I know the homeless are invisible but I would think there would be some kind of emergency service at the shelters to help someone pregnant and homeless.

It's odd, maybe she didn't know it was time to get some medical attention til it was too late I don't believe she would have been refused at clinic or ER in that condition. Anyone know ?

Unbelievable. UGH, I am glad someone called, however they should have called earlier, or asked her if she needed help. So sad.

i read a link that said the babies were discovered because someone called regarding a woman in distress and she was fond nearby on a sidewalk. idk whether she left them, was trying to get help or what.

Some people refuse help, unfortunately.

Also, I once had a next-door neighbor with twins. They were here 3rd & 4th children.

The second was born in the hospital elevator. Yes, the second. The first twin was born in the parking lot.

She remarked "they came so much faster than the other two!"

So, this lady may have thought she had enough time?

It's illegal to refuse medical care to someone in active labor or with a medical emergency regardless of their ability to pay. It's called the EMTALA act and their are huges fines and penalties for any violation. I'm sure she just chose not to go to a hospital for her own reasons, drugs possibly.

She would not have been refused. If someone would have called her an ambulance, she would have been taken to an emergency room or OB triage unit.

There are emergency social services available in my county (CA) for expectant mothers. Sadly, there are always some who will refuse services. Some because of their lifestyle (drugs or alcohol) or mental illness.

She would not be refused in California. But she might have feared she would be.
