According to Brian Rokos's live tweets today (he works for the Press-Enterprise), it does appear that some of the Turpin siblings ("children") will make an appearance, and perhaps even speak.

From what the court this morning stated, I think you are right. I questioned you earlier as to this happening, but I think they will. Or at least the court is preparing that they will.

And we're away.

Come to, order the court is now in session!

Some of them are going to speak.

Yes. From Brian Rokos: "Judge Bernard J. Schwartz said the victims requested that they not be photographed or videotaped."

Poor thing is crying.
Jane Doe #4 is attending college.

Cameras in the courtroom are facing the floor. Media just asked if they could photograph the defendants, the judge said yes. They do not want to photograph the victims

That would be sibling #6
That in one year she has gone from first grade to college is quite impressive!

Yes. They're allowed to show the "parents".

I wish I could put my arms around them and give them huge hugs. They're so brave.

The grace these victims are extending is mind boggling.

Now a statement from sibling #3, read by her brother. She's full time in college too.

  • #853
Now the brother is speaking for himself. They didn't say, but I gather it is sibling #2. Not sure on that.

Attorney reading a message from sibling #5. (She is named but I didn't include the name) Her message of the treatment they received isn't nearly as harsh, saying they did have Christmas and birthdays, as well as more food if they wanted.

There are 5 more letters but they won't be read in court, although the D&L will be allowed to read them.

"I'm sorry if I've done anything that has caused them harm."

That is not good enough.

I'm grateful that the children who gave statements seem to have forgiven and are moving forward positively. But I want these monsters to get the max.

My biggest worry is that they might resent #8 for bringing all this on, but I think overall they know they have a better life now, so hopefully that won't happen.

Some want the no contact order to be terminated, some want to keep it.

Some refer to the bad things - being chained and beaten - while some refer to good things - Christmas and birthdays.

Familial abuse situations often cause resentment. Some children are favorites and more protected, some are abused more heavily, some are more privileged. It is very hard to come out of systematic abuse without this internal trauma. My hope and prayer has always been that they don't experience this and cling to each other. I hope they are able to remain private enough, that we never know. These poor children and adults deserve to have healthy relationships with each other. I hope their monster parents didn't ruin that.
