Does LT in the second bull riding photo look like drama queen Patsy Ramsey to anyone else?

I tried. Twice. It doesn't seem to be working... :-)

Oh! Now I gotcha! I guess it's people just joining in and reading older posts.

Too bad they will get three meals a day in there...

Too bad there isn't "an eye for an eye" justice in cases such as this.

Most people don't want to know the amount of child abuse and neglect in this world. It's not like the stats are hidden, especially US statistics.

The United States has one of the worst records among industrialized nations – losing on average between four and seven children every day to child abuse and neglect.

"January 2017: The report shows an increase in child abuse referrals from 3.6 million to 4 million. The number of children involved subsequently increased to 7.2 million from 6.6 million. The report also indicates an increase in child deaths from abuse and neglect to 1,670 in 2015, up from 1,580 in 2014.1 Some reports estimate child abuse fatalities at 1,740 or even higher."

7.2 million cases of abuse and neglect - there are 682,000 social workers in US. This number seems more than adequate when you consider there are only 421,000 police officers in the US, a population of 350 million.

  • 80% of child fatalities involve at least one parent.1
  • 74.8% of child fatalities are under the age of 3.1
  • 72.9% of the child abuse victims die from neglect.1
  • 43.9% of the child abuse victims die from physical abuse.1
  • 49.4% of children who die from child abuse are under one year.1
  • Almost 60,000 children are sexually abused"

As a result, the statistics for drug abuse, suicides, criminal activity, and subsequent abuse perpetrated by the victim's on their children are equally as alarming.

In 2016, approx 40 unarmed black and white men were killed by police - (this is not a commentary, but a comparison), and approx 1,500 innocent, helpless children were murdered or neglected to death by someone that was supposed to protect them. Why so much national attention and outrage for one tragedy and not the other?

IMO, it is because there's no money or political gain to be made from abused children (unless, of course, you are an incumbent DA with a high profile case and an election coming up), children can't sue their parents for civil rights violations - their plight has never been a cause endorsed by a US President, ever.

We go on about opiate addiction, overcrowded prisons, crime, shootings, etc., but God forbid we talk about the root cause of the vast majority of these issues - generational bad parenting.
IMO it is partly because we are obsessed with the idea of liberty and freedom in this country. That in itself is not a bad thing. But many of our biggest failures in American society can be traced at least somewhat to the fact that we don't want to infringe on other's rights or privacy.

Hence, we don't pass legislation that might be seen as infringing on the rights of people to homeschool, the rights of people to operate private religious schools and institutions how they see fit, the rights of people to own guns, the rights of people to keep their animals (technically their property) any way they choose, etc. - anything that would require regulation of the individual. This country hates regulations.

This country hates authority to an extent. We will fight tooth and nail against people in authoritative positions abusing power (LE shootings and the metoo movement, for instance), but when it comes to individual rights, we freak out.

People see the problems, want them to be magically fixed, but when anyone suggests that part of the solution is more regulations, they balk. And their answer is nearly always that the problem lies with people being mentally ill (whether it's gun violence, child abuse, animal abuse, etc.)

BUT then when we say, ok, let's do something about the mentally ill having some sort of restrictions, they balk again because they fear those restrictions may affect them somehow.

There is a pervasive fear of loss of liberty or freedom in our society that is so ingrained in us that we would rather continue to see stories like this instead of allowing authorities to regulate some of our activities.

It's insane, IMO, doing the same thing over and over again with the same results.

I've got some legal folks in the family. This is true. These lawyers may not like the Ts, but they must defend them, and do so zealously, within the confines of the law.

I agree. Also wondering if hers signed up to defend her. Lots do because high profile. Some one posted a tweet from him prior to appointment iirc.

All the headlines today declare Louise Turpin smiled as the judge told her and DT they would be barred from seeing or contacting their children...the worst case of deception on this, The weekly Standard - instead of actually showing LT's reaction, overlaid the still of her smiling as the judge reads the RO.

After searching all over for the entire hearing video, I could only find this clip, which shows she is, in fact, not smiling at all:

The American press has been reduced to click-bait, and a disturbing number of their audience eats it up, without question. These parents, as horrible as the allegations are, deserve a fair trial in a courtroom, not in the media.

I want to comment that I myself was raised with atrocious abuse that was 24-7 and of many sorts and yes I went to school each day, but, see, the parent/s tell 'ya 'NEVER TELL WHAT IS GOING ON HERE'

PLUS

the parent/s tell you repeatedly, too, that what in fact happened DIDN'T HAPPEN,

so a kid's brain and thinking gets all mixed up. Parts of me could/can never figure 'what really happened' and 'what didn't', and you're full of a life-death fear if you/I don't do as ordered.

