I can't believe this guy was let out, and why isn't it a bigger story?
Oh, yeah, he has relatives on the force.

@BeSweets , generally, if there is a dollar amount -- the accused signed a contract with the court (and probably a bail bonding company) that they will either show up or forfeit the amount, $2 million dollars in this case.

Guessing, Gutierrez' parents' have contracted with a bail bond agency pledging assets, likely their home, to cover the bond. 10% down as security, iirc.

Does that make sense?

No personal experience, either!

Yes, 10% is usually the standard unless of course the signature bond scenario that’s in Wisconsin. I guess the phrasing just threw me off. I read it as — he was charged, got bond, but his case wasn’t brought to prosecution by the sheriff’s authorities yet. I’d just keep him in there so he can’t drive anywhere, but that’s just me and my opinion.

"I have no doubt that an in-depth investigation will confirm that Nicholas is a hard-working young man who holds no animosity towards law enforcement, and this was an absolutely tragic accident," Alexandra Kazarian, Gutierrez's attorney, said in a statement to KABC-TV.

Snip

One of the police recruits struck by the wrong-way driver has experienced medical "setbacks" and is now considered gravely injured, sheriff’s office officials said late Sunday. Four other recruits remain in critical condition and all others have been released, Fox 11 reported.
