Didn't the abuse escalate in the past 5 years? That and the 2 year old baby makes me wonder..

  • #542
In this case it would be even harder to escape because this is all these children knew. Amazing that 17 year old managed to do it.

Agreed!

The photo of the children in the blue polo shirts was very disturbing to me. When I initially saw it, I noted that two of the female children are clearly developed esp the female on the mother's right!

What year could that photo be - the youngest looks to be an infant?

IMO, there will be other charges added.

Looks like summer 2015? infant looks smaller than in the Elvis video.
LT and DT were very proud of this baby. The number of family photos they posted, publicly, skyrocketed after #13 was born, IMO.

There is something so off about that FB profile pic of LT. Creepy. Jmo.

This photo (Louise Robinette) makes me think of a dating profile. Makes me wonder if she was going to a sperm bank or trying to find a sperm donor, for the next baby. Gets herself in great shape, all primed to conceive again.... ALL totally IMO and all that.

Interesting that the Louise Robinette facebook page is still showing, guess she forgot to tell her attorney about that one.

I can't stop reading about this "family". I imagine the info is going to get much worse before it settles down.

Heartbreaking

I've been lurking here for a few days, and finally decided to jump into the discussion. I just can't get this case out of my head.

First, I'm really impressed by all the info that people on this forum have compiled. It's truly impressive, and thank you.

Hear are some of my thoughts: there are lot of statements released from LE and medical officials, and they might not refer to ALL the children, but just some (I.e, not knowing what a police officer is. That might have been in a interview with ONE kid (perhaps one with more significant intellectual disabilities), but the other kids did know what it was.

I'm wondering if the ones who were more regularly chained up were ones with the most significant cognitive dysfunction. The report mentions a 22 year old was still shackled to furniture when LE arrived, and that would likely be the second male child. This is purely speculation, but based on his hand posture in some of the pictures, as well as the unfocused eyes, I wonder if he suffered from developmental delays even regardless of the abuse (and made worse by it, of course). Developmental delays and intellectual disabilities could have made some of the children more "unmanageable" to LT and DT, and thus they got the worst punishments. Again, just my speculation.

The children were all locked in their bedrooms.
Did they take off the doorknobs and flip them so they locked on the outside??..??

In the Sherin Mathews case, they are already in the process of terminating parental rights, and that just happened in October. I don't expect it to take a year for this to happen in this case, either.

To be fair, Child Protective Services does that in every case - 2 tracts called concurrent planning. One for how the children can work to ameliorate the issues that brought the child(ren) into care and they earn the right to parent their children fulltime again. The other is termination of parental rights if they do not comply with court ordered services to address the parental deficiencies.

I see that many folks find the gap between victims 12 and 13 suspicious and/or disturbing.

But.....perhaps explicable, given her age & stressed uterus; their 12 children; their dire financial circumstances; the energy & everything else that must have gone into avoiding multiple repo's, determined bill collectors; having to move to stay ahead of consequences catching up to them; falling deeper and deeper into depravity with each year, etc, etc.

What I find way more odd is that they were married in 1985, yet the first child we know about was not born until 1988. Given that both were supposedly very religious ( no comment), and her mother's alleged statement that they felt called by God to have many kids, 3 years before giving birth to their first child seems like a very, very long time.

There are too many photos that seem MANY years apart where LT is holding a baby/toddler!!!
Then there is the wedding video.
In the blue shirts the older girls look well developed.

Mom looks a little deflated...
Strange!!!

Something is WAY OFF HERE!

It seems they have had 13 children for the past 5+ years.

The youngest is only 2!
There are some missing children IMO!

The pic with the white tarp as a back drop probably at the home.

I wonder if the matching clothes/shoes were returned after the photos.

So, to DT's elderly parents I think that's the image they have of their son and his brood, and to them they'd probably see something very positive (of course there are positives in the image of well-dressed, well-behaved children!). But it can't be just his elderly parents, other people saw those pictures of skinny children, anorexic-looking children, grown adult women dressed like five-year old girls. Did any relatives who knew the ages of those 'children' ever ask what the adult children were doing with their adult lives? Living at home would not seem unusual in this culture, it would likely seem normal for an unmarried adult child, but what about college or jobs or courting? What about any of the children doing things other than posing for occasional full-family photos?

I don't know what else to say other than I hope these young people continue to get amazing support, both on the physical and emotional levels and that somehow they can figure out, and be supported in achieving, a positive outcome for themselves.

Snipped for space.

Really great post. A lot of interesting points.

The only way I can imagine adults who saw those kids or the videos/photos and didn't think something was wrong is if the parents stated the kids had disabilities of some sort.

However, if that had been the case I think the family members interviewed would've mentioned that.

And someone a couple threads ago posted a link to a photo of the kids (in blue shirts maybe?) which showed breast development in the older girls that later disappeared. Wth? How could relatives not see something was wrong and question?

But I do think they were swayed by the apparent religiosity and "wealth" of the family and it blinded them to signs that something was terribly wrong.