I have long lapses in memory of childhood, and can be 'triggered', PTSD, with sudden recall of this or that horror. I believe is saying the facts and the facts for me included -but were not limited to - things such as:
1. Vomiting from the stress into my dish of oatmeal/porridge (me - around age 3?) and being ordered then to 'eat it', vomiting more, then being ordered to clean it up, and
2. Choked to unconsciousness, surely (me - age 2-3-4???) to make me 'shut up' for crying or whatnot, and then slapped around back to consciousness, and of course, told 'never tell' and 'it didn't happen' sorts of things. The choking was a common one for me, and I have an idea of my age in my recall because I can remember the abuser lifting me and 'throwing' me on the kitchen counter to then waterboard me in the kitchen sink, FOR EG !, and
3. Nighttime sex abuse by 'other parent', and
4. Some experiences of downright torture.

It makes me tired to remember - I'm grateful it's 'over' and I feel so grateful just to be able to do things like sleep in peace now.

With all due respect, I think that people who comment along the lines of 'these kids will all be resilient....' never experienced heavy duty child abuse and just don't understand how it is. It wears a person down, and I know that there's this element of the abuse having been since infancy, for me, that has me 'mixed up' because I lacked adult reasoning abilities at that time and lacked ability to understand what was going on and lacked ability to articulate any of it. Then, add on top of that, all the 'you're mistaken - that didn't happen' kerap and one winds up feeling vulnerable and mixed up.

My personal experience is that I now gravitate to people with whom I feel very, very safe and free and calm.

I know I'm very vulnerable to people who lie - it just overwhelms me with upset to be lied to and 'knowing it's happening' - I just can't wrap my mind around 'things' - I just feel all mixed up and confused. So I now stay away from people who I know are 'dangers' for me. Since Xmas was just weeks ago, I comment that I do NOT believe in telling kids 'Santa is real' - I find that so scary and creepy to do, tho' a part of 'adult me' understands that the kids being told that baloney, I suppose, are experiencing pretty lovely little home lives, not the nonstop 24-7 nightmare/daymare I lived.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Thank you for sharing with us.

No collaboration. The attorneys' job is to zealousy represent his/her own client and it is every man for himself. Each lawyer gets to know what the other will present at trial, in order to prepare a defense. Yes, each attorney gets to try his or her case.
I'm sure they haven't gotten much yet but will be long discovery process. Lots of need for organizational skills and space. DA staff and both Attorneys. I saw this earlier:

"Deputy District Attorney Kevin Beecham said in court that prosecutors technically spread the victims across two protective orders for each suspect because the Turpins had so many children.

“We just simply could not fit all the names on one criminal protective order,” Deputy District Attorney Kevin Beechum said in court."
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2018/01/24/turpin-parents-court-hearing/1062005001/

They will have to prove beyond reasonable doubt each count, for each individual. So multiple Asst DA for this case. Then there is the speedy trial issue. Discovery. We all who have followed know how it goes with few counts, but this is somewhat different. I curious if that's why some changes had NF beside them? Maybe one of our Attorneys can discuss this . Thanks in advance

Hmmmmm...this guy maybe was selected for a "reason"... (again that old cheesy Heart song comes to mind about the woman picking up a stranger so she can get pregnant bc her man is sterile or whatever).

Ewww.

No one dreams up a roadtrip to get banged in a Huntsville hotel.

Defense contractors are in Huntsville. David has always worked for defense contractors.

NASA and space camp are also there. I have actually been to Huntsville. Nothing against the place. I didn't stay in a hotel though.

LOL, not your ultimate fantasy?

Criminal defendants have the right to a speedy trial. In Barker v. Wingo, 407 U.S. 514 (1972), the Supreme Court laid down a four-part case-by-case balancing test for determining whether the defendant's speedy trial right has been violated. The four factors are:

*Length of delay. A delay of a year or more from the date on which the speedy trial right "attaches" (the date of arrest or indictment, whichever first occurs) was termed "presumptively prejudicial," but the Court has never explicitly ruled that any absolute time limit applies.
*Reason for the delay. The prosecution may not excessively delay the trial for its own advantage, but a trial may be delayed to secure the presence of an absent witness or other practical considerations (e.g., change of venue).
*Time and manner in which the defendant has asserted his right. If a defendant agrees to the delay when it works to his own benefit, he cannot later claim that he has been unduly delayed.
*Degree of prejudice to the defendant which the delay has caused.
In Strunk v. United States, 412 U.S. 434 (1973), the Supreme Court ruled that if the reviewing court finds that a defendant's right to a speedy trial was violated, then the indictment must be dismissed and/or the conviction overturned. The Court held that, since the delayed trial is the state action which violates the defendant's rights, no other remedy would be appropriate. Thus, a reversal or dismissal of a criminal case on speedy trial grounds means that no further prosecution for the alleged offense can take place.

I've seen pictures in articles with both THIS look, and the smiling, because both happened. I didn't see any articles that stated that she smiled through the entire thing.

I don't mean this to be rude to you, it's just how I feel. But I don't really care when she smiled. There is no point in time when this crazy a** should be smiling.
