This may have already been asked, but after reading through the threads on both Matthews I'm wondering if the snowpack ever totally melts?

For the most part yes. Some of the higher elevation passes will have some snow through out the year though.

As a former Marine, I did cold weather survival training in Bridgeport in 2005. Definitely a humbling experience for a guy who thought he knew mountains. It's a very challenging area. Rest easy Lt' Kraft and Semper Fi.
