CA - 13 victims, ages 2 to 29, shackled in home by parents, Perris, 15 Jan 2018 #13

Several adult children among the 13 siblings freed in 2018 from virtual imprisonment in their abusive parents’ Southern California home found themselves a year later feeling pressured by the county’s guardian to move to an apartment in disrepair in a crime-ridden area, court documents showed.

The story below my comments names the public guardian. I don't understand why the story OP shared does not. Poor journalism. Every person who has played a role in the continued abuse by action or inaction should be called out!

The disregard shown for the welfare of all the Turpin children is appalling. (I now also wonder if the toddler sibling placed in foster care or adopted is safe and properly cared for!)

How does any social worker, guardian or attorney associated with this case sleep at night?

Riverside County owes these siblings significant monetary reparations - at least $500,000 per sibling or more - in my view.

And the funds raised for them need to be managed in a trust with easier access away from any county oversight.

I wonder if with support, the younger siblings might be better off living with the older ones? I really fear for them since their foster family is accused of such terrible mistreatment. Each has special needs and were placed with unrelated children where meeting their needs would be challenging even for good foster parents.

I'm ready to see federal charges brought against Riverside County for gross malfeasance of duty. Having these children reside in a less urban area where they can experience outdoor recreation and explore individual interests with individual care plans is so critical, IMO.

I feel sick just thinking about all this. Take them out of Riverside County!

These girls are speaking out. That tells me they feel safe and comfortable doing so. They've had some hard work to get thru mentally over the years. Such wonderful progress for them in their personal growth is heartwarming.

Snip:
Jennifer Turpin went on to say that Vanessa Espinoza, the deputy public guardian who was assigned to work with the seven adult Turpin siblings, is being unfairly accused of neglecting her responsibilities.

"Vanessa's name shouldn't have been dragged through the mud like it was. In the beginning, she would treat us to Starbucks, and treat us to so many things," said Turpin in the TikTok video.

"She would go out of her way to make sure we got the trust funds we needed, or fight with our conservator lawyers," Turpin said. "She tried to be nice to us, and she would get in trouble for it."

Jennifer Turpin said her biggest complaints are with the attorneys who represented her. Jack Osborn was the attorney appointed to protect the interests of the seven adult Turpin siblings under the conservatorship.

"[The lawyers] lied to us. They lied to Vanessa," said Jennifer Turpin in the TikTok video. "They were trying to talk us into making a book or movie, and you know they would make a profit if we did."

Olguin & his wife were appointed caretakers of the Turpin siblings after they were rescued from their parents' house of horrors in 2018. Both they & their daughter Lennys now face abuse charges involving the Turpin children. Marcelino is accused of molesting two Turpin sisters just months after the siblings were placed under his & his wife's care. According to charging documents, Marcelino targeted the two girls, one of whom was under 14, for 'sexual touching' on their buttocks & upper thighs. The couple are also accused of abusing another four children, including a five-year-old force fed sleeping pills & made to stand in a corner for hours on end, ringing a bell in her ear & spraying water in her face so she could not fall asleep. One of the male Turpin children was singled out for extra abuse & was repeatedly imprisoned in his bedroom, 'cussed at', 'demeaned' & separated from his sisters. The Olguins also 'intentionally ruined his media devices." They also locked the girl – identified as V#1 – in her room for nine hours a day & failed to change her diaper. They frightened V#1 by telling her spiders were in the bathroom. They held her in that dark, noisy, scary bathroom (which contained a large decorative spider at one point) despite V#1's crying/panicked pleas to be let out. They beat V#1 with sandals, choked her, threw her & knocked her front tooth out by throwing her down several steps. Olguin, his wife & daughter are set to be arraigned next Monday, with Marcelino facing a life sentence if he is found guilty. Marcelino Olguin, Rosa Olguin & Lennys Olguin were arraigned in December, 2021 on charges of physically & psychologically abusing nine children, including five Turpin siblings. All three plead guilty & were released on bail.
4/1/22 Update: Arraignment hearing held. Next felony settlement hearing on 6/6/22 @ 8:30am for all.

FIVE Turpin children were sexually assaulted and tortured. Did I read that right?? OMG… That’s horrific and maddening.

Right? Riverside County employees who created this continuation of abuse need to be charged criminally.

It is unacceptable for any of these children to have been further victimized. I also hold all lawyers involved responsible. They knew better than to trust Riverside County with their care. That county has well-known issues of failure and malfeasance.

Not appointing an independent guardian to oversee and manage their welfare was a mistake. Money is not the issue. Raising funds for their needs is easy with the avenues we have today.

The issue is not treating each individual as a person with unique needs. After surviving their parents, each of them needed extensive support.

All they have received is a "package deal" that seems to want them to disappear into "the system".

It is time for them to leave Riverside County oversight. Because if they don't and no one advocates for each of them as individuals, nothing will change.

I'm also still concerned about the welfare of the youngest daughter & whether it has been investigated.

Can you imagine having no idea of normal love & care then being revictimized? Horrific doesn't begin to describe it.

@Mica - can you help me out on this case?
Riverside County #RIF 2104700

They all should have had a hearing on 6/6/22.

TIA!
There was a request for a continuance on the 6th, which Iguess was granted. See attached screenshots for the 3 defendants. The next court date is for a Felony Settlement Conference on August 11, 2022. The preliminary hearing date is October 17, 2022.

Thank you @realanastasia ! Much appreciated!

I have in my notes that they all plead guilty - is that incorrect? I didn't see anything on the items you posted that said "what" they plead - at least I couldn't find it. In an article I read the other day - it said they all plead not guilty. So I'm confused.
They all plead NOT GUILTY to every charge—I am attaching screenshots!

Just popping up to point out that the report (prepared by attorney Stephen Larson on the failures and shortcomings of Riverside County’s Children's/Adult Services) that was supposed to be issued “in early to mid-June” is nowhere to be seen. His practice’s website has nothing at all about it on its News section. News Archives - Larson LLP

Originally the report was due in March, then pushed back to May, then June, on account of issues obtaining records from the county. Turpin abuse investigation in Riverside County hampered by lack of access to records

IMO this is just another failure of those appointed to advocate for the siblings.

Thanks for checking on the report status. I hope the apparent delay is not an indication of more problems for these victims of so much unnecessary harm.

It would be great if someone would take a new look for any new court filings re: any of the siblings.

Hopefully ABC will do a followup. MSM asking questions may be the only way we learn if there's been another delay.

I wouldn't be surprised if lawsuits to prevent some things being released are holding up the whole report.

Watching for progress with great concern.
