CA - 3 year old Audrey left in parking lot in Los Angeles

Why is this all about the father?

Who left this baby with valet? is that an LA thing? I mean I don't leave my purse in the car for Valet, I am not about to leave my kid.

It is not an LA thing. There is obviously no excuse for this. I do think it's interesting Dad is getting all the heat. Who is the genius that dropped her off, described as a female? If its her mother or guardian that should be no more. Who leaves a 3 year old and just assumes someone is going to pick her up?

Since this is local it was on the news last night and they said that, although the girl had seen her father, she is still in the custody of CPS. So, hopefully this will be investigated thoroughly.

I hate that some people don't seem to put as much thought into having children as I do to adopting a pet. I sure as hell wouldn't leave one of my pets unattended anywhere and "assume" someone else would be along to pick them up.

Idiots.

This reminds me of a situation happening recently with an elderly patient of mine. The caregiver that was supposed to be taking care of him got mad b/c the relief caregiver was a couple of minutes late so she just left the NON-MOBILE,NON-VERBAL elderly patient alone to "teach her a lesson"!!! WTH?? Even worse when this is a small child. What are people thinking?????

There are so many scenarios going around in my mind...

-could it have been a kidnapping... And the kidnapper had a change of heart?

-could the mom be in danger and dropped Audrey off so as to keep her out of harm's way?

- If it is abandonment... Why wouldn't the child be left at a "safe drop off" place? (sorry... I don't remember the specific term...) like a hospital... Or...???.. Instead of at a shopping mall?

- Was the child left strapped into the car seat... Or was the car seat separate? (Sounds separate to me... But I am not sure...)

- If not strapped into the car seat (though still, very dangerous to leave a child of that age unattended most anywhere)... Wouldn't there be a very likely chance the girl could wander into the driveways/parking lots/streets of a big shopping mall and be hit by a vehicle?

:waitasec:

That's the first thing that hit my mind, when I read Z's post. Maybe thought they(someone) were closing in?

I just saw her picture on local LA news--did not hear anything about deaths in family. But they did say she was still in custody of the county until they sorted out what happened. Which is good news because I cannot understand how a woman would drop off a 3 yr old without seeing the other adult with her own eyes. Custody issues or not, you don't leave a baby alone on a curb.

Do we know yet who the woman was that dropped off Audrey at the Grove?

I'm quite sure that's NOT the case, thankfully.

I'm nearly certain that that story is actually THIS story.

As over the weekend a girl about Audrey's age was in a crash that killed 3 of her relatives, leaving her only with a grandma who had also been in the crash, and a cousin or something.

They had been en route to Mexico from up in LA in order to fly to another location in Mexico for a funeral. They couldn't get tickets from anywhere in SoCal that would get them to the funeral quickly enough so they were driving across the border to fly out from there.

That little girl had been alone at one hospital (Children's of SD) while her grandma and the other young man were at another.

I suspect the parallel of the little girl alone and finding family, and 3 being killed, and the fact that that crash story also involved a grandparent in San Diego got interwoven with this one involving Audrey.

(Plus, see the next post with the actual update)

No, but here's an update of what IS now out there info wise:

Her father told police that he had a misunderstanding with another family member on coordinating the dropoff and pickup of his daughter. He said he was planning to meet his family so they could all take a holiday photo together in front of the plaza's Christmas tree. When he couldn't find them, he assumed they had left, including Audrey, he said. He apparently had no idea she had gone missing.

It doesn't specify who, but "other family members"

Relatives told KTLA that the girl's parents are separated and their other family members normally take care of Audrey. Her mother lives in a another state and didn't know about her daughter's disappearance until she saw the news reports, a family member said.

“We seen my sister’s daughter on TV, on the news, and this is all news to us,” Audrey's aunt, who did not want to be identified, told KTLA. “‘There’s a report Audrey has been abandoned at the Grove.’ We heard from that and got all crazy.”

So she's still not back with her dad per this (though I'm unclear why - unless he's truly alone allowed brief visits for a reason and it can't be long term) though they were reunited.

For whatever reason, he doesn't have her until CPS figures out who left her there.

But they have said dad is NOT facing any charges. (so in light of that I'm curious why she's not with him)

While the father was briefly reunited with his daughter, the Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the incident and is determining which family member to hand Audrey off to. The father isn't facing any criminal charges

Sorry folks - I have just realised this was posted on the wrong thread. No such reports in Audrey's case, thankfully.
