Leticia McCormack, a 49-year-old ordained elder at the Rock Church, is charged with murder, three counts of torture and three counts of willful child cruelty in connection with the death of her daughter, Arabella McCormack, and the abuse of her other children, according to officials.

Authorities located Arabella inside the home and suspected child abuse. They transported the girl to the hospital, where her health ultimately declined over time, leading to her death.

During their investigation, police contacted the 11-year-old's adoptive father, Brian McCormack, who committed suicide in officers' presence, according to a press release.

McCormack, who is described as an Asian female, is being held in the San Diego County Jail without bond.

At least she is in custody already. And some unfortunate attorney is going to have to work with her and defend her in court. And the little girl's adoptive father committed suicide in officers' presence. What a sad and brutal-sounding mess.
Damm.

How horrible is this. Just awful!
It both amazes and sickens me how often we see this type of thing with kids in foster care/adopted homes etc. Our society is failing children at so many levels.

I understand what you are saying. Perhaps the system needs an overhaul when working with children. Not only was I sickened by this I also wanted to point out that there are such people out there. I mean these people are respected as the elders of a church, its horrible. One wouldn't suspect something like this from them but it happened. And along with their daughter making it even more horrific. IMO its society's responsibility to weed these horrific people out so they can't harm. But I find that people close thier minds and think that this sort of thing is a one off. Unfortunately its not.

Sadly I can't say I'm at all surprised about the church aspect. There is a great deal of evil hidden behind the "virtue" of religion. Evil can hide anywhere. Just my opinion.

Nov. 14, 2022 - according to this article:

McCormack and her parents, Adella and Stanley Tom, are accused of abusing and torturing McCormack’s three adopted daughters. McCormack and her father are also accused of murdering Aarabella.

Wondering if that is true - all I have seen in other articles only McCormack has been charged with the murder.

Anyone?

well - now I found this article.

Nov. 14, 2022
SAN DIEGO (AP) — The mother and grandfather of an 11-year-old California girl who was allegedly tortured and starved for years have been arrested and charged with murder, while her grandmother faces abuse charges.

Leticia McCormack, 49, and her parents pleaded not guilty to the charges Wednesday in Superior Court of California in the San Diego suburb of El Cajon.
[.....]
The couple became foster parents to the girls in 2017, before adopting them two years later, according to the San Diego Union Tribune, whose reporter spoke to the girls’ biological mother outside the courthouse Wednesday. She said the girls were being homeschooled.

Leticia McCormack and her parents were arrested Nov. 7 and remain held without bail. The victim’s siblings have been placed in foster care, according to the sheriff’s department.
[.....]
Torriana Florey, the biological mother of the girls, told The San Diego Union Tribune that she lost custody of her three daughters to Child Protective Services because of a “domestic violence dispute” with their father. Florey said she suffers from bipolar disorder.

She told the newspaper her daughter’s name is spelled Aarabella not Arabella as authorities have written it.

“I couldn’t be the mom the courts wanted me to be, because I was learning,” Florey said. “Aarabella was my first daughter.”

I will contact a Mod - and see if I can get Aarabella's name up on the title, instead of the mother's...

and again, adoptive caregivers torture and murder a child. When does it end?

In addition to child abuse and torture, McCormack and Stanley Tom are accused of murder in the girl’s death. McCormack and her parents also face allegations they abused and tortured the girl’s two sisters, ages 6 and 7, Steffen said.

The lieutenant said the three girls were adopted. Aarabella’s sisters now are living with a foster family.

Huffstutler said Aarabella was pulled out of school after the girls were adopted, and that all three girls were homeschooled.
Mother, grandparents arrested in death of 11-year-old girl in Spring Valley

Police said Arabella had two sisters living with her, one is six years old and the other is seven. They are both now with foster families.

Family and friends told NBC San Diego that all three girls moved in with Leticia in 2017 and their adoptions were finalized "a couple years later."

The three suspects allegedly abused and tortured McCormack’s three daughters for about five and a half years, leading up to Arabella’s death in late August, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported, citing a criminal complaint.

Outside the courtroom Wednesday, the girls’ biological mom Torriana Florey told the Union-Tribune that Child Protective Services took her daughters because of a “domestic violence dispute” with their dad.

Florey also said she suffered from bipolar disorder, adding that “I couldn’t be the mom the courts wanted me to be, because I was learning. Arabella was my first daughter,” whom she described as a beautiful, bubbly and loving child.

BBM is not meant to bash homeschooling. Just to highlight that in cases of child abuse this is true to form for the perpetrators. Separate the child from the outside world and as many mandated reporters/witnesses/avenues of help as possible.

That is really horrible. There are adoptive parents who are abusive. Some even kill. There are also woman who kill someone else's children.

Adoptive Parents Who Committed Crimes
Jim Jones
Jerry Sandusky
Lori Drew
Nicole Finn
Carri and Larry Williams
Sarah and Jennifer Hart

They all abused children. Jones committed mass suicide and murder in 1978. Sandusky abused many children. Drew drove Megan Meier to suicide. Finn abused and killed Natalie Finn. Williams abused and killed Hana WIlliams. The Harts killed all their adopted children by driving off a cliff.
