Yes, it is strange how young they look...but maybe it's just the d out-of-style clothing that makes them look so young?? And I do wonder why the older sibs didn't make an escape when the situation started to spiral downward??

JMO, the clothing style does make some of them look young. I noticed at least one of the girls looks like she could be 20 yrs old or older.

Whatever the turning point was for the parents it must have been huge. Maybe there was no turning point, perhaps some type of belief system?
This is a totally different looking family than I had imagined. I am surprised by my pre conceived notions.

Totally surprised this could even happen.

The poor boys all have the father's haircut, which is .... not good. I'm guessing the mom wore her hair like the girls do in the freaky friday wedding photos.

OK I'm going to say it:

Those photos remind me of the Duggars.

Second, that father could be a dead ringer for Jimmy Savile. Seriously.

Feel sorry for the kids - wonder if one or both parents got involved with drugs? Or had a nervous breakdown?

How exactly can they afford to feed so many children?!

Maybe they couldn't. :(

Sterilization might be cheaper in their case.

Yes I was thinking of that bizarre Quiverfull religious movement where people don't use birth control and measure their level of religious devotion according to the number of children they have. If they were part of this kind of religious cult, it would explain why the older children remained at home with the rest. They've probably been home schooled and taught that the outside world is a dangerous, sinful place. Probably no tv, computers or much interaction with the outside world.

It would seem such a lifestyle would be very expensive and difficult to maintain unless you were living on a farm, growing your own food, etc. They probably ran into financial trouble and could no longer afford to feed their children adequately. The chaining up of some of them I don't get. That's horrific.

At first I thought the same thing but looking closer at photos even 5 years back, Disney photos etc- these sweet girls look like KAREN CARPENTER. These girls look SEVERELY MALNOURISHED IMHO. It’s horrifying.
Mom somehow gets her share of food- but not healthy looking either, just not emancipated.
but the kids other than baby ALL LOOK SEVERELY MALNOURISHED.
THESE KIDS LOOK EMACIATED. TORTURED.
Look closely.
They are sweet kids- all 13 and quite obviously the mom is extremely mentally ill and the dad is somehow helpless/ must have been abused by her verbally. He doesn’t look to be mentally ill like the mom does. He looks stressed. I know a family where mom was schizophrenic (undiagnosed until recently) and she mentally and verbally abused and threatened the dad. That said, they are a lovely family- just with serious illness and all that goes with it.She was only diagnosed when oldest son started acting out and was diagnosed with schizophrenia.
It’s possible the chaining started when the symptoms came on full swing in the boys/ girls.
IMHO it’s undiagnosed schizophrenia
I’m SO sad. Bless these poor children.

Im leaning more domineering father who treated the wife like a breeding cow and children like his own animals. Almost a control thing. I wouldnt be suprised if sexual assault charges come out of this. It seems like such a twisted cult.

Especially pre-reality tv, when the Duggar children were being brought up in matching Handmaid's Tale outfits.

It might be something similar. Adherents to the Quiverful movement would not be permitted by their beliefs to recreate dancing or the incendiary music of Elvis.

I think it’s a little early to place all of the blame on the mother and none on the father. I find it hard to believe he was helpless in this situation.

Dad: Randy Quaid in the movie "Kingpin".

I'm getting the Duggar vibe too, but with - perhaps - no spouse matches have been found for the older children so the kept the children perpetually young??

I'm trying to make sense of this...and really can't. I do suspect it will be a religious thing and they were very isolated.

Can anyone find out what the father did for a living?

I don't know. You know how sometimes the planets align and Crazy meets Crazy and they become Super Crazy?
IMO this was a two-person wrecking crew. Just a gut feeling.

Riverside County Sheriff's Department - News Release

Early Sunday morning on January 14, 2018, a 17-year old juvenile escaped from her residence situated in the 100 Block of Muir Woods Road, Perris and managed to call 911 from a cellular device she found inside the house. The teenager claimed her 12 brothers and sisters were being held captive inside the residence by her parents and further claimed some of her siblings were bound with chains and padlocks.

When Police Officers from the Perris Police Department and Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department met with the juvenile, she appeared to be only 10 years old and slightly emaciated. After a brief interview with the female, they contacted 57-year old David Allen Turpin and 49-year old Louise Anna Turpin at the residence where the teenager escaped.

Further investigation revealed several children shackled to their beds with chains and padlocks in dark and foul-smelling surroundings, but the parents were unable to immediately provide a logical reason why their children were restrained in that manner. Deputies located what they believed to be 12 children inside the house, but were shocked to discover that 7 of them were actually adults, ranging in age from 18 to 29. The victims appeared to be malnourished and very dirty. Perris Station Detectives were dispatched to the residence for further investigation.

All 13 victims, ranging from the age of 2 to 29, were transported to the Perris Station and interviewed. Both parents were detained and transported to the station for further investigation. Child Protective Services (CPS) and Adult Protective Services (APS) arrived to assist in the investigation. The victims were provided with food and beverages after they claimed to be starving.

The six children were eventually transported to the Riverside University Hospital System (RUHS) for medical examinations and admitted for treatment. The seven adult children were transported to Corona Regional Medical Center for an examination and admitted for medical treatment.

Both parents were interviewed in this matter and subsequently transported to the Robert Presley Detention Center (RPDC). They were booked for violations of California Penal Code Section 206–Torture and Section 273a(A)–Child Endangerment. Bail was set at $9,000,000.00 each.

-----

This is probably the first time in years the adult and young children have been separated. It must be scary for the young children (though the food probably makes up for that).

Look closely at the wedding pictures. Looks like they have recreated the same event more than twice. Notice the length of moms hair...

Omg, you're so right. Twice with kids, once without. Creepy AF!

I personally think any woman who's only purpose in life is to pops out 13 children has something wrong with them or is being pushed or forced by a man who gets off doing so. It makes me believe it more since they were neglected, the kids are not the reason for it, the power of "im a man and i will make keep having my children If I tell you to" is the reason. IMHO

Anyone else notice on the parents FB, that there’s two different sets of wedding photos? One set from 2011 and one from 2016.
It looks like the same Elvis impersonator in all of the photos though. The mothers hair color (and bridal bouquet), were different in 2011.

I was thinking that may have been a wig at first, but the wedding dress looks different, too. I'll have to check on a bigger screen.

The house was dark and foul smelling. The captives were dirty.
The water and electricity were probably turned off.
