Good god those "parents" look demented.
Starving your children ?
Thinking possible cult.
And what's with dressing them the same ? It's cute when you have twins -- when they're babies.... but by the time they start dressing themselves, many will start to show their individuality.
Some of the 'kids' were 29; fgs !!!

As if that sperm and egg donor wanted to control the children -- their own little captive population.
Those poor kids and young people. They're most likely messed up for the rest of their lives.
Will need deprogramming.
:moo:
:stormingmad: ___ :cursing:

Not to mention the potential for arrested development for some/all if starvation was consistent through the years...:(

Pure speculation ahead***
Reading that some of the kids tried to memorize the whole Bible really sets me off. This reminds me of my own family and background. It goes beyond brainwashing. Brainwashing assumes you had regular thinking at one point and then were manipulated into changing your thinking. But if you're born into that type of mindset and taught it from birth you have no other reference to go on. It is everything and it is normal. Them trying to memorize the whole Bible makes me think they were trying desperately to gain parental approval and to please God. Probably they complied with everything the parents did out of the ' honor your father' mentality in which you don't question your father's ( or mother's) motives. You just do as your told because displeasing a parent means displeasing God and that is a fast track to hell. I would even guess that some of these older children are probably terrified that one got out and found help and now they are in a very precarious place with their salvation and future. They are now ' free' in the world but if they've been taught that the world is bad and only their family and their religion is good enough then they may not want to be free in the world. There are countless forums online for survivors of these types of religious teachings because the psychological scarring is deep and permanent. Even without being chained or starved, it can be abusive. You can run away and leave the family and start over in a new place, but you can never get away from the teaching.
Again this is speculative*** but I'd bet money on it being very near the truth...... a lot of money.

In all of the pictures the younger children look much healthier than the older children. And the women are all dressed up like little girls. I wouldn't be surprised if the starvation was enforced to keep them all looking like children.

bbm

I don't understand the "why" yet (will we ever?), but I think you're onto something about the "forever young" flavor here. Geez, this is just nutso. Is this some cult-like tradition/culture that I've never seen before? Anyone seen this kind of thing before??

And, sadly, it makes me wonder what type of grade-level (for lack of a better term) the older "children" have attained. Can any of them drive a car, have a bank account/charge card, have a Soc. Sec. Number, HS diploma, employment?

Adjectives just keep popping in my mind on this one -- odd, bizarre, nuts, pitiful, cruel, insane, way-out, baffling, etc., etc., etc.:gaah:

Has anyone noticed that with the girls, their hair is parted on the side that would look like the mother when she was looking in a mirror. Creepy mother right there. UGH! Usually you see a son having the same hair style as a father, but these are some of the girls. The rest of them have a center part.

This is bizarre.

Trips to Disneyland, smiling children on vacation....all dressed the same. The girls' hair are the same style. No difference. All dressed alike and not just at the wedding ceremony. They seem healthy and happy at one point.

Wow...what happened here?

Look at the eyes. Dad's have a hard look. Mom's? Her's look to be a bit "off". Dad had to also be very intelligent to have had the job that he did (guessing). I think they may have been some of the "quiverfull" believers but took it to a whole other level.

Their kids were reaching ages that they could leave home, and out of their control. That struck fear. In an internet innundated world, that can be very scary for some folks. They may have felt, leaving couldn't happen. Better to lock them in the house than allow them out into that dangerous, evil, world.

Vacations were Disney. Safe. Renewal of vows. Safe. Elvis, the 50s, safe. Even though Elvis had a fall from grace, he publicly spoke of his love of his mother, acknowledged God, and sung Gospel songs. Safe.

Dad, I'm guessing strict, and Mom stayed home and enforced, and followed, Dad's rules.

Only guessing.

I wonder if some were mentally disabled and easier to control, leaving the others “needing” to be chained to keep them inside. The 17 year old was heroic. She must have been terrified. Smart of her to grab a phone or whatever it was. I’m sure they were all taught not to trust the neighbors.

In the wedding vow renewals on the FBPage...

One of the boys had the appearance that he may be blind...

Darker eyes...

No focusing on objects others were focusing on...

Just a thought...

It sounds like the family in question was quiet and did not alarm neighbors. There was an online mention of a neighbor who knocked on the door, offering to mow the lawn. They did not open the door. What could anyone do if the people next door just want to be left alone? Thinking of my cul-de-sac nine families, I really don't know what goes on inside their homes. We wave, visit occasionally in the yards, but in 31 years I have never been inside seven of the nine homes, and we are the friendly ones on the street. The entire cul-de-sac does not interact. I cannot blame the Perris neighbors.

It is much the same here. We speak to our neighbors when outside, but we relly don’t go inside most of their homes. I have been inside only a few, and we do hve many “neighbors” at our corner lot/home. If they are quiet, we barely pay attention. It sounds like most activity (if the children were ever seen outside) happened in the dark hours.

I imagine starving the children would also be considered torture, along with chaining them up in dark, filthy rooms. But there certainly could be more. I’m glad no one died. We don’t know their condition, but if they were taken to the police station first, and then the hospital, I assume they were well enough to be questioned.

But... Do we know if none of them died?

Anyone notice in the wedding video there is no attention paid by either parent towards any of the children. No touching,
no pats on back, no talking, NOTHING. Mom and Dad were ONLY focused on each other. The kids were just there.

Based on unusual physical traits- no rhythm in kids, can't snap fingers, totally uncoordinated, I'd say a lot of them seem physically stunted besides being rail thin. Also the older girls had tiny voices much younger than their ages.
These poor kids are really messed up. Way more than Failure To Thrive, stunted physically and probably mentally.

Looks can be deceiving as the pictures of the family clearly shows. I have read that children that are abused love that parent(s)no matter how badly they have been abused, In my opinion that might be what happened here. I have seen a lot of pictures of the children but their faces are always blotted out. Yes, looks can be deceiving.

Ugh the middle set of girls in the second photo linked with the cars scenery ... their arms are so so thin.

Any idea of when the 17 year old Called 911? Can’t recall if it was mentioned. Wondering how she managed to get away unnoticed. If the parents knew she had gotten away I wonder what they would of tried to hide....

So do the two apparently youngest boys, in that same pic -- their arms are very thin-looking. SMH.

This does look so "cult-ish" to me. Anyone with any ideas. I'm just absolutely baffled, and it's driving me crazy.

Am I the only one?

I have a feeling that may be a factor and the charges are only the tip of the iceberg so far.

The dad reminds me of Shaggy from Scooby Doo.

He reminds me of Harry from Dumb and Dumber.

Since Louise was only 16 when they married maybe she missed out on a marriage "ceremony" and these renewings of their vows was his attempt at making up to her?

Somewhat o/t
One of my first housemates after high school was a girl who knocked on my door because someone told her we were looking for a third to occupy an empty bedroom. She was 17 almost 18 and homeless after being kicked out of a very devout and psychologically abusive home because she cut her hair above her shoulders. I don’t know specifically about any siblings but I assumed there were many from how she talked. She was far beyond what I would have considered sheltered at the time, I was 16 and I wonder now if she had ever had any real contact with anyone besides her family and maybe church. She was very child like and would say things like “Will you be my friend?” to anyone new who came to the house as after having my own kids I know is literally a pre-k to maybe 2nd grade level of relating to others. She did end up getting a job and GED.
