8:30 am when LEO arrived at the house. DA said they sleep all day. I wonder if the already knew daughter gone or if LEO knocking on door woke them up?

Her smiling in court today reminds me of Diane Downs-the woman who killed one of her children and injured the other two, claiming that they were shot by a carjacker on a dark, country road. She also flirted with every man she met willy nilly. (Interesting that the prosecutor wound up adopting two of the kids.)

Didn't she also get pregnant in jail? Maybe getting confused on that. That one got me too.

However, I am unsure she "ran the show". She might have but I wouldn't be surprised if she was manipulated and groomed so much to the point where she couldn't think on her own and solely relied on David Turpin for all decisions/ actions. THIS DOES NOT EXCUSE HER ACTIONS --- at all. She knew what she was doing was wrong imo.

She ran away / "kidnapped" by DT when she was 16 yo. He was more than 10 years older than her. We now know that teens who have been mentally, physically, and/or sexually abused are extremely vulnerable to predators for "grooming".

I bring this grooming aspect up as no way of a justification for LT's evil acts. She knew better by being abused herself. It makes her action that much more despicable. I bring this up to point out that I doubt she was the true orchestrator / "running the show".

I wonder if she thinks she can somehow get out of this by blaming her husband? I do not think that is possible, I think they have specific evidence for specific incidents for each of them. As in a specific day and time a certain crime was committed times however many crimes for both.

To those who are expressing skepticism - I respect that there is a legal requirement to presume that someone is innocent until proven guilty. However, that doesn't mean that those of us not on the jury have to turn off our brains and refuse to make logical conclusions based on evidence presented -- including a logical assessment of what is and isn't credible.

I actually agree with you that there may well be some claims being thrown out that aren't accurate, especially claims coming from assorted neighbors/classmates/relatives. But in order to "reserve judgement" on the fundamental issue of this being a horrific case of abuse, we'd have to presume a massive conspiracy on the part of LE, a medical team, and assorted witnesses, probably including some of the kids. And to what end? There simply isn't any motivation for all of these people to be fabricating evidence wholesale.

So we have:

- LE responding to a 17 year old claiming terrible abuse.
-LE showing up and reportedly finding three children in chains.
-Medical officials reporting that the children were dangerously malnourished and both physically and developmentally well behind age level.
-Continuing reports that the children are confirming and elaborating on the abuse
-Multiple stories from neighbors and classmates that would support the notion that something was very off in the home.

So, I wouldn't say, at this point, that we "know" that all the neighbors stories are true, or even that every specific claim that is being reported as coming from the kids is accurate. But I say again that we do know -- to the extent that we can "know" much of anything we didn't see with our own two eyes -- that there were chained, malnourished, and emotionally stunted children and adults living in that house, because the alternative is to get into conspiracy theory territory.

I get the complete opposite vibe. From what little we have seen I saw hints of her controlling things and him being a subordinate.

For example in one of the Elvis video where she forcefully controlled his attempt at kissing her after Elvis said to kiss the bride.

The whole video I sensed he was along for the ride while she google eyed Elvis and was sucking up the whole experience.

The reports of her spitting as she was being escorted to be arrested.

The reports of her taking her boy to school and waiting outside the classroom

The reports of her pooh poohing the boys attempt to have a "friend" from the class, driving away, and then he was not in class again after that.

Nothing definite to prove much and they BOTH have been equally charged with crimes in this case. Its just I get the sense she may have been more of a control freak with the kids than he was was.

I may be getting that vibe just from appearance too.

Have WSl posters commented on how SURELY the kids' journals are going to all be twisted, because they were all just writing what the parents wanted them to write - I bet the journals will be 'fairy tale fantasies of how happy we are in our Disneyland lives with our WONDERFUL parents !'.

What is WSI? I doubt we get to read the kids journals. Can't comment on them we hear what's in them. But so far I am confused how if they were so not in touch with outside world and so forth.... how would they know how to write detailed journals of being tortured? Seems like its trying to be argued both ways.

Jmho could be the hundreds of journals could be homeschooling work.

Several flights? Why would her parents go to see them after the first time going there and not being told where to go, let alone several times? Wouldn't you think after the first time they would have found out where to go before booking another flight? What she's saying isn't making a whole lot of sense.

You know, I think that it can be too hard for some of us to be able to accept that this level of abuse actually occurs in families. It is too devastating. It's upsetting. So our brains naturally want to find loopholes or evidence that it must not, cannot be true. It can't be that bad.

The DA and the sheriffs and the medical staff have been clear about the level of abuse. "Depraved." "Muscle wasting." "Torture."

No staged photos or yearly outings or supervised community college classes or one Krispy kreme visits or anything that any neighbor or family member or defense leaker has said changes that.

The medical staff are unbiased. They have zero reasons to embellish anything.

Copied from the previous thread because this is a good article. My spouse was parentified and it is very destructive. It's more than happily changing a little sibling's diapers. It's horrible.

I had never heard the term “parentified” before. I can attest that it exists though from personal experience. Somehow I’m still being blamed by my 80 year old mentally ill mother for her perception of the shortcomings of my 51 year old sister. I’m 54. Even with just three years age difference between us a lot of little sisters day to day care once I could drive was left to me and even with just three years age difference even decades later the narrative is the same. The abuse these children suffered will follow them forever in some form. It makes me so angry to see LT’s face.

Any estimates for how long it would take for a case like this to go to trial? I’m new to following cases so was surprised by the three years rule against trying to contact children.... I assumed they’d be convicted well before then.
