number of people are being transported to hospitals in Sofia, including Pirogov emergency hospital, the Military Medical Academy, Tsaritsa Joanna and St Anna hospitals.”

My sympathies to the family and friends. How horrible, they were supposed to be having FUN. So sad.

27 people are said to be injured.

Health officials said some of those injured were in a critical condition. There was no immediate information about the nationality of the passengers. Following the crash, the government immediately declared Monday a national day of mourning.

At least 15 people have been killed in a road crash in Bulgaria involving a bus carrying tourists.

Police said the bus was carrying tourists on a weekend trip to a nearby resort when it overturned and then plunged down a side road 66ft below the main route it had been travelling on.

Another 27 people were injured in the incident.

The accident happened at 5.10pm local time on Saturday, 12 miles north of the capital Sofia.
