Looks like either a target, or a hurting, hungry stomach. Not sure which.

Maybe this has been discussed, but is that drawing meant to represent a bulls eye?

LT did have a whole lot of Target bags. My gut feeling is hungry stomach or pregnancy explained, but Mom's affinity for Target made me wonder. But I guess that would strike me as odd behavior...a huge, negative cartoon depiction of your abuser on the wall in what appears to be permanent marker?

iPads? I don’t think giving them internet access whilst they are so prominent in the media I’d a great idea!

I agree. However, it is possible to disable the internet on the device and make sure any nearby wi-fi is password protected, in case they turn the internet capability back on.

The iPads struck me, too. Here we were collectively marvelling at the simplicity implied by the play doh and Legos and primary colored crayons. But the learning and communication that can be facilitated through a carefully controlled device like that really can't be beat, imo.

The drawing also reminds me of pregnancy.

I love the iPad idea too! Learning, reading, games!

I only read what the Hannah book is about. Not much description but what is said worries me. It seems like it is pointing to accept abuse?

I'm glad you picked up on that. That rubbed me the wrong way too. Also, how appropriate is it to send Christian dolls to 5 adult females (in addition to the 5 minors) who have been infantilized and abused, likely in the name of Jesus (at least at one point)? It seems like something that might trigger PTSD. Though, of course, the women may be so cognitively scarred that they want dolls. I don't know. It still gave me a bad feeling.

Jillian, thank you for all you do for these children. You're amazing.

I agree though. A friend of our family is a foster mother, has been or years. She has also also adopted. We often find her distraught that after all the kids go through, at the ends of their birth parents, and all she does to be their mother, they say "when I'm an adult, I'm going to go and find my Mom and live with her... etc etc etc.

They don't mean it to hurt, that's just where their loyalties lie majority of the time.

I am a little behind but I agree with these posts.

I recently took in my nephew and niece due to mom's addiction and legal troubles. I thought my nephew had hate and turmoil when it came to his mom, he always seems so angry when we talk about her. I have found that he longs for her even after all she has done. He wants her love even though she has let him down so much. The anger isn't directed at her, I found that it is directed at himself. He tries to "be better" so she will "love" him. Actually, reading these threads helped me see that.

I hope the survivors don't feel this way but I agree that it is possible.

I've looked through many pictures of the past homes they lived in. A couple of them show (towards the bottom of the wall to the floor), that the drywall top layer has been peeled back. At first glance I thought it was water damage until I looked closer. Could the children that were chained up been picking (possibly eating : ( ), the paper? This is horrifying to think, but I just so happened to talking to a friend of mine who mentioned when her toddler was little if the playpen was near a wall with wallpaper, she would pick at it/peel it.
I honestly cannot believe the filth that they lived in and left behind! I've seen many homes that have gone through foreclosure, and had fixtures/utilities ripped out, damage done from a large family, animals, but NOTHING like this.

Just jumping off your post!

“Lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14” is legalese for child molestation. It’s willfully abusing a child for sexual arousal/satisfaction.

Child molestation is a despicable sex crime. Let’s call it what it is. Calling it anything else could be construed as minimizing what the victims have endured, imo.

The 17-year-old who called police rescued all her siblings from unimaginable torture. God bless her, and all her siblings. ❤️

I am absolutely not minimizing it. It is a horrible thing for a child to endure and I think child molestors should face the death penalty. JMO

However, in every single thread there is speculation that, because of this charge, this daughter is the mother of the two-year-old. What if she sees this? It was probably very difficult for her to tell the police. I hate that this happened.

I am ONLY saying that, based on the charge, I don't believe she had her father's baby and Thank God for that. What she endured was bad enough.

I had a better reply and I lost it. I'm sorry.

I understood your point with no problem and totally agree.

Is that a light or smoke detector?

On my phone it looked like a light but now on my laptop it's definitely a smoke detector.

According to an article I read on the internet, circles represent peace and happiness.

Circles
Circles represent a need to find unity and peace. They can indicate someone who is struggling to draw everything together and make sense of it. It can also indicate a strong intuitive sense that things are coming together to form a whole, whether that refers to relationships, or life in general. Since they're made with round movements, circles indicate a more passive feeling than angles. They're associated with feeling sociable, talkative and friendly, with a desire to be flexible and loving.

Perhaps this drawing was made during a happier time for the Turpins, before the abuse got so horrible and sadistic.

On the other hand, if the circles are a target, then that could be bad...

So what do you doodle?
Doodling and sex?
Dr Burns observes that "a preoccupation with sexuality usually shows up in figures whose genital areas are emphasized
and heavily shaded or in the repeated use of classic sexual symbols such as snakes, candles, or darts striking a target".

:welcome:
Great post!
At 24,
I was 5 ft 9 in and 95#
( & Pregnant)
HOWEVER, I was married, never abused and from a VERY skinny family with a boring normal upbringing.
(* and at that weight as hard as I tried to gain weight when pregnant, my little girl was born at 25 1/2 weeks and weighed 1# 13oz. She is 26 now totally healthy!!)

Wow, 5'9" & 95 lbs while preg! You must have a very small frame! But honestly we shouldn't even talk, bc really, heights/weights cannot & should not be compared. Sooo many other things factor in .. your god-given frame size; muscle mass %; muscle vs fat vs water levels. Everyone is so different. Sorry to play devil's advocate, but we don't truly know if these kids are "emaciated" bc it's not like we've seen them unclothed. They COULD be very small-framed & therefore not bony at all. (Please take this w/ a grain of salt or 10 -- I'm just offering potential counter-arg.)

Me personally, at 5'9" while at any weight under 130 lbs, I look bony as hell, bc of my large frame -- I'm all collarbones & ribs, and I look weird. I also have connective tissue probs so my skin is flabby/floppy/gross regardless of actual fat % @ any given time. Other people can get away with far higher or lower weights & look truly fabulous or at least very normal. There's just so much variation in the human form, we cannot generalize.

I read somewhere that LT often dismissed comments about her kids' sizes by saying "Well, DT is so tall/lean/lanky, so they just got his body type." She's very lucky she's had that to fall back on. What gets me is not the kids' alleged low weights or lack of development, but the fact that THEY'RE ALL DAMN NEAR THE SAME SIZE. They fall along a pretty wide range of ages, but all the older girls have essentially the same stats, & all the younger girls have essentially the same stats. See Elvis pics. It's striking. Throw in the fact that their hair is all identical, & you really can't tell these girls apart other than specific facial characteristics. :-/

To be fair, the parents aren't huge, nor do they look like gluttons, but this so reminds me of when Lauren Kavanaugh was rescued, and LE made comments that her mother Barbara Atkinson "was clearly not missing many meals" (lol). She was very overweight (and still is to this day while in prison) while her daughter was literally dangling on the edge of death, 25 lbs @ 8 yrs old. DT looks average/healthy, if out of shape. Point being they can't say "oh we're just a naturally small skinny family." Bull.

I'm not an expert or authority so take this w/ as many grains of salt as you'd like -- but before landing here on WS, I spent many hours perusing comments on other websites, on news articles & on FB, & it was determined all 13 kids are LT's. People suspect the older daughters may have given birth to the youngest kids (at least esp the 2-yr-old) but that's been debunked by now. I don't have a link on hand, unfortunately.

I know it's so tempting to assume the worst in the realm of incest/sexual abuse type stuff but thankfully that doesn't appear to be the case...obviously pending further discovery.

I seriously doubt any of the victims were having periods and could conceive. Although, it does happen in 3rd world countries.
