Judge: Believes Texas evidence is "extraordinarily" relevant for the prelim hearing. Whether not it's viable for trial will be determined in pretrial motions. "Shows a common plan or motive."

Judge believes there is sufficient evidence for all counts presented. Especially, evidence just based on what allegedly happened in California.

Judge: Plethora of evidence for torture charges. Citing the eating habits of children that was presented as evidence. "Children not fed appropriately."

According to this article, teen's testimony may be enough to
convince a jury especially since she already stated she felt so horrible afterwards she wanted to drown herself in the bathroom sink. I'd think that's pretty strong evidence.
Hopefully. To be clear, I absolutely believe DT sexually abused his children and not just one of them.

It's just a preliminary hearing. All charges will likely be found to have sufficient evidence to move forward. The pictures alone are enough in a prelim, IMO. The rest of the stuff (jurisdiction, severity of charges, etc.) will be hashed out in pretrial hearings.

ETA: I was typing while it updated. LOL. I'm glad the charges stand for now.

Judge: "very little socialization allowed" for #Turpin children. "Children not being educated". 3rd grade level judge said.

CLARIFICATION: Judge: Plethora of evidence for "great bodily harm" charges. Citing the eating habits of children that was presented as evidence. "Children not fed appropriately."

Judge: "Great bodily harm" was "a course of action over time". Again citing eating habits and health of #Turpin children. Cited previously lack of dental visits for the children.

Judge: Discussing lewd act charge: "An act of some degree of force in the pulling of clothing down." Alleged attempted shows intent of Mr. Turpin and him allegedly telling daughter not to tell anyone. "Why would he do that occur if nothing happened?"

I wonder how much more evidence and testimony the prosecution has. They weren't going to give too much away here. We still haven't heard anything about those journals, and very little from the majority of the children/adults. I can't imagine it being worse, but if this is just minimal evidence in order for charges to move forward...

Judge: 2 yr old does not appear to have suffered abuse and was properly cared for despite the conditions she was raised in. No sufficient evidence for abuse for her specifically.

Judge throws out one count of child endangerment for the 2 yr old for both David and Louise #Turpin.

I'm not surprised. I figured this would happen and I don't think the prosecution was banking on it.

I don't see a charge of "child endangerment", but one for "child abuse" - would that be the same?

So far the judge has accepted all charges except for one. Child endangerment charge for 2 yr old (youngest #Turpin sibling) was thrown out.

I can's stop wondering what DT coworkers thought about this freak. Superficially, he looks weird. OK, to each their own. What we have heard about the state of the home, did he have an odd aroma emanating from his body? Was he as unkempt as the visual in my head? Did he work strange "shifts"? Didn't we hear the kids were up all night
marching in the house? Strange to me that this guy held down a professional job with all this going on in his home and no one had a clue.

You would think the awful stench of the inside of the home would permeate his clothes and hair.

A few years back, I worked with a dude who smelled putrid. He would walk by me once and sweat actually flung off of him onto me. I don't like to call people gross, but he was disgusting. He played with toys. (Like, he didn't collect them. He made elaborate scenes and played with them on his lunch break.) He had so many very large dogs. I never got a full count, but from talking to him, at least 6. He was SO WEIRD. He had been at the jobs for years. I knew he had to be a hoarder. I saw him on several occasions getting scrap materials from a dumpster we shared with another business. He FREAKED OUT when someone cleaned the fridge. (The person sent and email and warned everyone this was happening.) He didn't realize his expired condiments would be thrown out. He was slamming doors and screaming nonsense. He was fired right there and escorted out. I found out recently that he had a wife and 2 kids the whole time!!!!!!!! He never talked about them, he had no pictures. I wonder how those kids are being raised and I pray for them.

ETA: Several complaints were made about his stench and how he blew his nose in the kitchen all over everything. I don't know why he was not let go earlier.

In my world, a father pulling down the pants of his 15 year old daughter and sitting her on his thigh (don't give a damn if he had his clothes on because that's just a matter of progression/time/grooming victim) and then when wife/mother gets home tells girl child "don't tell" equals sexual abuse.

He knows it was wrong.

I’m here in Riverside for Day 2 of the #turpin prelim. The evidence phase ended yesterday. Today the prosecution and the defense will present their arguments whether this case should go to trial. It begins at 10am.

To briefly recap, yesterday at the #Turpin prelim hearing, the prosecution presented testimony from deputies and investigators with @RSO and @RivCoDA as well as the initial 911 call and the photos of soiled clothing from the children and two of the daughters being chained.

Media has been allowed into the courtroom for Day 2 of the #Turpin prelim hearing. We will hear arguments from both sides today. Scheduled to begin soon.

This I think was the gentlemen that I followed on Twitter. But due to the details of the abuse being so horrific, I can't even read what's he's reporting, so I had to unfollow him. These abuse allegations are very hard to read!

Satch

I wonder why it’s not enough that she lived in a house with all that filth? It definitely wasn’t sanitary there and probably wasn’t safe. Was Louise’s room kept immaculate?
