I had the same thought looking at the photos, the main one that makes me think this is the wedding photo in which the young girl is holding her sibling as a mother would their child. I also have a question as to how the grandparents did not know

The grandparents said (in an article I posted up-thread somewhere) they only talked on the phone the last five years.

Wonder why listed as such? Age?

The parents, David Allen Turpin, 57, and Louise Anna Turpin, 49, were arrested and each charged with nine counts of torture and 10 counts of child endangerment. They were ordered held on $9 million bail each. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...california-home-parents-charged-idUSKBN1F42PBr

Police said six of the couple’s children were minors, while the other seven were over 18.

I didn’t see that post, but in vitro is pretty much the only thing that would make sense if the baby is truly hers imo. But given the hefty expense of even one cycle, I can’t help but wonder how they could afford it.

He made $11K a month! Plus had a 401K and was getting subsist from something. I can't remember what. Was in one of the first links on this thread.

You know what? I appreciate what the neighbor is saying but we ALL need to get in other peoples business a little more when things don’t seem right.

Easier said than done. Especially in a situation like this. Until that girl ran down the street calling for help no one really could have understood the true horrors that were occurring. Also, many people who live in the area are undocumented and avoid the police like the plague. I don’t think anyone could imagine even in their wildest dreams this would be happening next door to them.

Gosh, I'm 52 and never had any kids. I'm exhausted just thinking about pushing them out so fast.

No excuse, and not sure I believe it anyway. No one seems to want to take any responsibility for this horrific situation.

now maybe the neighbors couldn’t have known what was going on in that house, but how in the heck did the extended family/grandparents not pick up on all of this? Friends of the couple? I guess we will hear more of the relatives/friends side as this all unravels.

Since their account photos are only cover and profile photos makes me wonder if they have anything else in there that would make family not be concerned

Does this couple and family look familiar to anyone? Something is nagging me that I've seen then before. Maybe it's just their odd appearance that is reminding me of characters as mentioned in some posts above....but IDK...

Since joining WS, I've become nosey as h*ll. It's paid off a few times.

There seems to be entitlement issues.
Number of children, wedding vow renewals, cars, bankruptcies.

Did they attend church?
Or just show up to be blessed by Elvis every year, dressed in white?

Their bankruptcy lawyer, Ivan Trahan, said in a phone interview on Monday night that the parents spoke often about their children. They had 12 at the time of their bankruptcy, Mr. Trahan said, adding that the children never visited his law office.

“They spoke about them highly,” Mr. Trahan said.

He said Ms. Turpin told him that the family loved Disneyland in Southern California and visited often.

“We remember them as a very nice couple,” Mr. Trahan said. “This is shocking.”

I am floored by the credit card debt. They had a double wide repossessed, and had a farm foreclosed upon. He had a good job that paid well, but they filed for bankruptcy twice.
Based on their bankruptcy report from 2011, they lived over $1000 beyond their means, every month. So that's at least $12,000 a year over. But in their accounting for normal expenses, there was no listing of vacations, trips to Disney, etc. So if their baseline was $1,000 over, and their baseline only estimated 3 children, then they were living far, far over. How much does a family of 15 need for food each month? They budgeted $2500 a month.

Praying these children and young adults (far younger than their actual years) find a path to a life outside of this nightmare.

Why would you physically hide all your children?
That many?
What was going on????
Nefariousness. Is that a word?

A very nice couple? Meanwhile, back at home, the kids are starving and chained to their beds....

I'm amazed he was still working at Northrop Drummond. Financial problems, especially bankruptcy, can get you in trouble in terms of your security clearance. Depending on what he was doing as a defense contractor, it is likely he would need secret clearance. In order to get that sort of clearance, the individual is fairly thoroughly vetted, including having visits made to the home.