Didn't an older one try to escape long ago? One report said a neighbour offered the girl a ride and she asked how to get a job and a drivers license.
After some head cracking, starving and some choking your ambitions may shrink a bit.

Is there a link? I read a few posts about that but never got to see the link.

Yes, I just went back and watched that segment and EJ says it was by a family member but not her parents. Unlike what she said previously which was: "daddy started "picking on her" sexually"

So now we have:

1.) EJ saying the child who escaped was named after her, which she wasn't.

2.) The parents took several flights to go visit Louise and the children but were turned away each time and went home crying, which they didn't.

3.) Daddy started picking on her sexually after Louise left, which she now claims it wasn't him.

4.) She initially claimed David walked in on her while she was taking a shower and laughed, didn't leave, and it made her uncomfortable. Tonight she said she was taking a shower and Louise picked the lock to the bathroom door with a coat hanger and her and David came in and stayed, even while she got out of the shower.

I'm going to look up the word 'embellish' in the dictionary and see if there's a picture of her next to the definition.

Time to disappear EJ, you've had your 15 minutes of fame and have made a fool out of yourself to boot.

I don't recall EJ saying her dad sexually assaulted her, only that a trusted family member did. Is there a link to that quote? Was it in the self-published book?

I wanted to give EJ the benefit of the doubt, but when I watched an interview of her speaking about the case - I think it was ABC Morning - her crying just seemed so fake. Like she was putting on a show, there were no actual tears. On the other hand, I do think Teresa and Billy seem more genuine in their anger and disgust at what has happened.

What kind of sister would say, "I don't agree with what she did, but..." like it was just some difference of political opinion, not the systematic torture, imprisonment and starvation of her young nieces and nephews. That made me angry.

Don't even get me started on the father of DT who seems to want to think this whole wretched situation is fake news or something. Total denial.

I definitely think it would be in the children's best interests to not be fostered by/given into the care of any of the nearest relatives. They need careful nurturing by experienced and compassionate professionals. People who are better equipped to care for their long term (as well as short term) needs.

I have had the intense feeling from the beginning that these kids need to be kept the hell away from all those family members.

Way too much something going on with all of them.

Happily, I don't think they have a chance of getting to mess with them prior to trial and in order to get custody of the minors they'd probably have to come out here to hearings.

I don't think they should even be able to contact those kids until they've recovered physically and are stable emotionally.

The family makes me angry.

I'm surprised the windows weren't locked, but if they were all shackled to something I guess they thought they didn't have to worry.

I'm surprised any of the children had a bedroon facing the front of the house.

There is a picture floating around for LT, the baby, and the oldest son at Krispy Kreme. She has noticeable bruises on her arm. IF she was also being abused there is a possibility that miscarriages could have occurred during the gap between the last two children.

I agree it seems that she and DT seem to change in the various picture but the baby doesn’t seem to age.

I wonder why the one boy was allowed to go to some classes.

I have wondered this every time I've seen a post about it. My guess and it's totally speculative is that they may have wanted some help with the family finances and let the oldest/ wisest one go to try to learn something he could use to start a career. They , of course, would swipe any earnings he had and probably figured pretty quickly it was too risky to let him be out in the world. Maybe he said some things during the time he went to school that made them realize it would never work out. Again, I'm just guessing. It's curious for sure.

Perhaps we could gather relevant family photos, minors' faces blurred, and post what approximate date we think it was (alongside the FB posting date) so we can get a better idea of if there may be missing kids. I do wonder about the mention of a pregnancy that apparently never produced a baby, and the 8 year gap.

JMO and not wanting to offend anyone but religion can play a large part in these bankruptcies. Waiting for the world to end and running up huge credit card debt is fairly common among cult-type religions.

Interesting!! I hadn't thought about it from that perspective. It's interesting what people will do in the name of religion. We have a small (well if almost 1000 is small) cult group near where I live. They do all kinds of money laundering and tax evasion. They made national headlines recently-- Word of Faith Fellowship in Spindale NC. some crazy 🤬🤬🤬 people.

The blue-shirt photo with the white sheet backdrop reminds me of a church directory photo. I wonder if they belonged to a church for a short time?? Nah, probably not. But the photo reminds me of a church thing.

jmopinion, thinking aloud.

My step father worked as an engineer for Grumman in the 60s (before Northrop) and had a security clearance. Some of the EEs in his group needed clearance, others didn't. I'm not sure what level but there was a background check and our neighbors were questioned. I remember my mother telling me we couldn't make any large purchases because they were checking finances. I was a spoiled teen and I wasn't happy about that. I don't recall a home visit.

I would think background check are far more rigorous now. Most likely DT's position didn't require security clearance because the financial aspect would absolutely preclude him from getting it.

My DH got his clearance in 2005, so it doesn't sound like it's changed much. The financial checkups were the big thing. He was hired straight out of college, so he didn't actually have neighbors of his own, lol, so it's possible they may have questioned his parent's neighbors, and they just never told anyone.

I think you're right about DT.
