There probably won't be much news now until/if there's a criminal trial.

I seriously doubt there will be a trial. They will more than likely plea bargain as they don't stand a chance at winning in court imo. I'm just really interested in seeing what the plea bargain will offer/represent. I'm always amazed how easy people get for the crimes they committed and how much is pled down into misdemeanors with probation. This is Riverside County with lots of crime! The courts are easy on criminals imo. I bet they'll plea down pretty good for them. After all, nobody died asawk.

I still think the torture charges will be dropped in exchange for guilty pleas to everything else. They don't need convictions for the torture charges. The other charges should be more than enough to keep them in prison for the rest of their lives.

Almost to thread 3... good grief.

Has the 911 call been released? I'd be really interested to hear that.

It doesn't look like they will be releasing the 911 tapes until the trial or until the legal proceedings are over.

Depends on how stubborn they are. If they insist that they were simply doing what they felt was best for their children, they may also insist on getting a chance to be heard in court. Who knows. I agree that they don't stand a chance. The evidence against them so far is said to be "voluminous", and I don't think they've gotten all the details yet from the siblings. They said that would come slowly.

No, the 911 call hasn't been released.
It may be due to the sensitive nature of the call.

I have been watching shows with large families to learn about the dynamics in such fams. (There is a YouTube channel called Nurture where you can find such shows.)

Some families seem to cope well. I believe you can tell quickly from demeanor of the children.
But many families have control issues from the parents. The children are like robots - and I wonder what kind of abuse went on when no cameras were there. Unhappy children - clearly.

Often it is the fathers who want many children, people automatically assume it is the mothers, but that is not the case always - far from it.

There are various reasons for people wanting all those kids, one of them being that they are adopted themselves and try to compensate for the lack of biological family.
Some are religious fanatics. Some are anarchists, wanting to do things THEIR way. Some do it for attention.

After also watching one and a half episode of the Duggar family, where the eldest son was a child molester, I wondered if some of those fathers are gay and are trying to prove to the world that they are real MEN. Especially in those very religious communities.
I don´t think the oldest Duggar boy came out of a box being a child molester, I think he himself was abused as a child.

I think there is something effeminate about David Turpin, thought that from the very first time I saw him.

Just some stray thoughts.

We're thinking similar thoughts here. I too have wondered about the father's sexuality, him trying to prove his manhood in the eyes of others and his belief system. Looks to me like the mom is mentally disturbed and he took full advantage of that too.

Jmo but I don't feel we should conflate homosexuality with abusive behaviour/abuse of minors.

I was not trying to do that, but I am aware of the sensitivity of the subject.

I know there is no specific correlation between homosexuality and child abuse - more than heterosexual child abuse, absolutely not.

I was explaining my train of thought regarding the Duggar family.
I don´t believe they have come clear with everything, the oldest boy is the fall guy.

Maybe more along the lines of a pedophile?

This was my train of thought when the victims were rescued, but by seeing/hearing about the Turpins demeanor during their arrest and in court (a-la why are we even here?) I think they have full intentions of continuing with their show and pleading not guilty/going to trial, forcing the victims to testify against them, possibly to prove how much they still control those poor souls. I would LOVE to be proven wrong.

Attorney Jack Osborne stated that with regard to the older Turpin children, “My impression is a lot of the stuff is new to them.”

The siblings are being fed regularly and enjoy eating lasagna, lentil soup, and fish, according to Osborn, but they don’t like burritos.

They also enjoy country music and nature books.

“Just giving them an opportunity, for lack of a better term, to chill,” Osborn told Mercury News. “They love to draw, they love to create things, they’re very musical. Both listening to it and learning music to play. And they do a lot of crafts. It’s been really wonderful for them.”

The siblings have also been allowed to use iPads, and spend time outdoors playing basketball and soccer, as well as relaxing in the sun.

“It’s been more like being on a cruise ship than at this hospital,” Osborn said.

They don’t use Facebook or read stories about themselves in the news, but they are aware of their parents’ court case, according to their lawyer.

They’ve visited with their six younger siblings through teleconference”.

<snipped>

I wonder if their aversion to burritos has anything to do with their mother's penchant for Taco Bell.

Here's another article,

The kids get to play sports and sunbathe. They have tried lasagna, lentil soup and fish, which they love. Burritos, not so much. They love nature books, country music, listening to music and have CD's and movies to watch. Harry Potter and Star Wars series:

Have also learned the adult siblings want to say thank you to so many people who have maintained an interest in their care and well-being! To show that gratitude, they have asked their attorneys and case-workers to provide progress on their new-found experiences! This is AWESOME! We may be hearing a lot more from the adult siblings.

The adult kids communicate with their minor siblings who have been moved to a new undisclosed facility that can't be named for privacy reasons. Neither can some elements of David and Louise's charges against them. We do know they now have 80+ charges against them.

I love about 40 minutes away from the Erika Murray, House of Squalor in Blackstone, MA that used to exist. My brother lived about 5 minutes away. I was horrified that something like that happened in an area so familiar to me so I followed it from beginning to end. They gave out a lot more information for that case in terms of what actually happened, photos of the inside of the house, what was found, etc... It’s not that we needed to see all of it, but it somehow helped to have all of the facts in terms of the kids and the babies. Why is there so little information coming out with this case? In terms of the charges and what they are for?

Since hearing about the one charge against DT for the 17 year old, we’ve been waiting for more charges of that variety. I would assume the charges we aren’t hearing about now are the ones we’ve been waiting for.
