Police in eastern India are looking for a burglar who reportedly left sorry notes at the scene of his crime.

The anonymous thief is reported to have raided several shops at Vani Vihar Square in the Orissa capital Bhubaneswar.

Before leaving with the stolen items the thief left letters in each cash drawer requesting shop owners to excuse him because he was "forced to commit theft under pressing circumstances", reports Oriya language newspaper Pragativadi.
